Rating: Summary: Michael Moore for President Review: Way to go Mike! Michael Moore is definately saying the things that need to be said. There is a leadership vacuum in the USofA and Michael is not afraid to stand-up and ask the questions that so many in the so called Democratic party are afraid to. Mike takes the Cheney/Bush/Ashcroft crowd to task and is truly a hero to the "silent majority" in this country.Buy the book...send a message. And let Mike know that you want him to run for President. Yes, it is a long shot, but none of the current potential Democratic candidates will have the guts to take on Bush the way he needs to be taken on. Michael Moore has already proven he's willing to fight the good fight. America's working class hero against the spoiled rich kid. Let me know what you think and I will begin drafting Michael Moore and we can start building the campaign. Think about it...We've got Bush, but America needs Moore!
Rating: Summary: Rght on Mike! Review: Michael Moore does it again, managing to tell it how it is. Despite what people might say, Mike is not anti-american, anti-patriotic...he just has the guts to stand up to a President that shouldn't even be in office, let alone have an 80% approval rating. His writing include everything from Bush stealing the election to Kenneth Lay and Enron -- Before Enron's disaster became a public issue. Moore makes politic enjoyable with his very own brand of wit. Definatly a book not to be missed. One last note I'd like to add..even if you dont agree with everything or anything Michael Moore says or thinks, you should read this book just so you can see issues from both sides of the spectrum. A 5-star book!
Rating: Summary: Wow... I laughed, I cried - this book is excellent! Review: As with all comedy, the funniest is the stuff that rings true. I read this book with mixed responses. Some pages made me laugh out loud. On others, I couldn't believe the things this man dug up! It is an insightful mixture of fact and comedy that everyone who cares at all about our country should be exposed to. Also, let me quickly respond to the majority of the negative reviews written here: Did you people even read the book? And what's with the comment that you need an IQ under 70? Oh, and Marxist? And Communist? And full of lies? Give me a break. Michael Moore has the nerve to speak his mind publicly and all most of these reviews have to say about it is about three lines of brainless insults. It makes you wonder who really has the low IQs. If you are reading these reviews before deciding if you should buy this book, please make sure you read ALL the reviews. A lot of intelligent people are saying positive things about it. Bottom line, READ THIS BOOK! It's fabulous. The world needs more people like Michael Moore.
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore exposes the weak underbelly of the beast Review: This has to be the scariest book since "Silence of the Lambs". The only problem is that "Stupid White Men" is true. Mike's book is the "Emperor's New Clothes" for the new Millennium. Our leaders are cloaking themselves as the protectors of the poor and weak while they are using their influence to let corporate America fleece them. I am glad someone is standing up and telling the truth. We need to be thankful that there are people like Michael around. Read this book and be very scared.
Rating: Summary: On the spot Review: Wonderful book! America as idea is second to none, the execution of that idea that is present today is just sad. Michael Moore brings up several things that should have nothing to do with the "best nation in the world". Today it no longer is no 1 and quite frankly I am happy not living there.
Rating: Summary: Great Stuff Review: This book is a terrific commentary on many of the things that are wrong and stupid in America today. I encourage everyone to read it, even those folks who will vehemently disagree. I also give a '5-Star' rating to many of the hilarious comments on this site from right-wing folks looking to drag down the book's rating. Keep it up, guys!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious, biting, timely - MM is my hero! Review: I applaud the brass Michael Moore has to go ahead with "Stupid White Men" in a time when it's apparently "un-patriotic" to speak up against "President" Bush and his Oil Brigade Band. The book is amazingly prescient, targeting Enron and the Middle East despite the fact he wrote this A YEAR AGO! From exposing Bush's cabinet for all its myriad Big Business conflicts-of-interest, to writing personal letters to Lil' Bush and Yassir Arafat amongst others, Moore takes no prisoners. Probably, since he points out so well, because we've already got two million locked up on minor possession charges. It's a ridiculous country in a ridiculous time, we need more crusaders like Michael Moore. If your liberal heart bleeds with pride, or you're just sick and tired of unchecked complacency with politics-as-usual, you need to pick up this book.
Rating: Summary: An Uncommonly Common Man Review: I love Michael Moore. I love the way he thinks. I love his common-sense perspective. He takes a confusing world and makes sense of it. "Stupid White Men" is a wonderful read. Who better to do an insightful critique of the white men who rule us than a white man? That Michael Moore is an accomplished writer is to his credit; however, it's his viewpoint, built on carefully cited facts, that dazzles. If you're tired of being spoon fed a media generated picture of reality that doesn't fit your world, if you have more questions than answers, and stupid answers at that, read "Stupid White Men." It informs with humor, it prods with humor, and it educates with humor. It inspires action and taking control of our political and human destinies. Michael Moore is swell.
Rating: Summary: This book is a satirical revelation regardless of Enron Review: Moore has really taken the leap. It's about time, in this sound-bite, corporate controlled media and political culture of ours that we can get an erudite, disturbing, and necessary critique of what our nation has become, and what the future holds if the average citizen doesn't get a clue or angry enough to experience a revolution of the mind. The quality of life on this planet-- economically, politically, and ecologically-- is endangered by the select few we all too often idolize or condone. If you are a true conservative, you value "freedom from" i.e. negative freedom. If you are a true liberal, you value "freedom to" i.e. positive freedom. Moore's book should appeal to readers of both viewpoints; it speaks to simple common sense about how democracy should be the true golden rule (when it sadly has not been that in a long, long, time). I would say that along with Pete Hamill's PIECEWORK, Moore's book depicts, analyzes, and critiques the state of modern American civilization better than any pundits on TV-- conservative or liberal-- can or dare to. Hopefully, a 21st century Great Awakening will ensue, before it is too late. Lastly, those who have trashed this book have a smug, nefarious agenda; either they have not read the book or they lack the capacity for introspection, reflection, and empathy (the same "elite" who didn't get Swift's "Modest Proposal" three centuries ago still exist-- how sad). The revolution will not be televised, especially if the title characters have a say in it. Thank God for Michael Moore! Read this book, and pass it on!
Rating: Summary: The truth shall set us free Review: Finally someone speaks the truth. Hopefully all of those who are purchasing the book read it not just for its humor but for the facts it conveys. These details are both revealing and shocking, not only in how our current "leaders" obtained their positions but also the extent to which these crimes extend. Mr. Moore, please keep up the good work and come to Dallas when you can. Kudos to Harper Collins for eventually releasing the book.
