Summary: Did Cornwell Really Write This?
Review: Blow Fly was so boring I'm hard pressed to think Patricia Cornwell really wrote it.

Summary: Sorely Disappointed
Review: I have been a fan of Cornwell and Scarpetta for a long time, and was just dying for something new! I couldn't possibly have been more diappointed. All the classic mistakes, she would start going in an intersting direction then plod on to something that was out in left field and not even pertinent. I knew it was useless when I had 20 pages left and the story had more unanswered questions than answered ones...and I didn't care. She rushed the ending, seriously wrapping up one of the most interesting pieces of the story in one and a half pages, possibly trying to make it a cliff hanger, but definitely missing the mark. I had no interest or caring for any of the main characters or what was happening to them, and Scarpetta was a washed out bland, version of herself. Patricia Cornwell's style of writing is still as good as ever, but this book lacked substance and is well beneath her ability. I agree with the other review, I wish I could get my $22 back and read the paperback.

Summary: Wait for the paperback or don't even bother
Review: I have read all the previous Kay Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell and I was really disappointed with this one. After I finished the book, which was tedious, I had no idea what the book was about or why it was written. The characters were disjointed, storyline disconnected... not like her other novels. I had a difficult time plodding through this book, but I kept waiting for all the loose ends to be tied up (or at least make sense). Unfortunately, that never happened. I should have waited for the paperback.

Summary: Good One
Review: I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I had trouble putting it down. For everyone who is complaining about it, I would like to see him or her attempt to even write one chapter! It surprised me and I definitely would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Very disappointing
Review: I have been a Patricia Cornwell fan for years, but this book is a huge disappointment. It's an author's right to experiment with his or her style, but by going to a 3rd person narrative Cornwell ends up spending more time in the mind of a hairy serial killer than she does with Kay Scarpetta. And the aforementioned hairy killer and his brother have SO outlived their welcome in this series. Bring people back from the dead - I don't care - make one of your main characters (Lucy)an unstable freak - your call - but Ms. Cornwell, move on from the French twins, put Kay Scarpetta back in the driver's seat, and start fresh.

Summary: Great Book!!
Review: Great book especially if you are a fan of the series and Kay Scarpetta. It will not disappoint!! Also, the book provides information if you are new to the series. But it is worthwhile to get the other books and read them first.

Summary: Certainly Different
Review: I am always amazed when I see book reviews ranging from 1 to 5 on any work, particularly a work by a popular novelist. Ms Cornwell is again trying something a bit different in this book by featuring the other characters to a large degree. Granted , there is also a bit too much rehashing of previous books (something necessary for a new Cornwell reader, but it certainly is a bit much for the true fans).

ALl that aside, I thought this was a terrific book and I hope the people reading reviews are not put off by the "1's"... It has pace, due to short chapters. The story moves along a bit slowly, but I think Ms Cornwell is deliberately doing that to make the work more substantial in plot and character development. I thought the technique worked.

I have enjoyed the last three in this series, all of which have been panned in many circles. They all are certainly different in tone and style , but I enjoy the seriousness of the writing. It has become more personal to me.

Summary: Thank God Scarpetta is back!!
Review: After that absulotely ridiculous Isle of Dogs. I swore I would never read her again. But, she;s back where we want her to be with the Scarpetta series. A god read!!

Summary: NOT HER BEST........................................
Review: Although well-written, this is not the usual Kay Scarpetta novel. Scarpetta takes a backseat to some of the other usual characters--Lucy, Marino, etc.

Much slower than previous Scarpetta novels, this tale takes the reader on a connect-the-dots journey leading from the last Scarpetta book to the present, attempting to rekindle the reader's memory of past happenings. Scarpetta has fallen from grace, and is no longer esconced in her custom built Richmond VA mansion. No longer politically connected, she has been fired from her job as Chief ME and has relocated to Florida, working as a consultant. Still considered tops in her field, her assistance is requested from a Louisiana coroner--to investigate a "cold case" that had previously been closed. It soon becomes clear that this case is related to the current serial killings/abductions taking place in the same area.

Beyond being pleasantly shocked in the beginning of this novel, Scarpetta fans will be disappointed in the what has always been the main character's lack of presence. Personally, I was also disappointed with the ending of this book. Did the timer go off, Ms. Cornwell?

I'm hoping that PC will redeem herself in the next Scarpetta tale. It would help if they came in a more timely fashion--less effort would then have to be spent refreshing the reader's memory.

Summary: don't BLOW your time & money, FLY away from this book.
Review: I have always looked forward to Cornwell's books and was happy to learn that there was a new Scarpetta novel available.

There were so many threads in this book and absolutely nothing was carried to completion. One bad dude is hidden away in the swamp land and seems uncatchable. In a matter of the last few pages, he is killed. His hostage who seemed to be a credible character is free with no heroics on her part. A brave little boy is used by the villains - but for what. I couldn't tell. The second bad guy escapes prison with no one even noticing and we are left on the string about what happens to him. I suppose he is resting up before he makes another run on Scarpetta.

A hero from books long past shows up alive and he is so aloof that it seems that he broods a lot but doesn't do much about people he cares(?)about. I would like to know more about his time in exile.

I ended the book and decided this was just a warm up to her REAL book. I certainly won't buy another Cornwell book till I hear a better recommendation than I would give this one.
