Rating: Summary: such a kewl book Review: i loved this book!!! What I don't understand why every fantasy book is compared to Harry Potter. These books are so different its not even funn. I cant even think of 1 similarity. no wait, the main charecters both have black hair, i think, Aretemis Fowl tells two sides of the story: from the good side and from the bad. Artemis Fowl is the criminal master-mind and the bad guy. You find yourself relating to both sides, and not knowing who to root for. Its SOOOOOO kewl!!! READ IT!!
Rating: Summary: Artimas Fowl Review: Artimas Fowal was the best book I read during the fourth grade. Eleven year old Artimas Fowal is a genius, a mastermind, sadly he is also a criminal. When his father dies in a fatal boat crash, they start losing money. To regain his father's fortune Artimas tries to find a fairy. Finally he does. He gets the book and downloads copies onto the computers. The book is the fairies torah. He kidnaps a fairy and asks for a randsome. Is Artimas smart ennough to defeat the fairies with futuristic weapons, to get their gold, or will the fairies overpower Atimas and kill him? An extrordanary fiction book that that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. With unexpecting twists and turns, I give this book five stars. The reason I picked this book is because of its dazzaling discription, and because of its twists and turns even till the end. Truly Atimas Fowal is a great book.
Rating: Summary: Unique ideas and an enjoyable read Review: Pitting a 12-year-old against a population of fairies (including a lovable, witty, keenly intelligent centaur, and some dwarfs, goblins, trolls, and the like) with the unlikely twist of the 12-year-old being the "bad guy" seemed to me to be a very unique idea. I was wary at first about reading the book, not because of the Harry Potter hype, but because I didn't know how I would like a book with a 12-year-old villain, who was also the star, in it. What the author successfully managed to do for me is make the villain (Artemis) have just enough "good guy" feelings and show enough of his struggles with the "bad guy feelings" to make me hope for him to do something good. It was maddening, actually, the way the author made you at some turns angry and disgusted at Artemis, and then a split second later have you feel compassion for him. There were many times that I wanted to step through the pages and either shake (or smack) Artemis, or hug him. I have to admit I felt some keen disappointment at some of Artemis's decisions - and Butler's, too (Butler is Artemis's bodyguard and friend, and after something very kind and brave has been done for him, he decides to continue to follow procedure, instead of his heart - even though the reader sees his struggle, it drove me crazy to see how he fights caring for someone and chooses to just do his job like a robot without feelings instead.) It's easy for the reader to feel friendly to the fairies and the heroes and heroine in the story - they are very personable, humorous, genuine. Overall, this was an enjoyable read, with plenty of action, humor, and original characters.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review: A twelve-year old brilliant criminal mastermind plans to kidnap a fairy to restore his family fortune. No matter how smart Artemis is, he does not know what he's taken on when he does kidnap a fairy...he does not know how dangerous these fairies are. They have unimaginable weapons and technology that only one can dream of...and of course, they have magic. Their weapons can be used any time...and can wipe out every sigle living cell at any area. Artemis's plan is dangerous and very risky...if news about the fairies gets out to the world...it could be the beginning of a cross-breed war...which would be chaos for us all. This book has a very interesting plot and story in it. Not to mention, the characters itself are highly interesting. Artemis, a twelve-year old genious does things his way and never gives up. No matter what situation at present is, Artemis will always come out on top. I like the way he talks also, his vocabulary use has a certain effect on people...his life-time partner, Butler is his personal bodyguard. With Artemis's authority and just Butler's appearance (his nickname in the book is Mountain Man)...it can scare the daylights out of people. Which is, no doubt, cool.
Rating: Summary: Master Fowl has just about caught up with Mister Potter! Review: Wow!! This was a real page-turner for me. Every spare moment that I don't have a book to fill with ends up being filled with Master Fowl and Captain Short's adventure! I have read it several times in only the 1 month that I have had it. My classmate reccomended it to me, and I don't regret listening to her at all! It's amazing how the author, Eoin Colfer, has managed to think up this novel, and I can't wait to get the sequel! The only thing that it needs is about a million sequels--I think I'd read them all in around a year, considering how exciting Eoin Colfer's books are!!!
Rating: Summary: Book review Review: I thought that the book was really slow especially in the beginning. Also don't read it if you do not like fairies because it is mostly about them. I did like the end the most because there was more action in it, and it was ongoing with action. I liked how she stayed with the same people in the story so then you knew them better and understood it...
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: This was an excellent book! It keeps you enjoyed and makes you want to read more. The best part is the decoded message on the bottom!!!! After you figure it out, you want to go back and read the story again ( if you translate it, you'll know what I mean!!)
Rating: Summary: Something magically different Review: It would be a crime to compare Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter. Artemis Fowl has a different feel to it. The People are not protected by magic but guns; they have to rejuvinate their powers; and they have far more superior technology to speak of. Pick Artemis Fowl if you want a fun light read.
Rating: Summary: The Anti-Potter! Review: If your kids liked Harry Potter but long for something with more bite, try Artemis Fowl. He's a wonderful anti-hero in a world of good boys and girls. The vocabulary demands a great deal of hesitant readers, who would be better off with the JK Rowling Potter series or perhaps McCaffery's Dragonsong novels. But for ambitious young folk (or bored old folk looking for a quick laugh) Artemis is a refreshing and funny change from the ordinary.
Rating: Summary: Good Premise, Horrible Plot Review: For all you Harry Potter lovers out there...I'm not sure if you'll like this. The whole reason that I bought it was because I read in that newspaper how excellent it was. In the review then, it also gave a summary of the plot which sounded very intriguing. I'll quote: "Artimes Fowl is a criminal mastermind who is a millionaire. He hopes to rob the fairies of their gold." Are these words true, you may ask. Yes, I suppose they're not LYING, but I must say, VERY misleading. That is the premise of the story, but the plot was all wrong, in my opinion. I'll give you a few reasons why... The story starts out great. It begins where Artimes is getting a magical potion from a kind of fairy, a sprite. Enough to keep me entertained. Then came the part from the fairies point of view. I really didn't like how the author portrayed the fairies as being on the "bad" side while they were the ones being robbed of gold. That wasn't what bothered me, though. You see, what was wrong about the whole "fairy story" was how the fairies, instead of being the mysterious, esscense of nature kind loved by children in classic novels, these lived in a major technology world. New, expert gadgets, atomic bombs, nucleur war...Strange to me for something like a fairy... The main reason for not enjoying this? Action sequences. I realized while reading this that every two minutes in the story, something was mentioned about a bomb blowing up a ship, the fairies getting gadgets out for war, etc. It was tiresome to read after a while. I read later that the reason of this was because originally ARTIMES FOWL was a screenplay, turned into a book. That was enough of a reason on top of it all to not read the sequel. Harry Potter fans, ARTIMES FOWL offers no magic, imagination, or anything about it to attract it besides it's false publicity. Not worth the money.
