Rating: Summary: Great from the Start to Finish... Review: Artemis Fowl has to be one of the best books I have read in a long time. Finally an author has come out with something new and interesting.
Unlike what you may have been hearing, Artemis Fowl doesn't have much in common with Harry Potter at all. Only that there are Enter Artemis Fowl, a 12-year old genius, and criminal mastermind. He lives alone with his mother (who's gone insane), Butler (his bodyguard, and Juliet (Butler's younger sister). Artemis has just gotten his hand the sacred book of the faeries. And it brings a whole lot of trouble when he kidnaps LEPrecon Holly Short, and demands gold.
This book was very entertaining and I couldn't put it down. I was able to connect to the characters on both sides of the story, which left me very satisfied. There is some hard vocabulary in it, but it shouldn't hold you down.
It is an action/suspense book with some fantasy elements in them. Also, these "fairy creatures" are not just sweet lovable things. Such as the dwarf's ability to unhinge his jaw and tunnel through dirt.
If you are looking for a good read, Artemis Fowl is the book for you!
Rating: Summary: Could have been so much better. Review: You can read the other reviews/synopses too see what the book's about. I thought that it was only okay, but could have stood for more details and character development. A 12-year-old criminal genius? Sounds interesting, but that's about as far as Colfer takes us. His mother's got problems (sad) but things getter better by the end (happy). The banter between Foaly and everyone he talks to is hokey. Thoughts/scenes aren't carried out for any length of description. If you've already read Nix's Sabriel books, Pullman's His Dark Materials triology, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and (of course) the Harry Potter books and you need a quick fantasy fix, then Artemis Fowl will get the job done. But you may be let down. I would recommend reading this only the fill the time until Nix's next book, Abhorsen, comes out.
Rating: Summary: Artimis Fowl Review Review: What is your favorite type of book? Is it Fancity, mystery, adventure or mayhem? Well, if you read any of these genres, check out this book: Artimis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer. It is a book for you! Let me tell you more about it; don't worry, I won't spoil it for you. Artimis Fowl is a genius, millionaire, and a criminal mastermind, and guess what? He's only twelve years old! I know; insane and cool at the same time, right? This book takes place at Artimis's manor close to Dublin which is in Europe. Artimis is so crafty he has even managed to stump the smartest medical minds and sent them running to their high paying psychiatrists. But when he cooks up a plan to restore the family fortune, (remember, Artimis used to be a billionaire.)by stealing the richest treasure all the creatures of the world have ever known, the treasure of the fairies. He may have met his match though in Captain Holly Short, and some members of her police force, the LEPrecon Special Forces (did I mention that Captain Short and the LEPrecon Special forces are elfs and have magic, so you need to have a big imanination) I guarantee that this book is a pageturner. The writing style is easy to follow and there are surprises at every turn. For instance when Butler Artimis's bodyguard, and probably the closest person he has to a friend battles and beats a troll, the first human ever to win. Every chapter ends with a cliff- hanger, like when Artmis gets his wish. I won't tell you what it is, but it is a truelysuspenseful book. I recommend this book to people in the age group of 11 or up, because it does have some really hard words and dialogue in it. But to people who love to read mystery, fantasy, mayhem or adventure books, enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Quick but Well-written Review: This one of those books that really grows on you. I read it the first time (Oh no, another HP wannabe with a big vocabulary), I read it the second time (Hmmmm...has some potential), read it the third time (Really cool book) and the fourth and become totally obsessed. No it's not better that Harry Potter but it really isn't fair to compare it to Harry Potter in the first place. This is a fairly quick read (it shouldn't take more than a day) and doesn't really lavish on the description. Harry Potter is a book made for serious, long reading and is incredibly descriptive. Overall, Artemis Fowl is a refreshing and funny blend of fairy tale creatures and fantastic technology. You opinion may differ but it's definitely worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Moriarty, Jr. in Fairyland Review: A 12-year-old criminal mastermind, his almost superhuman bodyguard and cops from the world Fairy...well the quick synopsis catches your attention. Too bad the execution is not up to the pitch. Starting with Artemis, who is introduced to the reader already the head of a criminal empire, most of the major characters are poorly written. (Although I will admit the Dwarf, Mulch, is an inventive if more than slightly repulsive character) They are cardboard cut outs, lacking in personality. They don't capture the imagination as characters from the best children's literature do; they just go from point a to b in a predictable fashion. The magic and wonder that should be found in the mythical creatures Fowl confronts is lost amidst crude dialogue and predictable plot turns. I know this has proven to be popular, but I honestly don't see why. It's definitely aimed at a male audience, not withstanding Sgt. Holly of LEP Recon, and it definitely does not have the sense of wonder associated with the better juvenile SF/Fantasy novels
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS THE BEST!!! Review: I really liked this book. You see, I was at my brother's friend's pool and he was reading this book. I didn't think I would like it because it was so complicated. But when I was at a bookstore, I bought it and I loved it! I highly recommend this book to young and old. It's so funny how Artemis is so much smarter than average adults.

Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review: Artemis Fowl is a great book. The whole book just keeps your attention unlike boring ones. This book is action packed and full of adventure. His bodyguard, Butler, is very cool because he broke a pick pocketer's hand without even looking dowm at the hand. That is something that you don't hear of every day! The story goes like this. Artemis is trying to restore his family's fortune since some was lost when a boat that Artemis's dad and 250,000 cans of soda were on exploded and cost them. Artemis kidnaps a fairy to get it's gold and stirs all of the LEPrecon fairies (fairy F.B.I.) up to get the fairy back. In the end, Artemis gets his gold and the fairy goes back with the LEPrecon.
