Rating: Summary: One of the best books of the year!!! Review: This is one of the best books I've ever read. I read it over and over until my mother bought me the second book, which I'm still reading. From what I've read so far, it seems like it maybe better than the first. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a very good imagination and enjoys books that make them laugh, and makes them think hard at the same time.
Rating: Summary: What A Great Book! Review: I have just finished reading Artemis Fowl and I did not want it to end!!! As the story switches back from "Mud People" to fairies it is just so cool!!! It is so hard to describe it's so good! If your waiting for the next Harry Potter book read this. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter's got Nothng on This Review: 12 year old criminal genius Artemis Fowl and his monstrous manservant Butler are trying to extort gold from the Lower Elements(or fairies). Foaly the Centaur techie, and Commander Root of the LEPrecon Unit are trying to rescue Captain Holly Short from Fowl. The troll-related hall battle was amazing! This book gives you a second view on fairies, like instead of all sorts of flowers and butterflies there are steel cameras and rocket-powered pods that shoot the fairies to the surface, and instead of magic wands, they have nuclear powered blaster pistols like in Star Wars. This is a great book considering it is only Colfer's 2nd book.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Hilarious! Review: I really liked this book because of how funny it was. But it seemed like there were only a few segments where I was really into it. But during these parts, I was glued to the pages, and I think that they, combined with the outstanding humor, make this book worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Artemis Fowl the main character in this book is a 12 year old rich genius guarded by his bodyguard Butler. Artemis is not the hero of this story. That role belongs to Captain Holly Short the 1st female officer of the LEPrecon fairy police. Hold on, these fairies aren't Tinkerbell they are hi tech, gun weilding, magic blastin' mother- Anyway Artemis learns something that no other human knows fairies are real. Like any other anti-hero Artemis is after gold. So he and Butler kidnapp a Fairy and guess who that fairy is?Holly. Artemis is in over his head. LEPrecon is not planning negotiations they are planning Artemis' funeral arrangements. The advantages turn from one side to another and things really get out of hand. This book is a great mix of Sci-Fi and Fantasy and is extremely enjoyable to anyone over 10. This story proves that good doesn't always win. I can't wait to see what happens in Artic Incident. I heard it has more to do with Mulch Diggums. My fav line:He would be back with some other money making scheme. And when arrives he would find Holly Short waiting for him. Waiting with a big gun and a smile.
Rating: Summary: A good read - but suitable for children? Review: Many people have names this novel the other Harry. Yes, as Harry's evil cousin, maybe. As an adult, I enjoyed the book, but I'm not sure I would want my children to read this. The premise and characters are interesting, yes, but some of the themes in the book like: greed is a good thing, deceiving is OK as long as its a means to an end and money makes the world go around - I found a little disturbing. Aren't today's children already too fixated on possessions and money? I'm not sure if I'm over reacting, but especially compared to Harry Potter, these themes stick out so obviously in this book. I prefer Harry.
Rating: Summary: You've Got to Read This- Even if you hate reading Review: .... Artemis Fowl is a twelve-year-old genius that is trying to regain his father's status in the world. His father was robbing a shipping boat and sent the wrong message in Morse code causing his father's humiliation and death. Artemis Fowl is also trying to regain his father's gold, so he tries to kidnap a fairy and hold her ransom for two tons of gold. From the first paragraph of this book you are hooked. Eoin Colfer's writing engages you into the book to a point where you think you are there experiencing what is happening, whether it is chewing dirt, digging a tunnel, or being in a shootout with a 7' tall man. This book is set in current time and uses a lot of current technology. Artemis is a genius and an expert with technology. This is one of the best novels I have read in quite a while and will probably stay that way. I would recommend this book for someone who likes to be reading at the edge of your chair.
Rating: Summary: Very refreshing and incredibly original Review: This book bowled me over, COMPLETELY. A fan of Harry Potter, I was interested in this because people were saying that it was the next Harry Potter. It's nothing like Harry, but I totally loved Artemis Fowl. Completely unlike anything else I've read, the hero is the villain, the magic is combined with technology, and the sidekick(Butler)kicks...better than the main character. Artemis combines the mind of Einstein with the attitude of Atilla the Hun. Not your normal good-vs.-bad fantasy story, Artemis Fowl is much more realistic, with two groups fighting one another, and neither is totally good or totally bad. Eoin Colfer is a genious and his combo of magic and technology grabbed me by the throat.
Rating: Summary: Not just for kids Review: Artemis Fowl is not what most people would consider to be a hero. He's a 12 year old prodigy that's smarter than the majority of adults. He lives in Ireland as a cold cruel human being. In fact the only signs that he is really human is the concern he has for his bedridden mother and the wish to see his father, who disappeared years ago, once more. In this book he has a new goal for him, finding Leprechaun gold, and when he kidnaps Captain Holly short, a LEPrechaun and policeman in the underground world where fairy's live. He's willing to do anything to get her gold, and he may end up doing that. Will the her fellow fairies save her in time? I really enjoyed this book. The fairies are unlike any other we've seen before. They are not only magical but they have more powerful technology then we do. They live underground and rarely come to the surface out of fear of being scene. Artemis is also an interesting person who may seem evil and cruel on the surface but he is much more complex underneath. I absolutely love the new style of kids novels that have been surfacing in the past few years. The characters are convincing, the plot is complex, and they're just as magical any novel. If you're a fan of great dark kids books read this. It's an entertaining read.
Rating: Summary: What a Prequel! Review: This is one of the best books I read in a long time. I found out about this book when some of my classmates were also reading this book and the cover of the book caught my interest. This book is basically a fantasy/science-fiction and those are my favorite type of books. I think that this book really sparked my interest in books again, since I have been reading a lot since I read this book. It was even better when I found out that there was going to be a sequel to this book, because I love to read books in a series and this was a fantastic prequel to the next book. It had me hooked on to the book! I even got in trouble because I was reading it with a flashlight under my covers one night when my dad happened to walk into my room. I was just that interested in the book! This particular book is about a twelve year-old genius that might be said as a criminal mastermind. His personal bodyguard and his only friend (basically) is Butler who was a humongous guy who outfought a troll! In this story, he and Butler capture a fairy from the Lower Elements Police Reconnaissance (LepRecon), Captain Holly Short. He captures her after finding out about all of the fairy's secrets in a book that is somewhat like a rulebook about life to the fairies. The only reason he captured her was for the ransom gold that he would get from the LepRecon for Captain Holly Short as well as keeping their secrets quiet. He also knows that once he gets the money, therefore beating the fairies, he gets to keep the money and they cannot bother him about this ever again. This was all in the Book of the fairies, which gives little twelve year-old genius Artemis Fowl the advantage, wouldn't you think? This book totally changes the thoughts of how "good," fairies are. If you think that fairies are just little things that fly around and help people, according to this book, you're wrong. In this book fairies are totally dangerous, and wings don't grow naturally out of their bodies. They are a battery-operated clip-on! Also if you think that fairies don't fight, than you have got another thing coming. They have weapons that you can't even imagine, including this bomb called the "Bio-Bomb" which completely disintegrates all biological organisms in the radius, but leaves the structures as if nothing has ever happened! What kind of fairies uses this kind of weapon! Read it! It is guaranteed to make you not want to put it down!
