Summary: Quite a Disappointment
Review: I had heard a lot about Artemis Fowl, and i must say the rave reviews that i read were not justified. The book was as stupid as the back cover made it sound.
I will say that it was somewhat original, but the plot lacked any depth. The characters were extremely flat and boring.
I ususally enjoy fantasy, but Artemis Fowl barely kept my attention.

Summary: Great, but not the greatest
Review: I found this book in a store and fascinated by its glittering cover I opened it. It's mainly about a young criminal mastermind named Artemis Fowl, who tries to gain gold by kidnapping a fairy, who turns out to be Holly Short, a female captain.
During the read, I laughed several times - plenty of jokes in there to keep people happy. There's a bit of fighting, not to mention developed technology. The words are easy and simple. I'd say it's a great book, but not the greatest. The book doesn't go very deep; but it's certainly entertaining. However, I recommend this book only to 4~6 graders or older people who feel younger. To others, I believe, it would be interesting but not exactly satisfactory.

Summary: I loved it!
Review: Okay, so I really do adore this book, and I am 15. A little too old for something like this, you might think, but it reads like a very good, smart action movie. So maybe sometimes the charecters are a little overblown, and the humor a bit too
juvenile, but I don't care! I read these books whenevever I
need to escape for a little while.
And as to all the comparasons to Harry Potter, it is a completely different type of book.

Summary: Artemis Fowl
Review: Artemis Fowl

This book is sort of a mix between the Harry potter series and Lord of the rings series. For a second let's just forget about them both, because this book is not comparable with any other fantasy books. The language is easy (meant for age 9-12) and Eoin Colfer, the author, did a great job in ending the story.
It is about a young masterminded criminal named Artemis Fowl. He goes on an adventure with his Butler from stealing the Book of the Fairies in the Underworld (a fantasy world exist underground). However, an officer fairy goes by the name of Captain Holly Short, and she becomes a problem to Artemis Fowl. After his capture of the captain, it brings a disaster to the Fowl Mansion. I won't spoil you any more details, so just go get the book and start reading it. There are a few more of the Artemis Fowl series and I was planning to read them soon, you should too.

Summary: A good book, but for a small age group
Review: This book is good but is for a small age group from about 9 to 13. This book is about a artemis a character that can neither be called bad nor good (but mainly bad mwhahaha) who takes a faerie hostage for money and stuff. It sounds kind of wierd but its a a good book for the age group its written for. Its not a book were you can tell what happens next the evil person in a way neither wins nor loses. All in all its a good book you need to read if your in the age groups whod like it. If your to young itll be hard to read and if your to old it may be to "kiddish"

Summary: BEWARE.... narrow target audience
Review: I can say from experience that this is certainly a book that is raved about. When this book first came out, I was recommended this book by my best friend at the time that seemed to take interest in the same books as me. The book seemed to be well written enough, but there was just something about it that didn't appeal to me.
After finishing it disappointed, I put it back on my shelf for a few years. But the bookstores, the reviews, and the kids continued to rave about it. Thinking I may have missed a trick, I give it another try. But after completing it again, I am very curious to know what the deal is.

I ask around. Finding that there are as many people disappointed with the book (like myself) as there are people who are raving mad for it.
And finally I come to a conclusion. This book has a very narrow target audience.

Artemis Fowl has characters, setting and plot that would appeal to 9 and 10 year olds, but the writing language is complex enough to satisfy a 13 year olds requirements. For example, read this book to a year 4 class, and the jokes about farting trolls go right over their little heads. When read to a yr 5 class, some won't get it, but most will crack up with laughter. Read it to yr 6 class however, half will giggle and half with roll their eyes at the sheer thought of how juvenile the whole complex paragraph ended up being!!

Concluding this, you may want to consider how interested you are going to be in the plot line before reading this book by reading the blurb and some editorial and customer reviews, because it is not like Harry Potter (which just about everyone on the planet has fallen -or is going to fall- in love with)

Note to parents: you may want to read this yourself before giving to children, to check whether or not their reading level is up to this hard read, and to consider whether or not they will be interested in the book's theme.

Summary: Not Harry Potter but not bad
Review: I'll agree with Mr. Andrew Platt in that a child will love it but a child at heart will not quite love it as much. Then again, I read Silence of the Lambs when I was Artemis's age, so I still might have been a tad disappointed reading "Artemis Fowl" at age 12...then again, the dark elements would have been right up my alley. The book is at a lower reading level than the Harry Potter books but does not "dumb down" subject matter for kids. This is like Law & Order in fairie land, so the seriousness of the police work adds a nice twist I wasn't expecting. Artemis is like Lucius Malfoy as a kid (sorry, another Harry reference) but the reader can feel some sympathy for him and detect a little more depth to his character when you see what his parents are like.

The best way to enjoy this book is to NOT hold it up to Harry Potter expectations. Hard for the fans to do, but I still think this book is a creative breath of fresh air in a society that has to make everything sugar-coated and safe and bland for children...and I know you kids are a lot more thoughtful than you're given credit. Just ask Artemis.

Summary: The Start of Something Big
Review: Artemis Fowl is a character for the new century. He is not a hero. Indeed, he is not likeable by any stretch. Young Master Fowl is nasty, mean, arrogant and greedy, but somehow sympathetic and intriguing. We want to know more. This introductory novel reads well, it moves quickly and keeps interest up. Eoin Colfer spins the tale masterfully, spicing it with sprinkles of history, mythology and modern technology. A 12-year old plotting to steal Leprechaun gold? A centaur who is the IT guy for The People? Colfer introduces colorful, creative characters that somehow meld seamlessly. It is a combination that would be difficult for anyone, let alone a new author. Colfer offers the promise of many enjoyable tales to come. Artemis Fowl is obviously written for young adults, but will be popular with many ages. I can't wait to read the next one!

Summary: I think I'm in love
Review: I'm absolutely terrified of making a synopsis of any kind here, because of my knack for making books sound a lot worse than they are. But I can, however, say that this book is most definitely one of my favourites. I'm am just THRILLED with the way Artemis started out as an evil little boy... and STAYED like that for once. He didn't "see the error in his ways" and he didn't suddenly become all nice and mushy and become a nice person. No, he was evil, and he stayed evil, and that is just another thing that makes this book so darn cool and original.

And then the plot was just awesome. This is one of those one-of-a-kind books in which you just cannot guess what will happen next. It does not follow any basic plotlines seen in a lot of books, it has one completely interestig and unique to itself. I also found the characters to be very well-developed and intriguing, and very believable.

All in all, Artemis Fowl is an incredible book, and I definitely recommend it to everyone and of every age. It is an awesome book.

Summary: A Great Book to Read
Review: Artemis Fowl is an interesting book. It is about a criminal mastermind. He discovers the world of the faeries and kidnaps one of them, but he is unaware that these faeries are dangerious.
The book, in general, is well organized, and interesting. It has many twists and turns. However, the language is awkward and hard to understand part of the time.
