Rating: Summary: Another Roberts Winner Review: Sam and Julie's four-year-old daughter, Olivia, was in the house the night her mother was murdered. She tried to find her mother and finds her father bending over her mother's bloody body. She hides in a closet where she was later found by a policeman, Frank Brady. Although her mother's twin sister, Jamie, and her husband, David, would have loved to have Olivia live with them, it was decided she should go to live with her grandparents who run River's End, a lodge and campground on Washington state's Olympic Peninsula far from the media circus. Livvy thrives in the safe environment provided by her loving grandparents. Loving nature, she goes to college majoring in resource science and returns to River's End to open a naturalist center. Twenty years after the murder, Sam Tanner's parole has continued to be denied thanks in large large part to the testimony of Frank Brady and Olivia's aunt, Jamie. Stricken with a terminal illness and anticipating release, Sam contacts bestselling true-crime author Noah Brady to finally tell his side of the story. Noah just happens to be the son of Frank Brady and has long been interested in the case; and, particularly in Livvy, who he has had contact with several times in the past 20 years. Noah knows he will have to get all sides of the story, not just Sam's which will mean seeing Livvy again. When Noah sees Livvy, the attraction is still there but little does he know that in his quest to tell her father's story, her life will be in danger for there is one person who knows the truth of what happened that night 20 years before. RIVER'S END is Nora Roberts at her very best!
Rating: Summary: Lots of plot mistakes, but still a wonderful reading! Review: As another reader said, this is a good book, but it takes too long to actually begin. The whole book, of almost 450 pages takes 140 to really start, and that was the really first mistake Nora Roberts commited. The whole story develops wonderfully. The reader is kept reading, reading and wanting nothing more but to read the book, and you just feel you're reading one of the best books ever. The second problem is: Nora makes the most terrible mistake when dealing with a murder book: develops grately some characters and forget others. The result? Soon the reader knows who the killer is. And to make things even worse, the reason for the killer to have done is already known since the beginning... What's left for the reader to enjoy, then? We can now just watch what will happen to all the characters. By the end of the book Nora commits the third mistake: she wrote scenes that we are tired of seeing: woman that hates man decides he's the man of her life, woman regreting what has done too late, when man is already dying etcetera. But the overquality is nice, and the book is a good reading. It was a perfect entertainment to me, even knowing everything and the plot seeming a little trite. But that's OK. Nora is always Nora. Said that, just read the book and have fun! Marco Aurelio.
Rating: Summary: Heart breaking & Heart warming Review: What can I say about this novel, besides how great it was... The whole story broke my heart, made me laugh and sucked me into a great pager turner. I love the description of the wild life and scenery, it was really relaxing. The characters - they were great, I felt what they felt, I saw what they saw. I thought I knew who the murderer was, I was positive I knew who the murderer was, and yet I was so wrong! I read other reviews, some who say they knew who the killer was right from the beginning, and others who made the wrong choice like me or just didn't know... I can't say I believe anyone knew from the beginning who "dunnit" I just can't see how. Sam & Julie met on a movie set, and from the start were in love. They got married and had a daughter, Olivia, and all seems well. Sam starts to do drugs and then jealousy, feelings of betrayl and deceit start to set in. One night every thing starts to spin out of control. All Sam knows is his Julie is dead and that he was holding her and that his little girl saw too much. Sam is put in prison for the murder of his wife by detective Frank Brady. Twenty years later Noah, the son of Frank wants to write a book about the Tanner murder, but runs into some rip-tides with the two that knew anything Sam Tanner and mainly Olivia. This novel has everything, a good plot, suspense, drama, love trauma and romance - a great novel and a must read!
Rating: Summary: river's end Review: this was not the best book i've read. it seemed to drag on for sooooo long before anything significant happened. i guess i was just expecting more though. i was hoping for a romantic/suspense story, but because of that, i was a little disappointed. nothing happened the first 300 pages, then when it started picking up, it just sort of ended. and because a previous reviewer had already revealed the ending, it didn't really keep my attention. noah, as the hero, was completely lovable. he's completely charming and adorable. but olivia got a bit irritating. she didn't display much emotion at all, not even at the end when facing her mother's killer. she was portrayed as strong and courageous at the beginning as a 4 year old, but then sort of lost it along the way and just developed into a cold cynic with not much depth or emotion. this was a very slow moving book. it just went on and on with noah researching for his book (WAY too much time on that) while Roberts could have spent that time on developing the adult noah and olivia further. a lot of this story was unbelievable however. i just can't believe that a ten year old boy (noah) would pay any attention to a 4 year old he saw on television and remember her. and i have an even harder time believing that an 18 year old would develop any interest whatsoever for a 12 year old. this book just did not keep my interest. Roberts' *Born In...* trilogy was much better. and Doris Mortman's *Out of Nowhere* is a much better romantic suspense novel. i enjoyed the dialogue between noah and olivia though, especially the one in the forest. the ending was a bit confusing for me, it just sort of stopped. i mean, olivia's father dies, and then an hour later, she's planning her wedding! i had been expecting something more thrilling but there was nothing to that effect. the romance between noah and olivia was cute and Roberts would have been better off playing that angle more rather than tying in murder. it was an ok read, but i found myself continuing to read only so i could maybe convince myself that something exciting was going to happen soon. well, nothing happened.
Rating: Summary: One of Nora's Best Review: Julie McBride and Sam Tanner were Hollywood's sweethearts. Married several years and with several Oscar nominations between them, they've recently become fodder for the gossip columns with Sam's reported drug use and rumors of Julie's infidelity. When Julie is found slashed to death in their palatial home, Sam is taken into custody and charged with her murder. He's eventually convicted and sent to prison - the first 15 years without parole. Sam and Julie's four-year-old daughter, Olivia, was in the house the night her mother was murdered. Hearing screams, she tried to find her mother and saw the signs of a struggle and her father bending over her mother's bloody body. Frightened, she fled and hid where she was later found by a policeman, Frank Brady. Brady tenderly cared for Olivia even as he reluctantly questioned her about what she saw. Although her mother's twin sister, Jamie, and her husband, David, would have loved to have Olivia live with them, it was decided she should go to live with her grandparents who run River's End, a lodge and campground on Washington state's Olympic Peninsula far from the paparazzi and media circus. When Noah sees Livvy, the attraction is still there but little does he know that in his quest to tell her father's story, her life will be in danger for there is one person who knows the truth of what happened that night 20 years before. RIVER'S END is Nora Roberts at her very best -- luscious romance, gripping suspense, and superb storytelling combine for a magnificent and exciting novel. Reading just doesn't get much better than this
Rating: Summary: Another Winner Review: From the beginning of this story, NR has you hooked on who the killer is. You're taken though Olivia's life and you get a false sense of security for her safety. The seed of love is planted in Olivia when she is just a child but as she grows so does that love, without her awareness. Fate keeps her and Noah linked until the end. This is where she confronts her demon and is saved by her knight in shining armor all at once. This story will keep you interested and entertained until the end.
Rating: Summary: A great story, strong leading man and romance to boot.... Review: What a great book - I thought I had it figured out - but was way wrong. Who could not resist Noah, he was witty and real - where Olivia was cool and harder to warm up to - understandably. Nice characters, great locations, fun dialogue and wow it zipped along! Thanks for the ride!
Rating: Summary: Pleasantly Surprised! Review: A friend gave me this book after I finished Carnal Innocence (I really liked that one), but I was dubious of River's End being that I don't like mystery novels. From the beginning I was in love with Noah, even though Olivia was sometimes annoying, I loved them as a couple, and it was a great setting... And I didn't even see the murderer coming! Must read for Nora Roberts fans.
Rating: Summary: Hooked Again! Review: Once again Nora Roberts has sucked me into a story. I first started reading her romance novels, and so this was the first romance/suspense novel that I had read. Everything about this book jumps out and grabs you. Not only did I read it, but I lived it. I just couldn't put the book down and it kept me guessing throughout the book. I laughed with the characters and felt my heart break with them also. Once again Nora has done it.
Rating: Summary: A book I can relate! Review: I have become a true reader of NR. I loved the characters in Rivers End. The love that blossomed between Noah and Olivia totally got me hooked! I am young and I loved the fact that the characters were young too. The suspence and the pointing of fingers is what I love. I always try to figure out who dunnit, I am always wrong, it keeps you pointing fingers at one or two charaters! The setting is awesome and the explaination of the surrondings is great, I can actually picture every tree and color! This is a must read and I wouldn't bluff!
