Rating: Summary: Potter vs. Fowl Review: I was intrigued by this series based on rumors that it was as good as the famed Harry Potter. So, to all you Harry Potter fans, it isn't quite the same caliber in my opinion. However, it was suprisingly enjoyable and was very easy to read. The story wasn't what I had anticipated at all, but was very entertained by Colfer's story and characters. If you enjoy magic and fantasy creatures, give this book a shot!
Rating: Summary: A hero who is a criminal? For children?! Review: There is absolutely nothing about Artemis Fowl that should be appealing to anyone. You can see it in the other reviews, and you can see it on the blurb on the book's cover -- Artemis is a criminal. He is a young man, the "hero" of these tales, and his is one of the most brilliant minds in the world. And yet he uses his brains for conniving, criminal mischief. This is heroism that we want our children to cheer for? Sure, there's fairies and magic and an underground world that is delightfully enchanting, but one never loses the fact of who and what Artemis is. Just as I was beginning to think that perhaps I was wrong and that Artemis would turn over a new leaf, the narrator of the story actually tells us that while it may look like we should feel sympathy toward Artemis, he has not in fact changed. Indeed, he is more resolute to continue his criminal ways. An easy to read style and a fairly unique fantasy setting may fool some people to think that this is just a harmless, fun read, but a criminal is still a criminal, and Artemis IS a criminal with not a shred of decency going for him. There are plenty of books available that capitalize on Harry Potter's fame, and they do so in entertaining, fun ways. Most of the books in the DINOTOPIA series are heads above Artemis Fowl, and Philip Pullman's HIS DARK MATERIALS trilogy is easily one of the most unique, ambitious, and fantastic reads around. Or try Bruce Coville's Magic Shop books, or his Unicorn series. Fairies and adventure are fine, but don't give me a "hero" that I can't wish to emulate. Yes, a hero can have faults. In fact a hero SHOULD have faults (as Harry does). But a hero should also have more positive features than negative.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Romp Review: Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer is a cross between Pippi Long Stocking and Richie Rich. Twelve-year old Artemis Fowl, millionaire, genius and criminal mastermind, has come up with a plan to black mail the fairies out of their gold and restore his family fortune. The events which ensue afterwards make for a rollicking good story. Some parents may be dismayed by the idea of a story about a twelve year old criminal, however they shouldn't be concerned. Artemis Fowl is harmless fun. Preston McClear, ...

Rating: Summary: Artemis Review: This book makes you feel alive inside the book with artemis and everyone else it has a little bit of love but a lot of action and fantasy dreams. Rating: Summary: A Brilliant Mix Review: Another reviewer called this "Die Hard with Fairies". I agree, but I'll compare it to a brilliant mix of James Bond and Star Trek with the classic fantasy creatures. Artemis is a 12 year old criminal mastermind and he's developed the master plan to steal gold from the underworld fairies. Only, it's not going to be easy because the fairies are nearly invisible to the human population (Mud People) and they have tech that Captain Kirk would LOVE to get his hands on and have packaged into nifty little gadgets that only James Bond could appreciate. I really enjoyed this book as I think all 5th grade and up children would. The combat, and the effects of it, are a little bit graphic for younger children. After you finish reading the book, there is a cryptogram to decipher as an added bonus for kids who like to solve puzzles. It's not a tough code to break, but still alot of fun. I look forward to more installments of this series.
Rating: Summary: Great, awesome...b ut I can't quite give it 5 stars Review: This book has a good plot, intersting charachters, and an evil hero. Awesomeness, but some parts were sort of cheesy. Definantly worth reading, though! Artemsi Fowl:The Arcitc Incident is another good read! Oh, but don't read it if you aren't into fantasty and action movies!
Rating: Summary: Awesome, an all time classic tale Review: As soon as I started to read Artemis Fowl I was taken away by the way Eion Colfer wrote this book. I could not put it down. I got this book on Monday and was done by Saturday. There will never be another book that is this dang good.
Rating: Summary: A Really Great Book! Review: This Book is great,I really liked reading this book because it was very interesting. I like it because Artemis Fowl is a criminal Mastermind and he is really smart. I also like it because it has technology, (that's always great!) It has action and it has some karate/judo fighting. The book is really exciting. It never lets you go until you finish the book. it has an interesting view on how Artemis sees the world. I also like his bodyguard Butler. I like Butler because he's a hand-to-hand expert, and he can take down somebody without any weapons. Overall I would rate this book a 5 and reccomend it to anyone that likes Fantasy Books.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book Review: Book name: Artemis Fowl Author: Eoin Colfer Published: 2001 What comes to your mind when I say the word "fairies?" You think of the whimsical little creatures that fly around with their little wands, right? Well, in Artemis Fowl, wrong. Fairies and the other Lower Elements (magical creatures like fairies, pixies, gnomes and centaurs) are the most technologically advanced race on the planet. They have huge guns, cameras in contact lenses, bombs that only kill living things, but leave no physical evidence, even DNA-coded plasma cannons. And everything is nuclear powered. There is also a lower elements police called, well, the Lower Elements Police or the LEP. This story is about an LEP reconnaissance officer named Captain Holly Short. She's the only female officer ever in the LEP. But before I can get into that, I should probably tell you who Artemis Fowl is. The Fowls are on of the most powerful, rich and influential families in Ireland. But since the disappearance of Artemis Fowl Senior, the Fowl family fortune has been diminishing. So the headstrong Artemis Fowl Junior decides to do something about it. But this isn't just one of those little-kid-big-dream things. Artemis Fowl is the most brilliant, cunning, clever criminal mastermind that has ever lived. He finds out about the Lower Elements and gets a copy of "The Book", like the fairy bible that has their rules to live by, and describes their society. He finds that they have a great amount of gold. He decides that he wants some of that gold, and that nothing is going to stop him. So he formulates a plan. He decides that he'll kidnap a fairy and hold her ransom for one ton of twenty-four carat gold. That's where Holly comes in. The fairy Artemis kidnaps turns out to be Holly. And since Holly is one of the LEP's top agents, it's a big deal. So, after several assassination and negotiation attempts, he LEP comes up with a plan, too. They hand over the gold and get Holly out, then they send a bio-bomb in which kills every living thing but leaves no physical evidence. They try to go back into the house to take the gold back but find out they are not able to enter. According to The Book, a fairy cannot enter the dwelling of a mud man with the mud man's permission. Artemis had said no one could enter as long as he was alive. The LEP figures that if Artemis was dead, they could enter. But they were physically not able to. So Artemis keeps his gold, and for once, the bad guy wins. Because the bad guy wins, there's not much of a moral. I guess it could be that cunning and cleverness will always win over technology. Artemis learns that (while not the best lesson to learn) he can get what he wants through blackmail and thievery. He changes in the way that he becomes more like his father, who did much illegal business. This is one of the best books I have ever read. On a scale of one to ten, I would give it a sixteen. I liked it because it was so creative and original. The plot is thrilling, intriguing, and suspenseful. It has a little of everything. Sci-Fi, fantasy, adventure, action, humor, and tons more. I loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone age 10 and up.
