Summary: Artemis Fowl!
Review: The story is a lot of fun and in many ways as moving as Kingdoms and Elves of the Reaches by Robert Stanek. At 12, Artemis Fowl is a criminal mastermind! He's going to kidnap a leprecuan by gosh!

Summary: Garbage begets garbage, so does magic beget magic?
Review: With R.L. Stine as king of the children's literary world, people wanted to be just as famous, and created [junky] books (pardon my french) full of cheap thrills and poor taste. In short, a large chunk of the childrens' market were short novels with no flavor, no zap.

Luckily, Harry Potter came along. HP was a great book, as everyone else would know. More books came out, making it similar to Harry. Among the best of these 'imitations' was Artemis Fowl. Most likely because it stands independent on its two elfish feet. Although many people compare this to HP, this is no ripoff. Colfer read Potter AFTER Fowl, but those greedy publishers marketed it as "The Next Harry Potter" because it dealt with an adolescent boy and the supernatural, like Harry.

But I'm rambling here. Artemis Fowl is a great book, with original and unique characters. Unlike the Harry Potter series, in which most people would side along with Harry than Voldemort, AF is told through the POV of two main sides. The Fairies and Artemis Fowl. Both are neither evil... so you could root for either side. Myself? I preferred Cpt Short, because she was more of a hero and didnt cause trouble when it wasnt needed.

Summary: Cross between fairy tale and police drama
Review: This book reads like a shoot-em-up police drama. Even though the story purports to be about faeries, there is almost none of the dreamy, misty, nostalgic feeling that usually accompanies tales about these creatures. Instead, there is suspense, macho dialog, Mission Impossible type sneakiness, hostage taking, hand-to-hand combat, personal competitiveness, bureaucratic infighting, feminist politics, science fiction, a mother who is crazy, and a neglected genius child.

The violence was not too disturbing in the text, though I think it would be challenging to make a movie out of it that would be suitable for children. I read it to my 11 year old, but not to my 8 year old. I sort of felt the level of violence might be too stimulating for the younger one.

The book is fun and flows smoothly. The plot hangs together and is generally credible, despite its fantastic premises. The characters are reasonably well-developed, though they mostly fall within certain stereotypical types for police or spy dramas. The creative part is that you do not expect to find such characters in a fairy tale.

This novel did not totally bliss me out, but was still well worth reading.

Summary: Artemis Fowl
Review: This book was really, really fun. It starts off with Artemis Fowl, who was a 12 year old genius, thinking of a way to get lots of money without working. His parents were rich but were losing money. Artemis Fowl thought about getting fairy gold. He put out an advertisement saying that anybody that knows about a fairy will get paid for telling him about it. A man named Xuan Nyugen gives him information about a drunk woman that heals in the sewers. He goes to the Ho Chi Minh City. He met Nyugen and they go to meet this "drunk woman with healing powers." Than they meet her and she is a fairy. Artemis gives her wine with a poison that is lethal to fairies. He asks her for the fairy bible and she gives it to him. Than he goes and decodes it and finds out that fairies need to complete rituals to reenergize their powers. He also finds out that the fairies also need to do the ritual at certain places. A fairy cop named Holly Short was the only female fairy in an organization called L.E.P. Recon. She was running low on her powers. Than when she was ordered to do the ritual, Artemis Fowl captured her. Than there are many attempts to rescue Short by the L.E.P. Recon.
I really recommend this book to kids aged from 11-14. It is very exciting and the way Artemis Fowl thinks and acts is brilliant. He is such a smart character. He is always "two steps ahead." You will become astonished at his knowledge. Artemis Fowl, the book, will blow you away and I really enjoyed this book. Instead of "Just Do It" from Nike, "Just Read It" from me.

Summary: Artemis Fowl - Criminal or Genius?
Review: There has been much controversy whether Artemis Fowl is in the same league as Harry Potter. There are all sorts of opinions, ranging from the no-read to the read-all. In my opinion, here Eoin Colfer has an extremely catchy, imaginative book, with characters who, not only have a deep differentiating streak, but also have been well-developed. Diregarding all the 'popularity' issues, Artemis Fowl is a book to read for children and adults eight and over. It is a entertaining and capturing fantasy novel, which blends magic and technology together, and ranks up with Harry Potter.

Summary: Extremily high-tech
Review: This book is good for all of you if you like action, adventure, mystery, technology and bit of magick mixed together with choped vegetables. The bad part about this book is that it sends the redears into oblivion during certain passages when it says something that people won't understand without more info. If you enjoyed Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and mystery books (like Hardy Boys) you will like this!

Summary: You da best
Review: This is a book about a young boy named Artemis Fowl who is after the fairyfolks gold. I wish people wouldn't compare it with Harry Potter And if that was such a succes why isn't Artemis Fowl a film because personally I think it was better than HP and there are many people who agree.
It is an ingenious, courageous and thrilling book. As soon as you start reading it you won't be able to put it down.
When the second book Artemis Fowl and the arctic incident comes out I will be one of the first people to buy it.
Eoin Colfer was never my favourite author but after reading this book I got for my birthday he now is.
I have read all of his books and I want to read more after reading one of his books.

Summary: Artemis Fowl
Review: "How does one describe Artemis Fowl? Various psychiatrists have tried and failed. The main problem is Artemis's own intelligence. He bamboozles every test thrown at him. He has puzzled the greatest medical minds, and has sent many of them gibbering to their own hospitals," Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. At the dawn of the 21st Century in Ho Chi Minh City Artemis Fowl a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind had devised a plan to restore his family's fortune. A plan that could topple civilizations and plunge the planet into a cross-species war. This novel takes place in the contemporary "real" world. However, the protagonist, Artemis is aware of a magic world beneath the surface of the earth.
Artemis, who's father was killed in a plane crash was never found. His mother, who became depressed after the death of her husband spends all her time in her bed on the second floor of Artemis's sorrowful mansion talking to herself or sleeping. Artemis on the other hand is trying to find a way to gain more money. He is incredibly bright but doesn't attend school. He has a bodyguard by the name of Butler who is armed to the teeth with weapons and trained in the highest arts of hand-to-hand combat. Artemis discovers a magic realm under the surface of the earth where he kidnaps a sprite named Holly who just so happens to be an enforcer in the fairy world, and holds her for ransom. The police of the fairy world try to get the sprite back, however, at every turn Artemis outsmarts them and holds onto his hostage. In the end, there is a massive standoff between the police forces of the sprites and Artemis. The sprites decide to use their ultimate weapon against Artemis Fowl and the result is certainly surprising.
I am usually a non fiction reader, but Eoin Colfer's fantasy of two races colliding kept my light on past Twelve O-clock for most of the nights I read this suspenseful novel. If I were to harshly criticize this book, the worst part would be when it is over. Colfer leaves you wondering if maybe there is another world full of fairies, gnomes, and leprechauns, or when is the sequel coming out. I would suggest this book to fantasy lovers or Harry Potter fanatics. Although they are both fantasies, they are completely different styles of writing.

Summary: In-Your-Face Fairies
Review: Artemis Fowl is an action packed adventure Artemis Fowl is a twelve-year-old criminal genius who plans to rebuild his family's fortune by capturing a fairy and ransoming it for a ton of gold. After obtaining a copy of the Fairy's Book which contain the instructions to their magic and 'life rules' he captures Captain Holly Short one of the elite members of the LEPrecon unit. This begins the unearthly conflict between Artemis, his imposing manservant and bodyguard Butler, and the underground fairy world under the guidance of Holly's senior officer, Commander Root.
This book is not a typical fairy-tale, though it is based on typical fairy-tail creatures. Curiously the fairies have limited their dependance on magic and increased their technological prowess, so instead of wands and fairy dust, they have guns, radios, and numerous other high tech gadgets. The struggle for Captain Short and the fairy gold is packed with twists and turns as the fairies are constantly thwarted by Artemis, his foreknowledge of fairy protocol, and his ability to use much of their technology against them.
This book is full of innovative ideas, especially technology wise, and varying kinds of combat, ensuring the reader doesn't become board with the same old thing, but it lacks any redeeming message. This book is not the clear cut, black and white, good vs. evil story that is generally a trademark with most fantasy and science fiction books today. The bad guys, Artemis and Butler, are not completely evil and often the reader finds him or herself cheering them on and hoping they win a certain scenario. The good guys, the fairies, are fun and realistic, but not endearing enough for the reader to completely side with them.
This is a great book for children over ten years of age. Artemis Fowl is a great escapist read, full of action, in-your-face characters, and an engrossing plot. It is a refreshing, creative take on the science fiction/fantasy genera and redefines many of the classic fairytale creatures. The book was a fun story, simply pure action adventure.
