Rating: Summary: Wake Up Call for America Review: Michael Moore is Cassandra crying on the steps of the US Capitol. America is in disturbing shape and it's all due to stupid white men because that's who has been running the government forthe last 200 years. The CEOs have taken the country away from the man in the street. This is a funny book, but unfortunately, it's true. As for the other side, they are so busy hating the Clintons, they don't seem to realise their guy is in power. Of course, he stole it so sureptiously, maybe they haven't found out yet.
Rating: Summary: Banned Book Survives--"451" Denied. Enlighten The Masses. Review: This outstanding, non-stop, Enlightened rant against Ignorance, Racism and the over-all Decline of American decency and Literacy was Banned by the U.S. government. However, the book survived Bureaucracy, Theocracy and other silliness to Educate the masses. Michael Moore has put into writing what the American people are thinking....well, at-least the Americans who know how to read. Moore attacks Illiteracy, Incompetence, Racism, the Corporate buyout of America--at the Governmental level, and he also devotes a chapter to informing us how corporations are plying their wares amongst the children in schools, so we can produce little automatons called "Consumers." He shows the American people that our children's new Mantra shall be "Must buy [insert Name-Brand]...." This book explains, in-detail the Corporate take-over of America, in November 2000. Fortunately, one man has the...guts...to stand up and lay out the facts, regarding our current political situation in the good ol' U.S. This book will infuriate most readers, most-likely sending them off on an information-gathering expedition, to attempt to counter Moore's statements (which is probably his secret plan ;-) Personally, being related to a former U.S. President, who was shot for espousing Anti-Ignorance and Anti-Racist agendas, I concur with Mr. Moore. My Wife, and Michael Moore have convinced me. If the Democrats do not get this mess cleaned up, I am voting Green, from now on. I strongly suggest that anyone who thinks for themselves, or treasures BOOKS should acquire this wonderful, educational rant on Politics, and other issues quickly leading to The Decline of Western Civilization. "Stupid White Men" explains the Library Funding cuts, Executed by the "President," as well. I will strongly recommend this book to everyone...until Corporate America buys me out, too.
Rating: Summary: Courageous -will challenge any sense of American superiority Review: While flag-waving patriotic types pretend their country is a place where people "make their dreams come true", others, like Michael Moore, challenge assumptions and examine paradigms of exlusion and conformity. Why are so many Americans afraid to admit the horrors their country has worked upon innocent people on every continent? Why? And is it really so scary to ask why rich people are running everything, why Women are treated like animals, why Muslim Americans are treated like a priori criminals??? Those who fear to ask questions are those who are making life miserable for the Other - and people like Chomsky, Arundhati Roy, Ted Rall, and Michael Moore have the courage to speak up for them, to make these other voices heard. Buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Scary and True Review: Stupid White Men...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the NationBy the end of the first chapter one would think that they had found the converse to Rush Limbaugh based on all the "Bush Bashing". By the end of the book one realizes, unlike Limbaugh, Moore is not one sided on all issues as he is equally critical of Clinton, Gore and the entire Democratic Party. The subject matter is kept light by Moore's use of humor. One sometimes wonders whether what they are reading is written for the sake of humor or is factual. Once I came to the "Notes and Sources" section in the back of the book I realized that the book is based on extensive research. Some sections may not retain your interest as much as other sections, but the book is well worth the read to the end. His views on the justice system, political parties, health care, environment, education, nuclear weapons, legislators and segregation are concerning, scary and true.
Rating: Summary: The Bush Administration Conspiracy Review: This book is funny, but the message is serious. The Bush Administration is the most dangerous disorganized group in the United States, pitted against civil liberties and political and economic democracy. They are intent on redistributing wealth from the poor to the richest. With their environmentally destructive policies there soon will be nothing left for their loyal NRA members to kill.
Rating: Summary: Good, but also can scare the pants off you. Review: I purchased this book as an attempt to balance the effects of also purchasing 'Slander', and frankly, I am taken aback by the thorough illustration of what our country is headed for. While I consider myself a member of neither party, I tend to be more Republican than Democrat when it comes to the majority of issues. Be that as it may, after finishing this book, I am nothing short of dismayed at the state of our nation, yet it's our greatness as a nation that allows ideas like this to be expressed. Well written, researched, and incisive, it will also scare the bejesus out of you if you think seriously about the road this work has us traveling down. (and we ARE on said road, no question. It doesn't take a PHD) I would recommend it, but be prepared. It doesn't paint a pretty picture in the least, nor does it give you confidence that things are getting better.
Rating: Summary: IF GEORGE WALKER BUSH IS YOUR GOD - DON'T BUY THIS BOOK Review: If George W. Bush is like a God to you - don't read this book. If you are in the sizeable majority who feel otherwise - don't miss it! An extremely accurate, in depth account of the November, 2000 presidential election and the beginning of the presidential administration of "Dubya". While more than half of this book dwells in depth on that one topic there are many other excursions - back to the time of Slick Willy and around the horn. Stupid White Men is to be found in the Humor section of bookstores. It belongs there. But it also belongs in the Political Science section. From the first chapter you will be engulfed in laughter while simultaneously groaning at the havoc created by Stupid White Men (a term which, I should note, does not include all of us). Coverage of Election, 2000 (Florida in particular) is the most comprehensive coverage I have seen anywhere, bringing forth many election details not generally known to the public at large. I bought this book with the intention of reading it and then forwarding it to my son. I ended up staying up until 4 AM to finish it and then, having decided this was one I needed to keep, bought another copy for my son. A tome well worth the price, but be careful to whom you lend it if you wish to see it again.
Rating: Summary: A waste of time Review: Another irrational diatribe guised in the veil of reason. Worth a read just for the benefit of learning how *not* to debate. If you are inclined to the "Moorean" philosopy, why don't you (rather than purchasing this book) just give it away to something you believe in. Or better yet, donate it to something that you *don't* believe in. You might get an idea of how taxpayers feel.
Rating: Summary: Outrage Unleashed Review: Mr. Moore is really on target with this funny but scathing attack on American politics. This fact-packed book takes aim at our corrupt political system and the huge corporations that call the shots in Washington. This book has only deepened my conviction that the American political system needs a multitude of parties instead of the two special-interest ridden, homogenous parties we have today. The only reason I can't give this book 5 stars is because it treats the American people's loss of freedom in too lighthearted a manner. If you want to know who really controls America---READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: State Of The Nation: The Way It Is, The Way It Ought To Be Review: "Stupid White Men", a book I enjoyed very much, is a funny, satirical expose' on the state of our nation. It tells us, through Michael Moore's eyes, the way it is. I recommend it to every American. And, although I don't have a dog in this race, I think everyone who reads "Stupid White Men" should go on to read the book that tells us, through using West Point as a metaphor for our Nation, the way it out to be. I found this book by Norman Thomas Remick, "West Point:....Thomas Jefferson", to be the corollary to Michael Moore's book, "Stupid White Men", and I got it right here on Amazon.com.
