Summary: Milking That GM Cow
Review: Nowhere near the power or acute targeted anger of "Downsize This!." His films "Roger & Me" started it all, and everything from "Canadian Bacon" to "The Big One" to "Pets or Meat" on film followed soon after, with the book "Downsize This!" taking it to the literary stream. "Stupid White Men" has a few enlightening moments but for the most part falls so far short of "Downsize This!" that it must be embarrasing for the big guy. Stick with "Roger & Me" as his film masterpiece and "Downsize This!" as his best book. Skip "Stupid White Men" unless you can savor the few slanted but humorous bits that are entertaining in this book.

Summary: Good, but falls short of a Masterpiece
Review: I like Moore and find I agree with him on many things, including many (though not all) of the ideas contained within this book. He's able to get his points across in an informative manner that is generally quite entertaining. Two things keep me from giving this book the highest possible rating. First, Moore jumps frequently between solid suggestions and those that are obviously facetious. Unfortunately, some of his suggestions are just plausible enough that it's not clear whether Moore is meaning to be serious or facetious (generally speaking I hope it's the latter). Second, and a bigger concern, is the fact that I saw an obvious factual error in the book (the statement in Chapter 2 that Bush removed the DC license plates because they contained the words "Support D.C. Statehood." The actual license plates read "Taxation Without Representation," which many treat as being in support of D.C. statehood). Because I'm not in a position to review all the facts in his book, and given how much of this book relies on facts that I do not have the ready ability to verify, that I can find an obvious error makes me wonder whether I can rely on all his assertions.

Summary: A turn-off to the real liberals
Review: A convincing case might be constructed to stop globalization, replace the market economy with government-directed distribution, reward the disenfranchised rather than the so-called "merit" system (that ignores affirmative action---but this book is not it.

Mr. Moore is cynical, sarcastic, and antagonistic in his style. I consider myself a liberal, but I am turned off by the venom and hatred in this book. If we have issues with the System, let's present them logically and rationally. In all candor, I think conservative polemics are more persuasive than over-the-top ranting (and again, I consider myself a liberal).

Summary: The frosted side to the conservative flakes
Review: This is a much needed counterpoint to the rabid right. Michael Moore is a frothing liberal who can muster as much spit and lather as Rush or Ann or G. Gordon or any of those other radio, TV and print hatchet artists. Like these commentators, his arguments aren't really to be debated (although he at least provides sources that actually match up to what he says in his text), but to be soaked in, so you can gather the rightous fury that you need to actually motivate you out of your lounge chair and into doing something.

You can learn things from this book. Some of them are trivial (like George W. Bush's three arrests--I think he gets to hold the record among the 43 presidents on that score); some aren't (the U.S. is number one in the number of international human rights treaties not signed).

One thing Moore does that you would never see from his counterparts on the right is that he doesn't hesitate to criticize those of the liberal persuasion, as he is as damning of Clinton's environmental and business-friendly record as he is of Bush the Younger's. You certainly won't find strong criticism of Bush in the current political right bestseller, even though it is warranted.

This isn't a book to pass to your conservative minded friends, though, because not only are they going to dislike the message, they're going to hate the messenger and how he delivers the message. Keep this one to yourself and open it up every time you need another jolt to remind you why you need to be out there working the polls to make sure every vote is counted.

Summary: Socialist Garbage
Review: For anyone who is a socialist, a communist, or hates America, then this book is for you. For all the normal people, though, this book is a complete waste of money. Most of the "facts" in this book are nothing but rumor or half-truths that when researched correctly, prove to be mostly wrong or a complete lie. It is sad when an author has to sell books by using the "Jerry Springer model" of complete outrageousness and total falsehood just to make money. Even liberals should be ashamed that this man is within their ranks beacuse after reading this book, I wanted to join the libertarian party. Some advice Mike, next time you write a book on "stupid white men", maybe you should go to a library and read on what us "stupid white men" have done for this country to make it as great as it is today, and if you hate this country so much, which from your book you apparently do, then just leave and go somewhere where people will appreciate your socialist diatribes.

Summary: It's not worth the money, check it out at the library!
Review: Dennis Miller meets George Carlin!! That about summed it up for me. Parts of it were wonderful, other parts like the beginning of chapter 4 were ridiculous!! I am not a conservative nor a liberal, and this is the first time I have read anything from Michael Moore, be assured it will be the last!

Summary: How about a little truth with your bad wages?
Review: There is still that annoyingly sneaky suspicion that we've been more than just slightly bamboozled by our Commander-in-Chief Dubuya Bush; I mean we all know he didn't really win the election, but it's just quite remarkable that he didn't (really) win considering he was up to his C-Average armpits in double dealings and foul play, all his lil political familia at the bases and ready. But he's in the oval office now and Michael Moore did his research. From Volkswagons to airline pilots wages to the ridiculous farce sometimes referred to [as] the 2000 Presidential election, Michael fires away against all those nasty politicians...and the best part, it's all facts baby. The top 10 lists in this book will make you a mad American, Donkey or Elephant, it's still awful for those sitting on either side of the fence. The book will make you mad, indignant, righteous, and although the read is fast and funny, the info that gets crammed into your joggin is invaluable. This is the Daily Show's concept of distributing info crammed into book form; it's brilliant, informative, and presented on a easy platter for those who want the evils of politicians exposed in one, anger-stirring whammy that is accessible. Even my younger brother was able to clog through it, and his attention span is limited to video games. Pick it up, it's smart and funny...just not a happy story. Prepare to actually care about what's going on in our country and prepare to get mad.

Summary: I'm not liberal, yet...
Review: I found this a good book. As a person who used to be a dyed in the wool GOPer and conservative, I have had rethought my views, particularly my partisan ones over the last few years. Among my favorite writers are Michael Moore and Molly Ivins. I don't agree with them on everything, but I admire their wit and satirical style. Regarding this book, it is very well researched, particularly the section that talks about the Election fo 2000 and the shenanigans that went on well before election day. Mr. Moore is a very decent guy who seems to have country's well-being sincerely at heart. I think that that particular part of the book should give any American pause at what went on down there. It is our patriotic duty to ask questions when "things don't look quite right." It is never our duty to not question. Read this book not because Michael Moore is a liberal (which he most definitely is). Read it because it's a good book.

Summary: If you haven't read it, you need it.
Review: There's a good reason this book has sold more copies then any other non-fiction book this year: It is also roll on the floor funny.

This book has so much to offer. It is a scathing look at Republicans and Democrats alike and pulls no punches in talking about how corporations have purchased elections and cooked the courtrooms. Amazingly, it was written pre-Enron and pre-Worldcom.

Chances are, the people who wrote the negative reviews have no sense of humor whatsoever. The folks at Harper thought this book went way to far and almost didn't publish it! That makes sense in a really weird anti-capitalist way, because if you're easily offended, there's probably something in this book that will really annoy you. If you like "politically correct" humor, then you should definitely pass. And if you think either Republicans or Democrats are sacred and shouldn't be mocked, you should move on.

But if you like political commentary with a good dose of humor (a la Chris Rock), this book will give you more than you could ever want.

I mean, it is now in it's 30th printing and spent over 6 months on the NYT Bestseller list! Read it and find out why.

Summary: Brilliant!!!
Review: This is book is absolutely brilliant! I couldn't put it down once I started reading. I read other reviews on the net, and some people were really mad, and called it all a nonsense. I couldn't believe it.... If this book was all nonsense and lies than wouldn't Michael Moore be sued big time by now? Some people just don't want to believe this, and that's fine I guess, it is scary stuff when you think about it, or perhaps they are no better than the evil people Michael Moore is writing about.
I didn't read this book as antiwhite, because like in every race there are good people and there are evil people, and I read it as a battle between good and evil. But I do think that Michael Moore could have made this book a lot better by not saying things like "kill whitey"! I am not white and I still felt weird reading it. I just couldn't believe it!!!
