Review: Artemis Fowl is a young boy who is determined to retrieve the family riches his father squandered during an operation to sell Cola products to Russia. He discovered the People through his many hours on the internet, and has aquired a copy of their lawbook. He begins to wage a war with these people, with help only from his trust butler, Butler, and Butler's sister, Juliet.

Rating: Summary: A charming fantasy for young and old alike Review: 'Artemis Fowl' shares much in common with Rowling's Harry Potter books. They both take place in a universe much like our own, but with a dash of magic thrown in.Both books are aimed at a younger audience but have hints of darkness in them. In the Harry Potter books, Harry and the gang are on the lookout for evil sorcerors and magical creatures. In '...Fowl' the main character is a deceptive and evil plotter. Hardly a role model. But '..Fowl' is an enjoyable book. I suspect that, like the Harry Potter books, it will coerce youngsters who are non-readers into reading. It has the requisite amounts of fantastic creatures and excitement that should keep readers up well past their bedtimes. However, my praise isn't wholehearted. One of the major plot points of the book is the kidnap of a female police officer. Another significant scene involves flatulence. There's a lot of violence in the book. No characters are killed, but there are several scenes with hitting. Most intriguingly, and in one of my favorite lines, there's a scene where a character says 'Moriarty, Holmes, they both like the same with the flesh scorched off their skulls'. Now I like this kind of humor, but I question whether it's appropriate in a book aimed at children. 'Artemis Fowl' is a charming engaging fantasy that will delight readers and is a relatively quick read (particularly in comparison to the huge Harry Potter tomes). I look forward to the alluded-to sequels.
Rating: Summary: Who Cares? Review: OK I'm an adult, so I accept that I'm not the target audience for this book but I can't imagine anyone being entertained by this load of tosh! The premise is fine - a junior version of Moriarty and his servants engaged in a nefarious plan to defraud the fairy nation of a crock of gold by holding one of their kind to ransom. Problem is the author has created a set of totally unengaging characters who you will struggle to find interesting or have any sympathy with. This means that by the halfway mark, you really don't care what happens. The author has spent a good deal of time thinking through the action and the technology (this is the only part of the book that vaguely works and is why I've given it the 1 star)and I'm sure this will thrill the right type of young audience but older readers will find little in the way of characterisation or plot to keep their attention. Unfunny at best, dull as dishwater at worst, this Artemis is truly more foul than fowl!
Rating: Summary: Blockbuster Action Adventure Review: Enormously entertaining action adventure with all the high tech bells and whistles. This wonderfully inventive tale takes the reader on a pod ride in a thermal flare with a cast of characters that is very hip and very hilarious. While the fantasy is first rate, lying beneath the brilliant banter and battle is the simple story of what children can get up to when left unsupervised. Read and enjoy this book, you won't soon forget it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Different than Harry Potter and sny other Fantacy ! Review: I Loved this book. I read one of the Harry Potter books and hated it so I can sewe if there are any anti-Harry Potter fans why they might not want to read this book but It is about fairies but you really start to forget that they are faries. When you think of fairies you think oh magic wands and flying wings. I thought that too and I hated fantacy books. But the story is based on an action adventure movie so it is easy to forget about the fairiesand if you changed the fairy to a person instead of Holly(a charector) you could change all of the fairies into real people. If you liked Harry Potter and you think it will be like this you are wrong and I should caution you it really isn't like harry potter even though the only one that I read was the 1'st one so i really don't have much to judge it on. But I think that if you didn't like fantacy books you should deffinitl;y give this one a try because I don't even think it belongs in the fantacy section because it is'nt really like any fantacy book I have ever heard of.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl not for impressionable children. Review: This attempt to ride the coat tales of Harry Potter, misses the mark. Artemis does not teach good versus evil. Artemis comes from a family with a criminal background and thinks this is the right way to do business. I also thought the description of violence was to graphic for children to read. When our children read, we should NOT show them the way to get around what is right. I enjoyed the book but will not let my grandchildren read it. MR Colfer would be better off using his great imagination to write adult fantasy.
Rating: Summary: the best book ever! Review: this book, in my opinion, is ten times better than the harry potter series. eoin colfer has done an excellent job capturing the readers attention by using descriptive adjectives and making the story as interesting as possible. i give this book 5 stars for its overall superity (however you spell it!)so i say go get this awesome book and enjoy every last page/word of it! you'll love it!
Rating: Summary: A Human Macavity Review: Artemis Fowl is a twelve year old genius. He is the latest in a long line of Fowls who have always managed to stay one step above the law, and has determined to return billionaire status to the family name, and restore the Fowl fortune with fairy gold, ransomed from the faries themselves. Readers of Harry Potter will find this slightly more down to earth, but no less enjoyable. Personally, I thought Artemis's criminal character a welcome relief from the rather heroic style of Harry Potter. Artemis Fowl is a must-read.
