Rating: Summary: A Harry Potter Type Book! Review: This is a great book, ecspeacilly for Harry Potter fans. It's filled with humor, wisecracks, action, and suspense. Plus the author left room for what could be a great sequal. Just like the first!
Rating: Summary: Very boring and confusing................................... Review: I thought it was horrible! It bored me to death, espeically when its with that police fairy person, I thought Artemis was pretty cool himself, but its just so boring. (...) Dont buy it, its a waste of money, time, and much much more. It's not good at all, confusing as ever too!
Rating: Summary: Holly's Great Review: In this book I found very interesting parts from everybody but Holly. Holly was a lot like one of the creatures in Harry Potter.A fairy. But everyone else was loud and obnoxious or a criminal. Foaly and Mulch were also O.K.
Rating: Summary: When Harry Potter won't cut it! Review: My son has read all of the Potter tales to date, and like most children his age,(10)he enjoyed the magic and tone of the books. In the lull between arrival of the next Potter tale, I gave my son Artemis Fowl to read. I based my choice at the time on the similarity in subject. A charming young hero engaging in adventure and magic with quirky, fanciful characters. The fact that the hero, Artemis was actually a modern day Moriarity and not above thievery and deception seemed an interesting twist. As my son's first taste of an "anti-hero" Artemis Fowl was a wonderful success. The author was neither patronizing to his young readers nor lacking in humor that was not only appropriate but also fresh. This is a superb addition to any youngsters burgeoning library, and though it may not topple Mr. Potter from his throne of popularity, it will certainly be enjoyed with the same enthusiasm. Perfect for strong readers of ages 8 and up. (yes, that can mean adults)
Rating: Summary: Good Lord, that's a bad book! Review: I read this book, only out of respect to my aunt's money. It's badly written, with a lot of Hollywood gimmicks and the world that the author tried to create is quite confusing, I am not sure it can be understood by a child. The carachters are not original, the whole book is a Charles Bronson film in print for kids. Don't buy it.
Rating: Summary: ! ! ! ! ! GREAT ! ! ! ! ! Review: This is a really good book! It is about a 12 year old genius named Artemis Fowl. This book has fairies and all other kinds of magical creatures. But, it's not gentle and boring, it has lots of weapons and fighting. I LOVE IT!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book. Marvelous Plot. Let's get a sequel. Review: This book was so great that I finished it in just 4 hours. I couldn't put it down. Cast aside Harry Potter and pick up the new generation. Young Artemis is a great main character for the book and Butler makes a great bodyguard. You are probably wondering what the heck is he talking about. If you were to read the book, you too would be cast into the wonders of Fowl Manor and into the power hungry plot of the Fowl's, a criminal family, head of criminals ranging from pickpockets to armed robbers, to steal the colossal treasure of the fairies. Great Book.
Rating: Summary: But the cover is nice... Review: The hardcover version of the book has wonderful embossing and holographic sparkles. I read the entire book, but did it only to finish. I enjoy children's and young adult books, but this book won't delight any young readers. I can only describe the style of this book as unhumorous film noire. It's dark, it's violent, and has no redemming qualities, other than the nice cover.
Rating: Summary: Perfection? No. But pretty close. Review: I believe there are two kinds of people in this world. The ones that root for the good guys, and the ones that root for the bad guys. Kids aren't safe from this classification. There's always the kid in the back of the theatre wishing Bambi would just drop dead. Come on, admit it. You cheered for Darth Vader in Star Wars. Who didn't? Eoin Colfer (what an original name!) made a book for every child in every last row in every class of the entire world. That book is Artemis Fowl. Artemis Fowl is a story about a boy who is an amazing genius. He kidnaps Holly Short so he'll get money from the fairy people, who have been forced to live underground years ago, since the human population has grown beyond control. Artemis Fowl's biggest strength is the characters. Three-dimensional people (or centaurs or dwarves or fairies... you get my point) with flaws and qualities that makes them look real. Artemis isn't completely evil. But he's not ocmpletely good either. The same can be said about every character in the book. They are REAL, yet still simple enough so that any child will understand it. The technology the fairies use is fantastic, and it is perfectly described. He doesn't go too far, leaving only enough details so the reader's imagination will have something to work with. Some great gadgets and magic. The only flaw I can come up with is that the book seems too short. With the millions of things that could've happened in the book's plot, Colfer seems to have chosen far too few. It gives the reader the impression that this book is only a prelude of things that REALLY matter, that will happen in the sequels. I sure hope the sequels come soon. I can't wait!
Rating: Summary: A Thouroughly Enjoyable Modern Fantasy Review: Artemis Fowl is the story of a 12-year-old criminal mastermind who plots to regain his lost family fortune by kidnapping a fairy to steal their pot of gold. It has page-turning suspense, delicious wit, and a nice sprinkling of humor in the mix. Although I don't reccomend it for younger kids, I think the teen to young adult age group would thouroughly enjoy this book. It's not your average fairy tale! Also, don't be fooled into thinking this book is just for kids -- it has a very...different...approach on the fairies!
