Summary: haha Direct & In your face writing! Entertaining!
Review: I'd seen Bowling for Columbine so decided to take the plunge and order this. Reading the other reviews here at Amazon, really made me want to read it even more! haha

I read a chapter a day. I wanted to read it all at once. Thoroughly entertaining. Michael explains his views very simply and it's very easy to understand. I don't always agree with him (I'd say I do agree with him around 80% of the time) but it's all thought-provoking stuff. If you want to up your political knowledge, this is a must read. I found myself able to converse quite convincingly with the information I extracted from this book. He has a lengthy list of references at the back of the book. Thought-provoking it is indeed.

Summary: Sensational - But does he mean it?
Review: The book treads a delicate line between humour and serious political comment, although it raises many important issues, it's sometimes unclear if the points are meant to be taken seriously or not - at several points I found myself wondering if the book is trying to defuse peoples concerns by making them into a big joke.

The book does contain 21 pages of notes and sources, however some of these don't actually check out - eg on page 175 "We're number 1 in rapes by a factor of almost 3 times our nearest competitor Canada" - looking up the Human Development report (freely available on the net) - the US figures are actually 3 times *lower* than Canada and Canada is a long way from being number 1.

An entertaining book, and a quick read, but I think it's one of those rare cases where the film is better than the book.

Summary: Halarious book, but all for the wrong reasons.
Review: This book is really funny! No, not in that way. It's funny because he only makes himself look like a stupid white man. When 50 Cent was saying how he loved her like the fat kid love cake, was he talking about you, Michael??

Summary: Shiva's Fire by Suzanne Fisher Staples
Review: 'To dance with Shiva is to know freedom from the cycle of birth and death.' Parvati could dance in fire and interact with wild animals. As a child in southern India, Parvati would watch intently as her father's sandalwood statue of Shiva Natarafa danced in front of the fire, and she would long to stomp and twirl with the ancient Hindu god. Parvati was believed to be bad luck to her village because of the destructive floods that occurred on the day of her birth. After years of being confined to her home, Parvati was accepted to the Gurukulam and started her training to become a true devadasi, devoting her life to dancing.
This book was so good that I've read it three times, each time just as enjoyable as the last. The author depicted life in India as if she had once lived there herself. The truth is, she had worked in India as a UPI foreign correspondent; and my guess is that she picked up a lot of ideas from her work. The author's descriptions of Parvati's life are incredibly realistic, as exemplified here: 'suddenly she was snatched upward with a sharp jolt to her shoulder as Meenakshi plucked her from the fire by one arm, lifting her clear of the flames.' Staples involves the reader in what is going on in the story and makes him or her feel like he is right in Parvati's time period. I also like the way the author used authentic Indian words during the story, then included a glossary that defines each word. Staples has also written Angel on the Square, inspired by her travels in Russia.
I highly recommend Shiva's Fire to anyone who likes reading about foreign culture, or just somebody seeking a good story. Shiva's Fire is an enthralling tale that persuades many to read it over and over again.

Summary: Good View from the Other Side
Review: I am not a liberal, nor am I a conservative, so I like to read books from both sides of the spectrum. Michael Moore truly represents the ideal left-winger. His books are informative, exposing, but above all else, funny and entertaining. I am not a big fan of Al Franken, and some other left wingers, but I believe Michael Moore is what all liberals should strive to be. I didn't necessarily agree with everything that he said, and I believe that being too far too any direction is dangerous; I believe he is well-spoken and is an excellent writer. Also it seems that he is behind 100% everything that he says. He never just says something because it is a liberal belief and since he is a liberal he must believe it. He truly backs everything he says with all of his being. this is something that should be admired from both sides of the spectrum. I felt the best chapters in the books were the ones dealing with education and the environment, 2 things that i am particularly passionate about. So anyone interested in reading a well-written, hilarious social commentary, pick up this book.

Summary: eye opening
Review: I was never very political until I read this book. It made me realize that there are people out there like Moore who are a threat to individual liberty. He has no respect for the Constitution or for the contributions of people who do not agree with him.

I voted for Gore last time. As bad as Bush is, I'll probably vote for him, since the Democrats have really gone off the deep end this cycle. They won't dissociate themselves from people like Moore. They think it's "funny" without reservation, just because the humor helps their cause. They don't see and don't care that it causes damage to the quality of public discourse.

Just watch - this review will get bad ratings from people just because they disagree with my politics.

This is symptomatic of the Mooreheads.

Summary: I'd give this negative infinity stars if it were possible.
Review: The only stupid white man is the man who wrote this book. It was awful getting through it. If anyone's looking for a new form of torture, this is best.

Summary: An Eye-Opener
Review: I thank a friend of mine for giving me this book to read. I was pro Bush at the time and didn't have a clue. This book is funny, satirical, and sarcastic; but it's also honest and to the point. It's a must read for every American, especially for those who haven't got a clue about what's going on and where we're headed.

Summary: Chips and Beer Politics
Review: If I wanted to convince someone that the country is headed in the wrong direction (and has been for ages), this is not the book I'd hand them. A highly emotional, frequently sloppy rant, it does sometimes hit the mark, but it more often resembles what one might hear in a barbershop full of liberal guys on speed. If there were still barbershops.

It does demonstrate two things: 1) The difference between a leftist and a liberal, and 2) if you want a bestseller, you come across like a liberal version of Rush Limbaugh, armed with name calling and ridicule. The politics are different, but the techniques aren't.

Given the availability of a lot of intelligent (not necessarily intellectual), similarly oriented books on the various subjects this one touches upon, it's telling that one by a clown gets the most readers.

If Moore looked more presentable, he might get elected president. We're ready for someone like him.

Summary: MORE facts than most right-wing books! (and humor in parts)
Review: Lots of unusual perspectives which make some sense as you think about them, and others that don't. Q/C was apparently absent but there's genius and moronity in here. Unfortunately a lot of the less clever stuff is up front. Facts are generally facts, which is good - that is, they are documented, not made up or coming from fake surveys, as is the case for many of the right-wing writers. Yes, this'll make people uncomfortable. Yes, it's worth it. But start from the middle and come back to the beginning!
