Summary: Reluctant readers, beware
Review: A must have for reluctant readers and voracious readers alike. Middle school or advanced 4th- 5th grade readers will love the fast moving action, adventure, fantasy, and humor. I've recommended it and passed it around frequently with nothing but rave reviews.

P.S. not for children only!!!! Every adult I've given it too has loved it as well.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: This is definately just as good as Harry Potter! (And very good competition, too!) Being a Harry Potter Fan myself it was hard to say that but I dont want to give too much away! This a definately worth reading!!!

Summary: Not Bad, but Not Particularly Good
Review: Artemis is indeed an interesting character. I'll admit he is certainly not the norm as far as protagonists go. However, I had a hard time getting into the novel. By far the best part was the code that ran along the bottom of the page. I had lots of fun working that puzzle out.

Summary: NOT WHAT MOST EXPECTED
Review: Unlike many of the ARTEMIS FOWL readers, I was quite unaware of the comparisons between Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter. I picked the book up off the shelf intrigued by the title, and was surprised at the words "Stay back, Human. You don't know what you're dealing with." glaring at me from the back cover (Referring to the Hardback edition.)

Upon reading the prologue, I came upon the realisation that Artemis Fowl was to be one of the most interesting characters that I met in a book. Quickly I was won over by his attitude: Seemingly cruel and heartless, but with a spark of humanity; determination beyond belief and an adult way of looking at things matures Artemis to an emotional age that very few characters display.

Colfer's characters developed wonderfully: The child who is attempting desperately to be an adult (Artemis), the fairy who just wants to do her job in peace (Holly), the butler who is more of a father, albeit one who follows orders (Butler), the boss who doesn't understand why he is given the test case (Root), and the centuar who is delightfully paranoid (Foaly). Each character is armed with their own type of wit and understanding; interaction between characters mimicks interaction between humans beautifully.

The story provides very laughable antics with wonderful props: I was under the impression that cigars and tinfoil were rather drab objects and discovered how sorely mistaken I was.

ARTEMIS FOWL is a "finicky" book: either you enjoy it or you don't. This is due mainly to perception. While some enjoy laughing at Artemis' unusual dasterdly deeds, others are offended. Please, just don't pass ARTEMIS FOWL by without giving him a second chance.

Summary: A true work of Genius!
Review: Deffinatly one of my favorite books! I can't say I can compare Harry Potter and Artemis fowl though...They are two different books, Harry Potter being one of my all time favorite books! I love them both! ^_^ they don't relate that much to each other, and I don't believe Artemis Fowl will ever be the next Harry Potter!
I recommend this books to people that love magic and fantasy stories...To all ages...well exception to Really really young children...I believe it's bit more violent than Harry Potter!
I hope this helped anyone who was considering this book!

Summary: Good book
Review: This is a book about a young criminal mastermind and his plot to restore a family fortune. He finds out about the fairies that live underground, even though humans aren't supposed to know anything about them. Artemis's plan is to kidnap a LEPrecon officer to get ransom money. And he does just that. But he gets more than he expected, having underestimated the People.

This is a really fun book to read, and I recommend it. It's not like the Harry Potter books. It envolves magic, sure, but it's a different kind of magic, and it's a different world.

Summary: This is the best book!
Review: THis is the best book! Way better than Harry Potter!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: let it stand on its own
Review: It is unfair to compare this book to Harry Potter. I enjoyed both Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl. Artemis Fowl is a different type of story, as so many other reviewers have pointed out. Artemis is not a perfectly moral character, but he is fun for kids to read about because he is not a perfect hero.

The book begins by explaining that Artemis is a character not to be messed with, but the story proves that he has feelings and is devoted to his family.

I thought this was a wonderful book, if you like Harry Potter but are willing to try something a little different this is a great book. I read it in one sitting, the story is lots of fun!

Summary: Giving Harry potter a run for his money
Review: I absolutely loved Artemis Fowl. Having read this book as a continuation of my love for fantasy and having throughly enjoyed the Potter series I found Colfer's world to be one which was entertaining, well thought out, and a great deal of fun. Don't read this book if you want another Harry Potter book, read it on it's own merits! The characters are unique, and Fowl is not supposed to be another Potter. He is supposed to be an EVIL 12 year old. In the end the book focused more on Root's quest to regain Holly, one of the LEPrecon's recruits and dealt more with an introduction to Colfer's fantasy world than it did on the trials of a media-frenzied genius wizard at boarding school. Fowl isn't meant to be the role model, but another character for children to enjoy reading. The book was easy to follow and even contained a puzzle for added entertainment. Also recommended: The price of Immortality............you should read this book. you will not be Disappointed !!...

Summary: Good story, shame about the main character
Review: Crime isn't supposed to pay, but it seems to for Artemis Fowl, the 12 year old criminal genius at the centre of this modern day fairy tale. The boy genius has a simple aim- to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And he finds it. Sort of.

Fairy tales and fantasy stories are more popular now than ever, with the likes of Harry Potter and The Lord Of The Rings storming the best-seller lists and box offices of the world simultaneously. Everyone seems to want a piece of the action. A cynic would say this novel attempts to jump on that bandwagon. After all, its full of mystical creatures like leprechauns and trolls, and the central character is a schoolboy. Artemis is no Harry Potter though. He's more like a young Slippery Jim Di Griz, science fiction writer Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat, but with less technology. Unlike the Stainless Steel Rat though, Artemis Fowl is really not a likable character. His entire scheme is driven by greed, and his servant, Butler, does much of the hard work. At times, it's hard to resist hoping Fowl's adversaries will beat him. Instead of coming across as a loveable scamp, he's more like a know all spoiled brat.

The real stars of this story though, are the People. The People live underground, where the Mud People (that's us) can not find them. The People are magical and more technologically advanced than surface dwellers, and they value their peace and quiet. Artemis disturbs them, forcing Lower Elements Police recon (LEPrecon), a crack special operations group of elves, into action. LEPrecon seem to run a little like the stereotypical movie police force- a red faced commander who shouts a lot, a heroic renegade much of the action focuses on, and a supporting cast of well intentioned but bumbling supporting characters. Oh, and there is a wise cracking technological genius who happens to be a centaur. Other mythical creatures, like trolls, goblins and dwarves feature in the story, adding much comic flavour.

The story as a whole is a mix of science fiction, fantasy, and a little social commentary. As an added bonus, there's a secret code, supposedly the language of the People, running across the bottom of every page in the book. Apart from the character flaws of young Artemis, this book is an excellent read, fast paced and entertaining with an original spin on mythology.
