Rating: Summary: Not ever new, but very funny [for a european] Review: What a book! He said, what the most europeans thinking about the new 'president' and [as example] the middle west :). I dont think about the literal quality of the book, the polemic about his own country is what we need here to understand why nobody in america is woundering ...
Rating: Summary: State Of The Nation: The Way It Is, The Way It Ought To Be Review: This book, which I enjoyed very much, is a funny, satirical expose' on the state of our nation. It tells us how Michael Moore sees the way it is. If you find that of value, so be it. Maybe its just me, but I don't think it should be taken real seriously. It IS rather tongue-in-cheek. And, I don't have a dog in this race, but I think anyone who reads this book should also get the opposite perspective by reading something like Sean Hannity's "Let Freedom Ring". And, readers ought to put BOTH sides into perspective by reading the absolutely objective book about America and what it means to be an American, "West Point: Character Leadership Education, A Book Developed From The Readings And Writings Of Thomas Jefferson", by Remick.
Rating: Summary: Amazing. Courageous. Hilarious. Review: Michael Moore puts into more eloquent, humorous words (again) what 90% of us rant and complain about daily. He includes the facts and references to back up common sense arguments. Buy it. Read it. Love it. Give it as gifts.
Rating: Summary: MM is a genius... Buy the book and find out... Review: I really like this book a lot... I read it 3 weeks ago, and I'm thinking about reading it again..I didn't know who Micheal Moore was until I got the book... and found out that he was the guy in "The Awful Truth", a programme on channel 4 a few years back... This was my favourite programme when I was 16, and since I was thinking about it for ages, trying to remember who was the guy in it..You can Imagine how happy I was when I found out the same guy behind my fav programme of my youth also wrote a book that was exactly about the kind of stuff I was thinking about.. This guy is a genius... His latest film about violence in america won the Cannes film festival a very short while back, and I'll be first in line if it makes it to Dublin.. The book itself, while it is a lot of facts, actually reveals a lot of scary stuff about america and the world... But the book also has it's solutions, and guidelines on how you can make things better... .... it's important that a lot of people read this book, because... while it could be better written (sorry, but I have to have some criticism of it, and some places it does kind of doze off.. but still gets the point across..), it makes you feel good reading it... it gives you that feeling that there is something you can do, and there is people thinking like you. Full Marks 5 stars, Keep up the good work MM ...
Rating: Summary: If you want to be really aggro'd... Review: then by all means, get this book. If you would rather leave your head in the sand. Pass it by. Knowing that Michael Moore is a tad biased (to say the least), I started reading with the full intention of following up on most of his statements and facts. A curious thing happened, not only did he actually site his sources, which made it very easy for a slacker such as myself to confirm these, but lo and behold...they were true. Which led me to be agitated, appalled and paralyzed. Style of writing is indeed humorous which makes for a speedy read. My only complaint is that I found myself so irked at what our government does that I had to stop reading it and find some way of acting upon it.
Rating: Summary: Everyone should be made to read this book! Review: I read the book in about two days and was amused, shocked and educated by it. All Americans should read it to learn about the state their homeland is in and we should all learn from it. We are allowing our world to be run by a bunch of self-serving, self-satisfied and downright selfish pariahs and frankly it makes me sick and ashamed.
Rating: Summary: A Real Eye-Opener Review: Michael Moore has succeeded in exposing the corrupt Bush Administration. (Ken Lay is mentioned as a key player in the corruption, and this was written pre-Enron scandal!)He also raises some very important questions regarding race, gender, and the environment. While I didn't agree with him 100% on all ideas presented in this book, I don't feel that's exactly what he wants. It seems to me that Moore's main goal is to get Americans involved in politics, run for public office, vote in elections, etc. And that's the effect this book had on me. After reading it, I am more aware of the political world around me, and more skeptical of the way politicians control the American public by spoon-feeding us what we want to hear. Ignorance is not bliss, people! Read this book and you'll see what I mean!
Rating: Summary: Nice Comedy....Low on facts Review: This book does deserve 1 star because it is funny. Michael Moore would be right at home doing a comedy act at AC or Las Vegas. Perhaps he and Al Gore could recreate the "Abott & Costello" or Laurel & Hardy" comic strips. Throw Bill Clinton in and you would have the new version of the Three Stooges. Seriously, does Moore expect Americans to forget that the media had called the election for Al Gore and 60,000 voters did not vote (in a strong Republican state) when the media had erroneously and irresponsibly said the election was over, Gore had won and the polls were closed? Does Moore expect us to forgett that the stock market starting falling and the economy went to the pits before Bush took office? We needed a change, and we have one. Mr. Zipper and the Android are gone. It took Ronald Reagan two terms and George Bush, Sr. 1 full term to straighten out the mess they inherited from the previous administration. It stands to reason that it will take some time for GWB II to straighten the chaos that he inherited. Stupid white men appears to be written by a stupid author for stupid people. Big on comedy, low on fact. If you enjoy Abbott & Costello movies and reruns of the Three Stooges, you will love this book! A better read would be "At any Cost: How Al Gore Tried to Steal the Election", "Slander" or "Bias"
Rating: Summary: Cuts to the bone Review: Michael Moore [no relation] has truly cut to the bone for those of us who feel that there is a deep despair gripping the people of this country. Whether you agree with his remedies or not, he has certainly succeeded in picking at public scabs and exposing the purulence of the political and economic body.
Rating: Summary: The good and the not so good Review: First the good stuff. Moore points out the need for business ownerers to pay their employees a living wage along with sick and retirement benefits. I stongly agree! This is just good business, and by "good" I mean the right thing to do as well as the profitable thing to do. That's right. It is more profitable, especially in the long run, to do what is right -to your employees, to all of the stakeholders that are a part of your business. (This is the main thrust of my book: "The Constant-Sum Approach to Business Success"). As for the not so good stuff, Moore wants to blame President Bush for any and all of the bad things that that occurred since his election, including the stock market nose-dive. This is neither true, nor realistic. Moore's political bias sticks out like a sore thumb. His rationale for his claims is weak and unconvincing.
