Rating: Summary: A great Holiday Read. Review: A nine hour flight can seem very boring. But not however if you have Artemis Fowl. This was one of the most interesting and exciting books I have read since Harry Potter! Unlike Harry Potter this story includes some very well included, touches of humour which makes this story one not to miss. If you've read Harry Potter and were impressed, you'll be amazed by this!
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review: Artemis Fowl is a great book by Eoin Colfer about a 12 year-old genious named Artemis, who is plotting to become rich. This criminal mastermind obtains the fairies' secret book , called "The Book" which reveals the secrets of the fairies. Butler, his bodyguard, Artemis's mom, and Butler's sister are his only company.Artemis's mom is insanebecause his father abandoned them and left them poor. Although they lived in a old mansion, they had no money.Holly Short, a LEP or fairy officer, tries to stop Artemis and his plans.... but can she?
Rating: Summary: Not my taste. Review: There are reasons why books by authors like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Madeleine L'Engle have remained in print for decades as classics in fantastic fiction. There are reasons why authors like J.K. Rowling and Phillip Pullman will join their ranks: because they have charm and ingenuity.Artemis Fowl has neither of these things. This is not to say that it can't be entertaining... for a twelve year old boy. I just don't see it as anything more than an action movie script crammed into 250 pages with very nice packaging. If that's what you're looking for, go for it. But personally, I found the humor unappealing and not very witty. (Think gross-out humor). There are too many characters whose viewpoints don't matter and whose actions don't advance the meager storyline. Sometimes it seemed as though the author just made things happen--not because they were logical or believable in any way--but because it was convenient (Holly saving Butler, for example). The dialogue is messy and filled with cliches. As for Artemis Fowl, the title character, he is an irritating brat masquerading as a criminal mastermind with delusions of grandeur. Yes, there is violence--in fact, the violence and weaponry is the only part of novel which apparently warrants a description of more than just a cursory sentence--but I wouldn't call it offensive unless you are easily offended. Personally, I found this very hard to finish. It's an annoying, obviously rushed book that should never have been anything more than a rough draft for the upcoming movie. The only reason I gave it two stars was because I could maybe see it being entertaining for a twelve-year old boy who dreams of taking over the world, being a criminal mastermind, outsmarting everything and everyone on the planet. It just wasn't good enough for me. Pass it by, and try a newer, better author like Meghan Whalen Turner or Lemony Snicket.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Seeing as how I have an affinity for unlikable characters, this book did it for me. Artemis is delightfully evil, but in a salvagable way. I feel he has a heart under all that malice, no matter how much the author would like to veer us off that track of thinking. The book is very action-packed; a definite page-turner. The only negative comment I'd have to make is on its length. I'm never really satisfied with shorter books. If it were longer, I probably would have enjoyed it more. As for the comparisons to Harry Potter, I feel they are hardly justified. Two completely different worlds, two completely different styles of writing. Colfer has a very unique style, and his writing is humorous. Quite unlike Harry Potter, which can be a good thing...for awhile.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: This was a excellent book. Every one who gave this book a one star, saying that peaple who liked harry potter and the lord of the rings would hate this book is wrong. I love both of those series and this book. I liked this book becase the bad guy won. It gets so tiresome in other books and movies because you always know in the end everthing is going to turn out okay. This book is differint. I'm a 11 year old and loved the book the whole way through.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This book was really entertaining and funny. The storyline was seamless and very original. The characters are very deep (particularly Artemis). This should become a classic!
Rating: Summary: A Spectacular book Review: I thought this was a very good book. it had a good plot and it was a real page turner. i also really enjoyed the charecters, and the fact that the main character was the bad guy.
Rating: Summary: Really Good Fantasy Review: I read this book because it was said to be a good choice for people who love Harry Potter. I'm one of those people. The book actually isn't similar, except for the fact that they are both fantasy. Artemis is a 12 year old criminal mastermind, and a genius who is determined to get his family's billionaire status back. His plan is to exploit fairies, who live underground, and get their gold. Good plan? He is the first human to translate their special book, and with the help of this he begins plotting. I don't want to give away too much of the story, so all I will tell you is that this book is full of technology, adventure, and magic. I recommend this Artemis Fowl for girls and boys ages 10-14, and to anyone who loves fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Patrol =^^= Review: This is a great book about a 12 year old criminal mastermind who bamboozles a race thats been around longer than the fowls bieng criminals. Great book for young adults and a great buy!
Rating: Summary: The Best Book In The World! Review: Artemis Fowl, the 12-year mastermind, son of Artemis Fowl Sr., is out to get his family's fortune back, the fortune that his clumsy father lost. How does he plan to get his fortune back? Well just kidnap a fairy from the LEP, the fairy police force, bring the LEP officer back to his mansion, and ask the LEP commando to give him their ransom money, the gold the fairies save in case one of their officers gets kidnaped. And what happens to Artemis when the fairies blue-wash his mansion, or in other words disintegrate all living things, read this great book to find out. The book takes place on Fowl Manor, where Artemis lives with his man servant and his mother. There a lawn around the house and a wall around that. Artemis Fowl, the main character, is a clever person, always one step ahead of his enemy. He is very cunning and someone I would not like to meet. Artemis Fowl is a very good book that should be on the best-seller list.
