Rating: Summary: Concerned mother Review: As a member of the Vietnam veteran generation, I am concerned with Michael Moore's depiction of America's selfish motivations for entering Iraq. While some of his claims may be true, I am concerned that our troops fighting in Iraq, will face the same negative reception upon their return, that the young men and women of my generation faced when they returned from Vietnam. It is unfair to those serving our country to take our frustration with a President's foreign policy out on them.
Rating: Summary: Too much of a Good Thing? Review: When one reads in Michael Moore book, it is essentially a given that the book is being written for people with liberal proclivities. Consequently, I don't blame people whose sensibilities run towards the more conservative point of view for not liking Mr. Moore's book very much. I have been a fan of this author's work since his film Roger and me and found his last book to be insightful and funny. In this work, however, Mr. Moore appears to have abandoned his role as a humorist/satarist in favor of full blown partisanship. Since the points being trumpeted are points with which I agree (at least in part), the hyperbole doesn't ruffle my feathers too often. Unfortunately, over the length of this book, this reader was left with the unpleasant impression that Mr. Moore was poking him in the rib cage every time he made a point. Even when one agrees with the arguments, one wishes that Mr. Moore would either lighten up his prose or invest in an editor.
Rating: Summary: Dude, Where is It?! Review: Absolutely AMAZING. I don't know what's wrong with half these people, but definitely buy this book! It completely changed my outlook on 9/11 and the evil Bush Administration. Do you know WHY we're really on war with Iraq (this is one of the many issues covered in the book)? 1. No, there were NO Iraqis on the planes on 9/11. 2. No, Saddam and Osama DO NOT like each other or are in cahoots. (Moore comments that they did meet each other ONCE but it turned out to be like a great episode of Blind Date - they both HATED each other). 3. No, Saddam does NOT have connection with al Qaeda. 4. No, Iraq does NOT have any "weapons of mass destruction," not unless you count the stuff we gave them (i.e. Bacillus Athhracis, Clotridium Botulinum, Histoplasma Capsulatum, Brucella Melitensis, and Clostridium Prefringens. He explains what they are in the book. We also gave them computers and a whole mess of other stuff that totalled to 1.5 BILLION dollars). Moore investigates everything to the fullest and we, as American citizens, should KNOW everything there is to this awful story. This story where Bush devises plans and more plans to help out his Bin Laden friends and his rich friends with providing them access to FLY out of the country just days after 9/11 when NO ONE ELSE COULD FLY, tax breaks, and much more. READ IT.
Rating: Summary: Great BS Review: YOU can ASSURE us, Portland? A close relative died on 9/11. Your hero, the well-known fantastic genius, says she was likely killed by the Saudi Air Force, and anyway there's no problem. Maybe you can have a good laugh about that too. This is a deeply distasteful book, and anyone with an ounce of liberal feeling - or just plain feeling - should be able to see that.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I wont write a review as much as laugh at the conservatives... The only complaint the 1-star reviews can com eup with is that it is all lies and propaganda. Well, just keep watching your CNN, and i hope you have fun holding that gun pointed to the door, waited for that Arab Terrorist i can assure you is never coming...
Rating: Summary: ..like in a mess, Dude! Review: ...according to provacateur extraordinaire Michael Moore. Using the same name-calling, rabble-rousing, lunatic-fringe tactics as Rush Limbaugh et al, Moore wins with lol humor and making you think, rather than letting you think you're right. Read it and think.
Rating: Summary: Very Sad Fiction from an Angry Liberal Review: I feel sorry for Moore. Seems he can't let go of the glory years. This is such a slanted and biased account it would be laughable if it weren't so sad. Mike and those like him are fading into the sunset and it's hard for them to accept. Don't waste you time with this one.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLANT Review: I never agree with all of his conclusions, but Moore does a great job of investigating and exposing hidden facts. I highly recommend this book, particulary to thinking people. There are many obvious issues that he raises here that just don't occur to people. Read or listen to this book and draw your then own conclusions.
Rating: Summary: "Stupid White Men - Part Two" Review: This is not a book, properly; it's more like an essay, sort like that. I liked "Stupid White Men" a lot. I think by now it's becoming clearer and clearer who are the guys who are turning our lives into living nightmares of fear and hatred. But in this new book, I hardly found any new "evidence" of this that was not already portrayed in "SWM". And that's the problem with this book. Ok, it serves a "cause", the cause of barking even louder against the Bush administration and corporative America. But Moore seems obssessed and enraged and full of hate exactly like the conservatives he despises so much. In doing so, the book became an extremely displeasant journey, with arid writing and not an inch of SWM freshness and cohesion.
Rating: Summary: LOTS OF GOOD POINTS¿ Review: ...but I have to say they would be a lot more effective if the sources and background information that backs them up were in footnotes as opposed to the 30-page section at the end of the book. The people who read this book who already stand on the same side as the author won't have as much of a problem with this as those who really need convincing - and these latter readers are less apt to turn to the back of the book to find the back-up information. Moore makes a lot of valid and valuable points - his love and devotion for the United States and the values on which the founding fathers based the Constitution are very deep and very real. Those who ascribe to the tired and misguided 'love it or leave it' mantra might not see it that way - but Moore loves his country like a true friend, enough to want to help it be even better, to help it enable more people to live a decent life. The finger that he points is directed at big-money corporate America - and all of those who have made it their life's mission to keep it in power. The upcoming election is a critical one. America's place in the world as a country that stands up for honorable values, for uplifting the downtrodden, for being a true champion of real freedom and liberty - all of these things are at stake. Like Al Franken, Moore's function is more that of a cheerleader for those of us on the 'street level' who are more likely to make a difference with individual voters - the hard-liners that dominate the airwaves, and the increasingly-cowed mainstream press (seemingly afraid to push for actual answers to crucial questions) aren't going to be convinced by this or any other book that points out the house of cards in which the far Right has its 'moral headquarters'. It's up to us, and the time is at hand - the Limbaughs, O'Reillys, Hannitys and Coulters are screaming and thrashing because they're scared to death to think they're actually in the minority and on their way out. The more 'regular people' - the true majority in America - who are made aware of the lies and deception and greed that are driving the Bush administration's policies, the more likely it'll be that this American regime can be changed in time to prevent further damage. This is an important book. Also recommended: Al Franken's LIES AND THE LYING LIARS WHO TELL THEM; Joe Conason's BIG LIES; Richard A. Clark's AGAINST ALL ENEMIES; Craig Unger's HOUSE OF BUSH - HOUSE OF SAUD; and John W. Dean's WORSE THAN WATERGATE. Those of us who see the dire need for change have an obligation to school ourselves in the facts so that when we engage our friends and coworkers in political conversation (and PLEASE do so respectfully) we have the facts straight to back up what we say.
