Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl -- Boy Genius Review: Do you like to read about people who have such brilliant talents but dedicate themselves to criminal activities? Then the book Artemis Fowl is the right book for you. Artemis Fowl is a twelve year old boy. He is a genius, especially when he plots to steal gold from fairies. But Artemis dedicates himself to crime since the mysterious loss of his father. He was aboard the Fowl Star, a ship that sunk and now Artemis doesn't know if his father is still alive or not. His father had lost some money, and Artemis wants to make up for the lost money by stealing the gold that belongs to fairies. Artemis is very good at planning schemes. His plan is to blackmail the fairies by capturing a fairy officer and only releasing her in exchange for gold. He puts an ad on the internet to help him find a fairy so he can get a copy of the fairies' book. The Book reveals the fairies' tricks and rules of life that could help him capture the fairy officer. Artemis meets a fairy and tricks her into letting him videotape the Book. With instructions from the Book Artemis captures a fairy officer named Holly Short who is the only female officer in the LEP forces, the fairy army. The LEP forces try everything to get Holly back. They send in trolls and armies to attack the Fowl manor. Will the fairy police rescue Holly or will they have to give up their gold? Artemis Fowl is a good and challenging book. The parts in the book that I liked the best were when Artemis was trying to get his hands on the Book by tricking the fairy, and when Artemis Fowl captures Holly. I liked this book. I thought it was very exciting and I think you will like it, too.
Rating: Summary: Those who cannot see the forest for the trees have run afowl Review: I'm a 53-year-old reader. "Artemis Fowl" is a wonderful book on many levels. The characters are engaging, and, yes, -- the vocabulary can be a bit of a stretch for younger readers -- but, shouldn't books for this targeted readership encourage the readers to enhance their vocabularies? Odd that no one has alluded to the book's hidden treasure. Ohm may well be offended. Best of all, the book is unequivocally fun!
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book is awesome. Read it. Eoin Colfer could rival Rowling as an author. Their writing styles are similar, and not just in the kid fantasy element. This book is probably deeper than Harry Potter, too, because you see things from the bad guy's point of view, causing the book to be less set out in black and white than Harry Potter. Read it now.
Rating: Summary: I raced through it! Review: This is a very fast-paced book indeed. There is something happening on every page so that you never get bored. I read 90% of this book in one sitting and the rest the next morning (I needed my sleep). There is no over-description or indulgence here. It's a story told quickly and smartly. And I really cannot understand any of the negative reviews here. There are no REAL good guys or bad guys in this book. Everything is rather evenly balanced. So when people moan about Artemis Fowl being a nasty little boy and a villain and so on it really puzzles me. This book is written to be accessible to all ages, so when adults cannot get into the story it's a bit odd. The plot twists, while intelligent and clever, are NOT hard to follow. You'll be almost oblivious to them practically if you turn the pages as quickly as I did. I like the idea of setting it in Ireland and a 12 year old boy as the lead makes it appealing to kids moreso. My fave character tho was Foaly, the gadget-fixated centaur. I worry tho that maybe the presence of so much super high-tech gadgetry might date the book badly in a few years to come. It's cool to see fairies using plasma screens and surveillance cameras but the original Star Trek series looks badly dated now in retrospect and I worry that the same thing might befall Artemis Fowl. It's a shame because this really ought to be a timeless book. I'm certainly looking forward to the sequel. And if you like fantasy novels or intelligent fiction for all ages then quickly pick up a copy of Artemis Fowl. I got the hardback copy with the glittering sparkles all over the cover. And it looks way cool.
Rating: Summary: Fun, fast read! Review: Artemis Fowl is a fairy tale turned upside down. Part villain, part hero, Fowl's intelligence and propensity for evil make him easy to dislike, but his weaknesses--his mother, Butler, and the wrestling-obsessed Juliet--let us see a softer side. This was a fun adventure with fairies, leprechauns, trolls, and dwarfs as you've never experienced them before! (Who knew dwarfs could shoot dirt out their butts??) Definitely a quick read for an adult, but quite fun. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable Fantasy Review: The action adventures of Artemis Fowl. One of the best fantasies you'll see in a while. The excitement builds as Artemis kidnaps a fairy all LEP (being the fairy police) rush to save their fellow officer. As people know there is gold to get when you capture a fairy. So that is what Artemis was looking for. He goes through a great deal with his butler (who knows 100 ways to kill you with in a matter of seconds with his hands). This is no ordinary butler as you can see. SO read the book and see butler take out an entire retrieval squad read Artemis Fowl!
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Revisited by Kristen White Review: Artemis Fowl by Erin Colfer is a fantasy with 220 pages. It's about a 12 year old boy named Artemis who is trying to get leprachaun gold. He hopes to make his family rich again. He kidnaps and holds the leprachaun, Holly, for ransom. She has a lot of armement. When I was reading this is reminded me of the army and the weapons they use. This is a text to self connection because my older brother is in the army national guard. I give this book three stars because the beginning was uninteresting to me but the story was great!
Rating: Summary: entertaining Review: While waiting for the next Harry Potter I ordered this book for my nephew but ended up reading it myself. It is very entertaining and fun. Not as fun as Harry Potter but well worth your time. My nephew, who is 11, gave it 5 stars however. He LOVED IT!
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl Review: This book is about a 12 year old boy, named Artemis Fowl. Artemis is a criminal mastermind, and is determined to steal the richest treasure in the world; fairy's gold. Artemis is always about one step ahead of his opponets. This book tells us about what happens on his interesting journey to steal the treasure, who he meets, and what occurs when he kidnaps Captain Holly Short. I thought that this book was really good. Everytime i would go to read it, i couldn't put it down. If you like the Harry Potter series, then you will definitly like this book because they are kind of similar. But overall, i would definitly reccomend this book to anyone over the age of 10.
Rating: Summary: It's Artemis Fowl !!! Review: Hello! I'll start by telling you about this book. It's a fantasy novel written by Eoin Colfer. It's about a power-hungry pre-teen out to make a million. Mr. Artemis Fowl wants gold, fairy gold, and he'll stop at nothing to get it. He really crosses the line when he steals a fairy "bible" and captures one of LEPrecons leading man... uh, woman. Now, that really ticked off the comander, who, throughout this book is trying to get Captain Holly Short back. Artemis Fowl succedes, sort of. That Artemis Fowl is a slippery fellow, and as I said before, he's out to make a million in fairy gold. Thanks!
