Summary: This book is like to much Halloween Candy, it makes you sick
Review: It seems as if all of the English teachers love the book and write multi-paragraph essays over how good it is, and the other reviews are from stupid teenagers that write in one word sentences, and don't know what they are talking about, however I am an honor student and have read the book and got an A on my essay, yet I still can't enjoy such a "illusive and illuminative piece of litature." People describe the imagery as "sparkling", however most people can't relate to this "sparkling" junk. After all that's what it is. Junk; just words that make no since, and make you think twice about why so many copies have been sold. My theory is that the people who by this worthless piece of litature have no lives, so they indulge into the "beautiful" life of Antonia only wishing theirs can be half as good, but as an English teacher thier life will never be as good or as full-filling unless they can relize that their is nothing special in this book. It's nothing but Destiny, Change, Memories, and a bunch of people who cant move on in their lives. So think about the book, maybe reread it so you can see that its not a book but someones super-special documentary. Think about it.

Summary: praise to willa cather
Review: WOW! What a great book! The essence of pioneer life was captured perfectly in this book. May Ms. Cather be awarded with writing one of the books that has changed me the most thus far. For my freshman english class we had to "sell" a book. I could not have pick a better read! Many of my friends told of its monotonous and slow plot. I couldn't disagree with them more. Though not a cliff hanger or adventurous it had an amazing simplicity that made it beautiful. As Antonia is once described to change one and leave an ever lasting immpression, so does the book leave this too. This is truley a piece of great literature.

Review: such a beautiful work as this book should not be defamed by some petulant teenagers who are upset that they HAD to read a book that wasn't Steven King. this book is not so much about what happens, as it is about a passion, and a woman's mystery as expansive as the prairie it is set in. the descriptions, if you actually read them and dont just skim, take you to another place and time, and that is the art of writing. willa cather certainly had the art in her....

Summary: Beautiful
Review: Although I consider O' Pioneers to be Willa Cather's best and most important work, My Antonia continues to be a favorite of mine. I've read it twice in my life and enjoyed it just as much as a teenager as I did during my recent reading. (I'm 25).

Review: I was never "forced" read this in school, which is probably a good thing. I don't think I could have enjoyed it at that point in my life. The descriptions, the characters, the emotions, and the overall positive tone of the book were what made it wonderful for me. And the lyrical writing!

Summary: A memorable read
Review: I did a term paper on the works of Willa Cather in high school; this novel one remains with me to this day. Cather's prose are magnificent; with just a few words she captures the loneliness and sadness of lost youth and prairie life. Don't be put off by comments about the slowness of the novel. This was written at a time when life moved at a much slower pace and television had yet to ruin our patience. Stephan King it's not, but given the chance, it will provide a reader with a very memorable and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend it. (And remember to, that's saying alot since I was forced to read it in high school!)

Review: If you are into extreme description in your books, this one is for you.It is long and drawn out... come on, its about life on the plains.... However... the last line was amazing... if i didn't HAVE to read it and disect it in English, it might have been more tolerable.

Summary: THE WORST book I have ever read
Review: This book has got to be the worst book ever writen. It is so slow and boring that i could hardly stay awake while reading it. It was on a required reading list for school so i had to read it but if I had my choice about reading it I would not have read past the second page. The only reason i am giving this book a rating of one star is because they don't a zero star rating. This book was horrible and a waste of paper and money. Don't spend your money on this book buy another one worth reading.

Summary: WOW!!! NO ONE CAN WRITE ABOUT LIFE ON THE PLAINS 1/2 AS WELL
Review: I read this years ago, but still remember the warmth & sincerity of Jim's narrative. And who could forget Antonia Shimerda and Lena Lingard and Tiny Soderball? This is not the sort of novel that say a fan of King or Grisham would like, but Cather wrote from the heart and her stories resonate in my life and I'll remember her characters until I die while I'll forget most of the modern bestseller rubbish that's printed nowadays. Overall, this is a wonderful look into the lives of America's pioneers.

Summary: Antonia is timeless, forever an American heroine . . .
Review: My Antonia has inspired me since I first picked it up at the age of 14. I couldn't put it down, and since that time, I have read it at least five times. Because of my continueing wonderful experience with this book, I am surprised at other negative reviews I have seen, like the ones that precede mine. I can only attribute that to lack of patience and refinement or the age of television, which has contributed to both. The book is timeless, the heroism of Antonia is unquestionable. She is the embodiment of the resilience of the human spirit and the adventure of the often intangible American Dream. Her resilience and strength of person are as heroic as it comes. I feel sorry for those who have missed the point. They've missed an important one.
