Summary: Smart Couples Really can Finish Rich
Review: I have read this book several times, and have to say that if you work at it, and take a little lesson from each chapter, you REALLY CAN finish rich. My husband and I are living "by the book", don't make huge salaries, but really know where our focus for life comes from. You don't have to make large incomes to live "rich"....

Summary: Unrealistic advice
Review: I have to admit, the many 5-star ratings here for this book puzzle me. The best I can figure is that they come from a bunch of people like the (supposedly real) financial dum-dums in chapter 4, who found they were spending $85.75 PER DAY on double nonfat lattes, muffins, candy, video rentals, and take-out dinners. If you have that kind of money to throw around, then you can probably use the advice that David Bach offers in this book. (Or call me, and I'll charge you HALF the price of the book for some really helpful financial advice over the phone!)

But if you already are USING YOUR HEAD on where your money goes, but STILL find yourself living from paycheck to paycheck (like my family, and I suspect many others), then this book will only frustrate you. If we did everything Bach says we "MUST" do, I'd have about $200 left for paying the bills each month. Yeah, thanks for the advice, Mr Bach. I'm afraid water and electricity and mortgage comes before maxing out my 401K AND setting aside a cushion of 3-months worth of cash AND buying disability insurance AND then some long-term care coverage AND "sweeping at least 3 percent of my take-home pay into my 'dream basket.' (And, yes, the list goes on.) Wish I could. Maybe someday.

Summary: Most Financially Intelligent Purchase I Made in a LONG Time.
Review: I know this book is a bestseller, and I think it is with very good reason. I read it cover-to-cover in a couple of days because the author took something that I feel is so dry (finances) and made it very interesting.
I am the most financially insecure person I know, and this book really helped me take an honest look at where I am, and where I would like to go, but really stress that it is a "team" effort for me and my partner.
I highly suggest this book because it is very informative, and gives one realistic goals to attain. It also is very honest and matter-of-fact when talking about finances, and is not over the average person's head regarding money-lingo.
I think that this book was the most financially intelligent book that I have bought in the past few years.

Summary: Smart Couples Finish Rich
Review: I would have to say that this book was one of the best that I have read in a really long time. If you are really serious about saving money and retiring rich, definitely pay attention to this book and the advice that David Bach gives. You may have to sacrifice a few things early on, but what you get in the end is definitely worth it. Definitely a 5-star book.

Summary: Great Souce of Information!!
Review: IF you are reading this book, chances are you are ready for a change. You are ready to take control of your financial future. My advice is to read this book if you are in your mid to late 20's...because if you start your accounts at this age...this book explains that you are certain to be a millionaire when you retire. It explains EVERY concept in investing & even lists companies and websites that can give you more information. Read this book! It was a simple read...and a great source of financial information!!

Summary: STRONG, SOUND ADVICE!
Review: Investing for your future is sound, strong advice at any age. As a teacher of business management and having counselled an overwhelming number of people in the area of finance, I believe investing is particularly critical for young people today. I am so happy to read that previous reviewers, in their twenties, have learned from this book and are planning for their future. If you are starting your career and in your twenties, now is the time for financial planning, even though you might not be able to put a lot of money aside, "every penny saved, is a penny earned."

There are many books on the market today on investing and financial planning. Some I would highly recommend, others are not worth the time it takes to read the book - save the money you would spend on those "guaranteed get rich quick books" and invest the money where it will guarantee a return. "Smart Couples Finish Rich" is filled with a wealth of information on money management, retirement accounts, living trusts, types of insurance and investing in general. After reading it, you will be better equiped to manage your money and save for the future. That not only makes "smart cents," it makes smart sense. Hopefully, with some financial peace of mind and stability, couples will not only finish rich, they will finish rich... together!

Summary: Great Guide!
Review: My husband and I are both in our mid 20's and found this book extremely educational. The content in this book is clear and straight forward. By the time you're done reading you'll have a basic understanding of Retirement Accounts (401K, SEP, IRA, etc.), Living Trusts, Insurance (Health, Life, Disability, etc), and Investing (Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, etc) The impact after reading this book has been a great guide in helping us manage our money and prepare for an early retirement with very little change in our daily lives.

Summary: We did it!
Review: My husband and I have read and recommend all David Bach's books. They helped us achieve our goal of getting rid of our debt (not including our mortgage) within one year. He has a practical system that is simple to put to use. We have always struggled with our finances and have no skills in this area, but following his plan helped us organize ourselves and utilize the things he taught. We have hope now where there wasn't any and see possiblities where there was once only frustration.

Summary: Easy to read, a matter of taste?
Review: Other Amazon.com users' reviews made me interested in reading this book. As the author claims, it was very easy to read, and I learned a great deal about what are available to ordinaly employees, one of whom I am about to become.

Slightly arrogant tone that the author carries throughout the book is a typical one for self-help books written by male authors, which I find it rather unpleasant. But this does not seem to bother other readers.

I felt that the book is mostly written for higher income couples; I do not know how lower income couples would afford $1000 on a will that needs to be updated regularly. However, we should not forget that the goal the author is describing in this book is to be a millionaire couple upon retirement; not all of us have such aim in financial life. Therefore, if your values are in line with the author's, then perhaps this is a great advice book.

The last thing to mention is that the misleading statement used in the book. Perhaps details were omitted in order not to confuse us; however, incomplete information can truly misguide the readers. Yes, saving rate in the US has been rather low. But I feel that the author should explain how the saving rate in this country is measured, because low saving rate is NOT equal to small financial assets one owns.

Summary: Excellent Advice
Review: Regardless of where you are in life as a married couple, regardless of your financial situation, regardless of how much your income is or what your outlays are per month,if you even attempt as best you can to follow the advice in this book you cannot help but to dramatically improve your financial position in life. It is that simple. The money is always there. Employment is the only requirement to use the material in this book. Read, enjoy, and prosper.
