Rating: Summary: Not as memorable Review: Rice's most recent novel was seriously lacking something. It had an excellent premise, good characters, but almost no depth. If she had lengthened this, instead of creating somewhat of a novella, it would have improved the quality of the story. At times, I found myself falling asleep. Descriptively, Rice is still the queen, and she's wonderful when it comes to historical accuracy. I still can't wait for her next book.
Rating: Summary: Wonderul! Review: I loved this new Anne Rice book. Vittorio had such a wonderful character. Again, her main vampire character(Vittorio) has a very strong love towards another of his kind. For a change, this time Vittorio is still with his companion(Ursula).Although, as wonderful as her book was, it was sort of missing something. She should of told about Vittorio's life centuries after he was,"given the dark gift", but the book was still great.
Rating: Summary: The second in the new series is good, but slightly lacking.. Review: Vittorio was like going down a new road for me. It turned away from the traditional characters that Rice has been playing with for years (Lestat, Louie, Marius, etc...) and makes up some new ones. Unfortunately, while the plotline was superb and creative, the book needed more depth. If it had been 200 pages longer it would have made the story so much fuller. As it stood, I was very upset that when i finished, I felt as though i were missing something. I felt like i'd skipped some pages while i read. But on the whole, what i did read was great, Vittorio is a grand character; it only needed more depth to be more rich. All the same, I recommend this book, as it is quite good.
Rating: Summary: A Page turner Review: When I first went to buy this book I thought, oh no, not a nother vampire book but boy was I wrong. Anne Rice has a gift for taking you back in time, when you read this book you will feel like your in the 1700 hundreds, she takes you through Florence Italy and many other old world citys, Rice brings on many new vampires such as the vampire Ursula and vampires of the Ruby Grail, the pages will just flow and before you know what hit you your turning the last page. If you never read Anne Rice your missing out on one of the great Authors of our time.
Rating: Summary: Vittorio the Vampire Review: Anne Rice will always be a master of fiction, but VITTORIO is another nail in her casket as far as I am concerned. The short three hundred pages of this book were not enough. They were well written, but they were very much lacking. The joy of Anne's books includes learning the stories of more than the main character. In the golden days, Anne would have told us the story of Ursula at least. Come to think of it, Anne left out the last five hundred years of Vittorio's life too. Don't tell me he and Ursula haven't done something interesting in five hundred years. In summary, I'm very dissapointed with this book. Sorry Anne.
Rating: Summary: Anne just gets better and better! Review: My only complaint is that it could have been longer! Rich, Atmospheric, and memorable. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: An epic tale of good and evil, guilt and innocence, and trust and betrayal. Vittorio the Vampire has the relentless pace and stunning power of The Triumph and the Glory, the psychological tension of Hannibal, the visual imagery of the Harry Potter books, and the stark horror that only a novelist of Anne Rice's talent can deliver. Not as good as The Witching Hour or Lasher, but compares favorably with her Vampire Chronicles books.
Rating: Summary: too short! Review: As always, I adored Ms Rice's glorious descriptions of old Italy, and her rapturous ability to convey a love of art and music. I liked Vittorio a good deal, he is one of her more heroic vampire characters. The plot about the haunted city is a classic that deserves to be retold, and the underlying story of temptation and damnation is gripping. But it ended on such an abrupt note! I can't help but feel there should have been more.
Rating: Summary: Great new character for the chronicles Review: Yes, I know we missed Lestat and the old crew. But I think we may have to say goodbye to them and the fact that anne isn't going to write about them anymore. I loved Pandora and this is another great new vampire. I loved this story and the suprise ending that makes Vittorio different than any other vampire in the world. I would like to know what happened to him and Ursula when the Queen was killed and every vampire felt it. I wonder what they thought of it. I also like how Vittorio and Ursula don't go searching for their vampire origins like every other vampire in the chronicles. They are content to stay in there little corner of the world with each other forever.
Rating: Summary: An Anticlimatic New Start Review: While I do enjoy almost all of Rice's work, Vittorio left me somewhat hungry. It's always great to read about new characters, but this book was a complete departure from the magical world Rice has weaved that started with the Chronicles. I might have enjoyed it more had there been even a rudimentary tie to another Vampire character but when you're reading an established series, to introduce a completely alien character is somewhat traumatic. Why should we care about Vittorio? That was never explained. The book was, as usual, well written, but I would have much preferred a novella of a more established character, like Rice did with Pandora. She introduced a host of promising characters in Queen of the Damned, and I wish she had continued along that vein. I, for one, am still waiting for the explanation of where Mekare was during her separation from Maharet. Was she really sleeping the whole time? How depressing!
