Summary: Vittorio ... and I don't mean blood.
Review: I have been a fan of Anne Rice since the day I finished Interview
with the Vampire back in the late 70's, but I can't understand how Vittorio and the previous book, Pandora could have even been
written by the same person who wrote Interview with the Vampire
and The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned. Pandora appeared
to be dashed off with very little thought or research. Pandora
spoke in today's vernacular instead of the way she would have spoken when she was alive for OUR benefit! Please!! More like
the author didn't want to think too hard.
As bad as Pandora was, Vittorio is just plain piffle! Part of it
tries to be erotic and fails on that level miserably. Part of it
tries to instruct us in art history, which would be fine in a
travel guide for Florence, Italy; not so great in a horror novel.
She seems to have left-over fallen angels from Memnoch the Devil
which she throws in here. I think she had watched Camelot OR
perhaps Monty Python to come up with the Court of The Ruby Grail.
Probably Python, because I was certainly chuckling as I finished
this egomaniacal piece of claptrap!
Mind you, I will be giving Ms. Rice another chance. I will be
reading Blood and Gold because I LOVE Marius and because I sincerely hope Ms. Rice put some real heart and soul into writing
it. Of course, if she didn't and it turns out to be another stinker I will be writing another one of these.

Summary: Perhaps she is running out of ideas...?
Review: Vittorio was definitely not of the same calibur as the earlier Vampire Chronicles. He wasn't as vivid and alive. The story was ok... not great, but ok. It is a little more fanciful than the others. More out there in the wide world of dark fantasy. Vittorio's tale isn't quite as believable as the others were. If you haven't read any of the other chronicles yet, this one would probably be a good read, but when put up against The Vampire Lestat, Interview With a Vampire etc. it just doesn't hold up.

Review: A clean break from the chronicles, with a new fresh spirit.
Vittoro has a great tale, and tells it very passionately.
A great love story, and just a great story period. I highly recommend this one.

Summary: Angels&demons&mortals, oh no!
Review: The first half was soooo good! A vow of revenge, a strange town with a horrible secret, a decadent group of vampires. great!
but then the religious theme came into the picture.
Although I'm an atheist I can enjoy stories
with religious themes- but this was narrow minded textbook religion- Angels have wings, wear white robes, have blond hair.
The bad guys say things like 'take this sacrifice
oh satan, our dark lord'
At one point the angels are horrified because one of their wards is in bed with a woman... oh dear! what an awful sin! don't believe all these people saying that sex is a natural urge! oh no! you just keep on feeling guilty about it, ya hear?
the only thing missing was someone burning in hell because he is homosexual.
enough said about that.
Vittorio is tricked by Ursula and she turns him into a vampire. He is in a rage. how did she do this to him?! and what of his pure soul now?!
He forgets about those issues a page later when he and his beloved girlfriend are having a great time killing everyone in town, hmmm did I accidently skip a chapter? I was very confused.

So why did I give this book 2 stars?
Well, the first half was soooo good...
on a side note-If you are a fan of Rice and vampires
in general, I warmly reccomened Carpe Jugulum by
Terry Pratchett for a refreshing view of vampires,Witches, religion and er...tea.

Summary: Anne Rice Does It Again
Review: Vittorio is a different look at her thoughts on Vampires. Vittorio brings to life the Vampires, the Saints and the times he lived in. One can see all the creatures in vivid detail. I had the audio unabrigd and didnt want to stop.

Summary: What happened to Anne Rice?
Review: Yeah, this book was definitely a disappointment. Anne Rice writes great books, but this wasn't one of them. I would recommend this book to fans just so you get the whole set, but this isn't one you'll want to read and reread. Just not up to par with say The Witching Hour or the first 3 or 4 vampire chronicles.

Summary: Disappointment
Review: Not worth the money. I forced myself to read it as I had faith in Anne Rice and thought it would get better. The beginning was good, but it went drastically downhill around the middle. I was extremely disappointed and promptly threw it away after finishing. Maybe I don't get it, but I didn't find the angel descriptions that captivating.

Summary: Vittorio the Vampire
Review: This book is probably the slowest book I have ever read. It probably could have been 1/3 of its lenght and still could have gotten the point across. There is something to say about the charectorazation, though. Vittorio and Ursula are great charectors. This book proves that love can come from complete opposites. Also, this book is written extremely well. Everything in this book is written is crystel clear, although it takes 10 pages to describe one object. Thats what drove me crazy. This book took way too long to read. It wasn't, I feel, worth the time. If this book wasn't as long as it was it would be a great book.

Summary: A Hauntingly Beautiful Story from the Master...
Review: "Vittorito the Vampire" is a beautiful book. Anne Rice proves that she may be the greatest writer in the English language today. Her prose is beautiful and fluid and in this book she stays away from her over-the-top descriptions so many other fans hate (personally I love it...). I loved how this story was made independently of other vampire stories. At first I was skeptical, but Rice proved me wrong. This stroy more than almost any other of ther vampire books gives us a glimpse of how a vampire can love, hate, and wonder. The passages witht he angels are unearthly beautiful and the love between Ursula and Vittorio rivals that of any other romance she's written so far. Read this book and fall in love with the Vampires again.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: I was surprised with this new route
Review: Anne is trying to break out of the "Lestat and friends" mold I think. This is the story of Vittorio and is initially set in the middle ages. This story is more mystical then many of Anne other books, at least in a very different way. Vittorio can see angels. They are unwilling companions in his quest to free his love from other vampires while still killing the rest of the vampires who are praying on a village. This book has several deep moral subthemes such as what sacrifices must be made for the greater good and choosing the lesser of two evils. Also the idea of powerful, but nearly inept divine agents. The angels were powerful, but hardly flawless.

There is absolutely NO guest appearances from the vampires that we know so well. This story uses the same "setting" as the rest of the vampire novels, but all of the characters are new.

Overall, I enjoyed the novel, but I admit I missed Lestat.
