Rating: Summary: Enlightening, funny look at what's wrong with our country Review: Michael Moore has done it again! Here is an entertaining book that makes the bitter truth a little easier to read. It's a very funny look at the ugly manipulations of the corporate takeover of the US. Every chapter provides plenty of food for thought.
Rating: Summary: The best catalyst for awakening is satire Review: Michael Moore is a contemporary incarnation of Mark Twain or Dean Swift: he punctures windy talking heads and skewers political bosses with his wit. But behind the wit is a good deal of head knowledge and heart passion. In this latest book, he continues combining satire and analysis by taking some penetrating looks at, for example, education in this country, the disproportionality between haves and have-nots, the ineptitude of Bush & Co., and the promise of peace politics in the Middle East. Reading Moore not only makes you think; it makes you laugh, and it makes you mad. The three are a dynamite combination for getting off one's duff and doing something about the continued rule of stupid white men in this country and abroad. If you know anyone--a relative, an acquaintance, a colleague--who's smugly certain that everything in this country is as it should be, give them a copy of this book.
Rating: Summary: Chicken Soup for the 2002 Soul Review: A great, great book! If you're a little freaked out by the state of the world in 2002, Moore helps to put all the nuttiness in perspective. In these days of Enron et al, it's wonderful, uplifting, important reading.
Rating: Summary: Truth be Known Review: It is a rare opprotunity to be able to experience a critical view of popular beliefs with a rational, and even entertaining mind. Though at times Moore does cross the line of logic for a leaning towards angry wit, this book is exactly what the American people need to help put the real State of the Union in perspective. I would highly recommend this book, and also recommend buying many, many copies for those you love.
Rating: Summary: He's done it again! Review: Michael Moore has become an icon for all people who care about ordinary Americans, the little guy who works hard trying to keep home and hearth together. His voice is a beacon of light in the dark world of the reactionary right! Moore successfully tells Americans what the truth is regarding the beliefs, motives, and actions of our 'stupid, white, men' leaders. If you care about the average American (and not just the rich and famous), if you believe in a level playing feel that supports ordinary Americans and not just the corporations and war machine, this book is for you. As to the reviewers on the right (who never read the book) but just sent in a review panning it, they will never understand what Moore is all about or what he is trying to say.
Rating: Summary: Democracy! Review: This book is a cry for democracy, for truth, justice and even the America Way. Michael Moore is obviously a huge fan of freedom and peoples' rights, he is a patriotic American who loves his country and hates the thing sthat are done in it's name. His style is easy to read and yet packed full of detail and research. Buy this book if you love democracy and want to know what your politicians are really doing for you.
Rating: Summary: Concerned About The Future of the USA? Review: This book is a must-read for all concerned citizens, and most certainly a must-read before the next election! Again, Michael Moore is willing to stand behind the truth. Even if you voted for Bush (and most of us didn't) it's time you read exactly who you voted into office. I guarantee, your stomach will churn! This book will be passed around for years to come!
Rating: Summary: Interesting! Review: Michael Moore clear's away all the, smoke and mirrors, what is left is the reality of our society. I like it when I can read a book that talks about the way things really are rather then the way our society pretends them to be. It's important to have writer's like Mr. Moore. Just think if we did not. Could it be that everything we see is wrong?
Rating: Summary: If the truth hurts don't read this book. Review: This is a very funny book written before 9/11. So the attacks at Bush may seem unfair to some readers but if they're true must be looked at seriously if we call our country a democracy. People ranting about Moore being a Communist are just being silly and may I add not very intelligent. The definition of a Communist would not include the traits of men like Moore. The USA should not be afraid of it's own citizens checking what the people in power are doing. In fact we should be grateful and not call them Communists. We live in a great country and should make sure all it's citizens are cared for. All Michael Moore has done was show us that it's not the case at the moment. Am I glad he wrote the book? Yes. Do I wish it were untrue? You bet. Peace
Rating: Summary: Provocative Review: Actually a comment rather than review. You should read this book and make your own decisions. Michael Moore triumphs again. It is a difficult time to speak your mind if you are critical of our "American system". Truth couched in irreverent humor is a hallmark of this book. Read it, laugh, be afraid and think, if you dare.
