Summary: Loved it!
Review: I loved this book. It was funny, sarcastic, and interesting. I am an adult reader and this book reminded me of the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, the ones where viewers of all ages found something to their taste. Violence is a part of this story of a criminal mastermind, but just one part. I found it was used appropriately, and several characters in the book routinely demonstrate that a good intellect is superior to a weapon. The book does not drip with morality, which is precisley why I believe it is very effective at communicating the fact that Artemis is just a little boy who wants his mommy and daddy - regardless of what he says or does.

Summary: Er...
Review: I can't really say whether this book is good or bad. The character, Fowl is interesting, maybe a tad "too smart" by it seems to just be about technology and ammunition. The plot is weak, probably only created to support the tech. stuff. It totally looks as if Colfer wrote a book about warfare, then decided to turn it into a storybook by adding a floppy outline which doesn't even hold.
After saying that, I must admit the descriptions are good, it helps you picture the characters, though it would be more exciting if Colfer decided to add in descriptions of Fowl and Butler bit by bit, changing it once in a while. He has this thing about repeating himself through the book.
You can agree or disagree with me...I seriously don't care.

Summary: Utter Dreck
Review: So much for the hype. This book has a lot of words, somewhat of a plot pretext, tons of clichés and none of the actual literature to pull it off. I found nothing believable (see 'suspension of disbelief'). The characters were flat, and I found the relentless diatribe against humans to be completely insulting. Read it if you want, but remember if you do, you will only encourage bad authors to continue to produce bad novels.

Summary: A fantastic and adventurous tale, but not for little ones.
Review: This book is masterfully written. The vivid details of the underworld and the daily life of "The People" are magnificent. I have not finished the SECOND book, but I find it hard to put down. The author's imagination is genius. Artemis Fowl is the boy genius we love to hate.

Summary: A good book, but...
Review: A good book, it was interesting, but i forgot about it quickly. I know, that might be kind of hard to understand, so i'll try to explain. You know how the really good books always stick in your mind? Like you never forget the characters, and some you may even daydream about (hehe ;))? Well, this book, I just forgot about. THen i saw the second book in Walden's (the bookstore at the mall i go to) and bought it. I still haven't read it. I read the first page or so, but couldn't really get into it. Read if you want.

Summary: Artemis Fowl a review by Mehgan
Review: In the year 2032 a thirteen-year-old boy and his manservant are on a mission to find a sprite, named Holly, and turn her into the police for the reward money. The thirteen-year-old super genius, Artemis Fowl the third, and manservant, Mr. Butler, have set out to recapture the fowl fortune and rebuild the fowl reputation.
In the book Artemis Fowl by Eion Collen, Mr. Butler is a highly trained defensive tactic system that will kill anything seen as a threat to the fowls. To add to the chaos Artemis must deal with the changes in his family's structure. His dad has disappeared and in turn, mom has taken a vacation from reality.
One of my favorite scenes is when Holly defeated the troll (people aren't supposed to see magical creatures). Another scene I like is when Mr. Butler's younger sister, Juliet, tries to wrestle with the pizza boy and then he runs away (which is strange for a 16yr.old girl. The boy was trying to crawl away but he couldn't. He kept yelling "Help, help, please ."Finally ,when Juliet realized what she was doing she let him go and the boy ran probably all the way back to Pashmina's pizza shop. Then the pizza was now filled with bugs and grass so she started to cry. I think they're all weird. As you might have guessed the fowl are weird but they're nice. I hope you read this funny but dramatic book.

Summary: Complete crud .
Review: This is truly one of the worst books ever.Honestly ,how are you supposed to like the main character if he's a criminal mastermind ?How are you supposed to find it funny if the humor is complete gore ?Truly ,I don't understand how anyone can like this book.

Summary: Everybody's Book
Review: This book was extraordinary in making you really think. The plot was a little complex, but once I understood it I found it drawing me in. It's about this abnormally ingenious teenager who hasn't seen his father in ages, of which has probably died seeking revenge of the family fortune (that he lost). Artemis felt responsible for regaining it, and was obviously up to the challenge. He was "always 2 steps ahead" as Butler, his friend and partener in crime put it, and managed to predict exactly what every character was going to do. After cleverly stealing information from an old, drunken fairy, he kidnapped another fairy and held her hostage. The author let you see what was cooking in all the main character's minds, and let you watch as very seperate worlds slowly intertwined. The only weakness I found in the whole book was that it had a lot of backround information in the beginning. This was fine, and even helpful, once you got, maybe half-way through the book. However, some people may feel tempted to put it down if they do not read on. I gave it 5 stars, because it would fit anyone's imagination, as long as they were willing to use it.

Summary: What?
Review: A lot of people have told me to 'read this book, it's so great!' I do not believe that so many people like this book. I read the first three chapters and I just didn't like it.
If you want a good book about a teenage criminal mastermind, a good choice is Stormbreaker or Point Blanc by Matthew Horowitz. Those books were good reading, and Artemis Fowl just wasn't worth it.

Summary: Great fun!
Review: I must admit I truly love the Artemis Fowl books. The exentricities of the cast and the wonderful "straight-from-action-movie"-dialogue make these a great read, whatever your age. Young Artemis, the highest rated IQ in europe despite being only twelve, and his faithful bodyguard-slash-manservant Butler are a are not to be missed, as the plot keeps winding forward through countless twists and turns.

This is not a soppy-sweet childrens book though, as there are some wonderfully dark and sinister moments. For starters, people really do get hurt, which is refreshing.

Artemis is a truly fascinating hero, even though he is technically the bad guy here. He is frighteningly ruthless and thoroughly cool. The way he bosses around with Butler (and everybody else) is also fun to behold. His dialogue echoes Sherlock Holmes at times, which is brilliant. A great person to spend a few hours with, surely!

What I liked best though, is the fairies, particularly the wisecrakcing centaur Foaly. And from that name, you might guess that this book is also riddled with puns and clever naming, my particular favorite being "Mulch Diggums".

Granted, the book falls on a clichee now and again, and sometimes theres a skip in logic, but it still gets a full five stars for being exactly what it wants to be: a childrens book parody on a fantasy action-movie!

I'm serious, youll laugh til you cry. Everytime you thought things were turning to a semblance of normality, something completely weird happens.

So, I heartily recomend Artemis Fowl to anyone who likes fantasy, action movies, science fiction, or simply to anyone with a sense of humour. Trust me, you cant go wrong with Artemis Fowl.
