Rating: Summary: He has done it again Review: What can I say. Michael Moore, what a great guy. Not afraid to stand up for what he believes in and he manages to be funny at the same time.Dude Where's my Country picks up where Stupid White men finished. In just 217 pages Michael Moore manages to take on the Iraq War, Terrorism and most importantly Bush. Moore makes many interesting points all of which are true. There is also a substantial section of resources proving the validity of his (sometimes shocking) facts. Dude Where's My Country is an eye-opening, hilarious read (how many other books include chapters titled "Woo Hoo! I Got Me a Tax Cut", "Bush Removal and Other Spring Cleaning Chores" and "How to Talk to Your Conservative Brother-in-Law"?). Love him or hate him, this book is a great read that reveals things that everyone should know.
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore is hilarious! Go Michael Go! Review: This book strikes the pefect balance between satire and political discussion. Michael is hilarious but also gets you thinking about all the rights we are losing since September 11th and why we are at war. This book kept me laughing but also made it hard for me to sleep at night. This book was as hilarious as "Downsize this" but a lot less 'ranty' than "Stupid White Men." I highly recommend. PS: Shame on the crowd for booing Michael Moore at the Academy Awards - that was his moment and he had a right to say what he wanted.
Rating: Summary: Makes sense to me..... Review: There is one thing you can definitely say about Michael Moore: you either love him or you hate him. For myself, I like him....because he bothers to research his facts and present them to the reader for their own analysis. While much of what he says in this book is similar to STUPID WHITE MEN, he does tend to attack Bush more openly, however, he doesn't totally leave the Democrats alone. He even devotes basically one whole chapter to the things that Democrats/liberals have done wrong...and also he landblasts the Democrats for being afraid of the Republican Party. I think what he says about the average American is basically true: most are more "liberal-minded" than they want to give themselves credit for, mainly because the conservative "minority" may have something bad to say about it. Mr. Moore's last chapter is the best...calling for everyone to get involved in the political process, and use their voting power to make a difference in the next (and future) election...whether it be to re-elect Bush or put a different person in the White House. Most of all, I have to agree with Mr. Moore when he tells us, the American people, to wake up! He is truthful when he says that we are being fed the big lie....and we're eating up like a dog eats a treat. If we were to wake up and smell the coffee, Washington D.C., and our country, would be a much different place. I recommend this book...and also the ones that Mr. Moore mentions. But, I would not just read liberal tracts like Al Franken and Greg Palast. I would also read TREASON and SLANDER by Ann Coulter, and the books by Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Michael Savage as well. It is important to read across the political spectrum and make opinions for yourself. Congratulations, Mr. Moore, I think you have people interested in politics again. I know I am!
Rating: Summary: Lies Disconnected, Truth Connected Review: There's a lot of critism about points made in the book. So let's briefly go over 2 factors, conceptual and imperical. Some imply that it's conceptual vs. imperical, and this is not the case because they work in harmony. Fact is, that if there was some way of finding material proof and associating it with the conceptual points Moore made, many people in Washington would go directly to jail. My review is not intended for the politically correct, because all hope is lost for those who think the world is what the media tells us. My review is for people who think something is NOT RIGHT. Somehow, Moore has connected a lot of points left missing in some of the other materials I reviewed. He cuts right through the fat of the subject with nothing less than politically incorrect candor. I'm surprised the Bush Administration hasn't labeled him an enemy combatant yet, and shipped him into Cuba's prison camp. But then again, 600 of our very own have been popping up right here in the U.S. So there's still time. He goes over a series of points on how we got from the 90's, to 9-11, to now. And how these incidents have been slowly deteriorating the Middle and Lower classes. If you're blind and politically correct, this book will anger you. Don't get it. If your awake and aren't buying any of this Mass Media b.s., it still will anger you. I recommend this book for everyone to read. Real American Patriots, founders of this country, were a little angery too, which is why they had a revolution. Where would we be without them? -More importantly, where will the kids be years from now? I tell you one thing, kids from the communist era don't care much for Lenin. Don't believe me? Ask one how they feel about it...
Rating: Summary: The narrow-minded will never get it Review: Reading what that person said about the IRA makes me want to get sick all over his narrow-minded features. His view is that the IRA attacked the UK for no reason as if British paratroopers were not putting bullet holes in Catholic adults and children to keep them under control in the North. I guess it is okay for the British government to sanction murder on the streets but not okay for some Irish rebels to hit back? The British government should be lucky to see an end to the violence. The arrogance of little peeved waa-waa kenny wanting the IRA to now fully disarm, after years of non-terrorist activity, should also be met by the UK defense forces doing the same thing. Care to disarm YOUR force in the North and at home kenny-wenny? It is not even on the table is it? What are you going to do with the thousands of dead irish catholics murdered at the hands of the British army? Hide them behind the couch? The concession has been made by the IRA so face up to your job boy and move on. It is narrow-minded people like this that cause terrorism to continue. Thank God that Tony Blair would snubb him down for making those kind of comments.
Rating: Summary: Please verify your info Mr Moore. Review: It is striking how much of the info Mr Moore spews out is not substantiated and actually disproven. On that basis alone I give this book a 1 as there are some good things about it and it is after all entertaining. What strikes me funny also is how many of the Moore Radicals posting and giving the book a 5 don't even rate the book but insult and degrade the people who didn't like the book or didn't give it a high enough review. That shows the audience this type of drivel is targeted at. It could have done a better job on many accounts, take Enron for example, no doubt a travesty, yet he completely overlooks Bill Clintons association with Ken lay and his associations with Enron which are well documented. This shows Moore has an agenda which is not about being "Fair and Balanced" (please don't sue). He overlooks Global Crossing, overlooks Al Gore's derailment of the Security Commissions attempt to revamp Airline security after debating the issue with Airline Executives and many of those recommendations, taken from the exact same draft are NOW implimented.... He overlooks the Fact that Haliburton received many NO BID contracts from the Clinton administration and that Mr.Bill was also associated with that company. Well I could go on but many of the things he brings up can easily be pointed at anyone who has sat in the white house. In other words the book is pretty useless unless you just blindly want justification for your hate, if that s the case you'll find satisfaction here.
Rating: Summary: Funny . . . But Moore Needs to Get His Facts Straight Review: I really want Michael Moore to have intellectual honesty--I'm extremely liberal, I agree with most of his opinions, I find him funny--but this book is, like "Stupid White Men," worthless. Moore seems to have fallen into the Ann Coulter trap (although he isn't quite as bad as Coulter, thank god): if it makes people laugh, it doesn't matter if it's not true. Take Moore's claim that Bin Laden's family was allowed to fly out of the country while all other flights were grounded. This has been repeated again and again, by everyone from writers like Moore to some of my friends, yet it is utter rubbish--it did not happen. Yet Moore, demonstrating quite clearly the reason why serious authors undergo peer review, repeats it again. He invents citizen complaints brought on by the Patriot Act. Moore, by resorting to fabricated abuses of it, helps those in support of it by essentially discrediting his own argument. There are enough real problems with the Patriot Act to argue against it; inventing new evidence is not only dishonest but damaging to those working against it, all of whom should reject Moore for what amounts to an attack on their cause. I am vehemently opposed to the Patriot Act, and I will no longer read or give money to a man such as Moore who is willing to harm the movement against it simply to make money on book sales. He invents facts about 9/11, Bush, the Patriot Act, the Iraq War, and in the process provides ammunition for those on the right who oppose the very opinions he seeks to promote. Michael Moore is a destructive influence to the left. To be effective, political humor cannot be divorced from political fact--the two support each other and add power to an argument. Moore is an insult to both myself and every other intelligent person who shares his views of the current government.
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore Brings up some excellent questions Review: Michael Moore brings up some excellent questions I would love Bush to answer in this book. Whether you agree with all his opinions or not, its worth reading to shed light on the kinds of things that most of the public is completely unaware of, such as the Bush families dealings with the Saudi Royal family.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but repetitive Review: Mr. Moore makes some interesting points in this book. The writing quality, however, is poor. I read Mr. Moore for the same reason I read Ms. Coulter - I enjoy seeing what they are going to say next. Mr. Moore should have edited this book for less repetition and more self-depreciating humor, at least for those of us who do not agree with most of his political positions and whom he is (presumably) trying to educate.
Rating: Summary: You can't make it, but buy my book because I can! Review: Michael Moore is making his millions by telling you that you can't make it. The fact that people are buying into this idea of his is laughable. The over-arching theme in this book is that the american dream, is no longer attainable because of the Bushes and Republicans. Oh boy! Mr. Moore is a poster-child for losing the american dream of making... um... lots... of money... on... the backs... of hard... working... Ooops. In any event, this book is chock full of ficticious facts, unsupported conclusions, and his entire foundation that the book is built upon is quickly destroyed by a quick lexus-nexus search. Read if you like, but you'd probably find more interesting information in ANY book that tells you "You can do it!" rather than this. Why pay to have someone tell me I can't make it, when I could watch any democratic contender tell me that for free on TV. Then again, being that it's just liberals that are open-minded who buy this book, they will surely buy a book from a conservative too- just to balance their knowledge intake. Right?
