Summary: Part Of The Problem, Not Part Of The Solution
Review: I wish to be honest, not agenda-driven. After reading this book, there can be no doubt that Michael Moore is funny and talented. And, he's correct to point out that there are still things not right with our nation. True, our founding fathers' dreams of the way it is supposed to be in America have still not been fulfilled. We have to work on that. But, honestly. I have to be honest. I don't think Michael Moore was always particularly himself bothered with reaching that platitude when presenting his "facts" and research. Though "Stupid White Men" is funny, and does make a few points, I don't think it should be taken all that seriously. Unfortunately, it's an ill-advised work. It has an ill-advised title. And, it's one of those books that's part of the problem, not part of the solution. For a book of bonafide facts and research that's part of the solution, not part of the problem, let me suggest a book that, using West Point as a metaphor for America, is called "West Point: Character Leadership Education, A Book Developed From The Readings And Writings Of Thomas Jefferson", by Norman Thomas Remick. There you have it. But, don't just go by what I say. Purchase "Stupid White Men". See for yourself. Then go on from there.

Summary: MUCKRAKING WITH HUMOR
Review: After viewing his sobering documentary "Bowling for Columbine" and then reading this much recommended book, it is clear to me that Michael Moore has certainly become the Upton Sinclair of the new millenium.

This is a powerful book with a cornucopia of sad statistics and humor-laced bullet points to support its various theses. Much of Moore's points are well taken, but be forewarned...this is a rather depressing read (in spite of its biting humor.) Moore seems only interested in what is wrong with our world (and believe me there is a great deal of trouble, intolerence and injustice to write volumes about.) However there might be at least a few good reports to offer about our planet or a few opposing statistics (which Moore deprives his reader of) to include in this position paper that might have given the book more balance and even greater weight. The humor is, for the most part, right on target, although its style is not the sort which very often makes me laugh out loud.

Perhaps the most powerful chapter in the book is entitled "We're Number One!" and includes Moore's not-so-outlandish solutions to the conflicts facing the Middle East and Northern Ireland. Most sobering is how we turned our focus away in the 90s from serious opportunities like altogether eliminating nuclear arms from the planet in favor of subjects like Monica Lewinsky. According to Moore, we instead chose to give our undivided attention to "slow-moving Broncos, six-year-old strangled beauty queens, and Hugh Grant's dating habits."

This book will no doubt open your eyes in numerous ways...and Moore's excellent film "Bowling for Columbine" only further solidifies his many excellent arguments.

Summary: Ignore John D. West's Review
Review: This book is enlightening, and wonderfully full of information the folks here in Texas refuse to admit is true. You'd be doing youself a favor to ignore any review from any real Texan (I am NOT one) because they can't see the forest for the trees.
Sorry John, but after 7 years of having Texas Pride shoved down my throat I've lost all respect for any Texas opinion.

Summary: It was O.K
Review: Poliitcally I consider myself an Independent. However Mike Moore does do a lot in this book that makes you think and in some places the book is quite funny(particularly his comments on the election of 2000).

I really liked this book a lot but there were a few things that really annoyed me

1. Moore's constant reference to Al Gore as "president in exile". Ok we all know the election of 2000 got ugly but here is a news flash for all of you GORE CHEATED TOO and if he had gotten an edge... oh well just go out and vote in '04 and we will not have this problem.
2. Some of you people in your reviews treat Moore like he is a saint or some kind of poor man's hero, he's not just a guy with a lot of common sense.

Overall-Like I said this made me think, I'll go get his new book as well

Summary: Funny and thought-provoking
Review: I didn't really know who Michael Moore was before I read this book, I did it on a recommendation from a friend. It was very entertaining. Moore is an intelligent man with a razor-sharp wit who clearly thinks about things A LOT.

At times the humor gets a little heavy-handed, but on the whole I had a great time reading this.

Summary: Michael Moore One dimensional thinker
Review: Why people think Michael Moore is some kind of deep thinker with his pulse on the issues is beyond me. He's a liberal with a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas! Maybe he never understood the concept of the electoral collage, but in this case it worked exactly the way it was meant to. Yes we all know Al Gore got more votes, but if you look at states won it was Bush easily! I for one am thankful for George Bush being in office for 9/11 and after! Moore doesn't think about the issue's he feels them and going on your feelings without thinking is always a mistake! The Democrats need to get over the 2000 election and move on, but every time they think there in a room full of liberals they start crying about the election!
Mr. Moore makes some good points in this book, but he fails to effectively look at both sides of this issue, it's his way or no way! Buy this book but keep in mind you need to get the other point of view.

Summary: Totally Misguided
Review: This book was hard to read because it was not completely factual. It omitted many facts which would have discounted much of the book. Michael Moore is an extreme leftist with the intention to bring down the Right even if he has to lie. His views are so warped that this book can't be taken seriously. There is no humor at all in this book. Don't waste your time reading this garbage.

Summary: Good, but not his best...
Review: Being a major Michael Moore fan, I bought this book as soon as it was available, and read it just as quickly. I don't think Michael Moore's importance to American life can be understated --there is no corporate and political watchdog who sees the world as clearly, or as compassionately. He is also one of the funniest men in America, with sketch comedy skills that surpass anything on "Saturday Night Live."

Having said that, this book disappointed me a bit. His basic point -- that most of the world's problems can be blamed on the machine in power, operated by white men with money, while the people that do get blamed, like foreign governments, black men, and poor people, are largely blameless -- is true, but I've been hearing that for ten years (it's a popular theory on college campuses) so it's hardly original. His essays were funny, as always, but I'm not sure much new ground is being covered here. If you've watched "The Awful Truth," any of his movies, or read "Downsize This!" you may find yourself nodding along -- but with familiarity, not recognition.

Summary: The right is mad because the right is wrong
Review: this book was one great book. i know all you ulta-conservatives would want to start a good old fashioned BBQ but guess what this book IS great but there are a whole lot more out there that are better and with a lot of factual insight this book did not provide. of course for the rookies, you should just start of with either howard zinn or noam chomsky (8th most quoted person of all time). after that go into specifics. we wave the flag of freedom as we conquor and invade.

Summary: Begs For Answers To The Way It's Supposed To Be
Review: America, through Michael Moore's eyes. Enjoyable. Satirical. Flippant. Refreshing. Funny. Begs for answers to the way it's supposed to be in America. "West Point: Character Leadership Education..." by Remick (West Point a metaphor for America) gives those answers. Moore's great expository book, virtually a lead-in to its corollary by Remick.
