Summary: Not as Funny as Downsize This, but Still Good
Review: Micheal Moore has a knack for exposing the problems in America which he demonstrates in this book. The issues he discusses range from the criminal "justice" system to the merging of the democrat and republican parties. I'm really concerned about the state of our country and it's good to know that other people care too. I have hope though. I remember what Mike said in his first book: The chairman of Exxon has the same number of votes as you or me - one. And there's more of us than there are of him.

Summary: One man's personal opinion
Review: I laughed out loud while reading this book. It is funny and often on target. I also appreciate that Mr. Moore doesn't just spend his time criticizing, but also offers some tentative solutions to the problems he describes. This is one man's opinion, and I believe that we should applaud Michael Moore for his passionate voice.

I did not see the book as "liberal", "far left" or "socialistic" or any of the other uninspired labels that have been pinned on it. There is, in fact, an entire chapter devoted to stinging criticism of the disorganized Democratic Party. There is a devastating critique of Bill Clinton's lack of leadership on several issues. Mr. Moore is also careful to point out that many of the stands attributed to Mr. Bush (or whatever Mr. Moore chooses to call him on any particular page--and he uses some very creative pseudonyms), were actually initiated (or NOT initiated), in the Clinton Administration. Mr. Moore seems no more reluctant to criticize Clinton than he does Bush.

It is easy to dismiss this book as "socialist" drivel if one has not read the entire book, or if one is bent on pinning labels on the passionalte feelings of an author and film-maker who has awakened more than a few people, and recently brought a cheering audience at the Cannes Film Festival to it's feet.

Summary: Great, great, great!
Review: Hilarious, irreverent, and intelligent, Moore makes his Nader-esque points with a great sense of humor. I highly recommend this book and would challenge ANY right-wing politician to an on-camera face-off with Moore. They would not come out unscathed.

Summary: Sophomoric drivel
Review: If you enjoy remembering the '70s, where campus liberals were obsessed with identifying with "black brothers" and the "black movement," then you might enjoy this book. If you were bored out of your skull by these campus liberals who were terrified of being labeled racist and did everything in their power to convince you that they really did "dig it", then avoid this screed from one very angry and stupid white writer. Michael Moore tries desperately to show his contempt for conservative ideas and he over-kills his agenda. The whole tone of the book is one long piercing shriek. He doesn't just over-kill the conversative movement. He jumps on it, screaming, hollaring and then wallops it relentlessly with an axe. It's so hypocritically leftist that one could read this book as a complete hoot.

Summary: Entertaining, some truth, but simplistic
Review: This book is worth reading, but I can't agree with all of Moore's assertions. For example, most people appreciate that they need to face up to their own responsibilities and take control of their lives rather than trying to interpret everything that happens to them in terms of their being a victim. To blame all the problems of the black community upon oppression by whites is so simplistic as to be absurd. Moore fails to appreciate the historical and cultural complexities that lead people to hold irrationally opposing points of view - an example of this is provided by his comments on Northern Ireland.

You should get a few laughs out of this book, despite his 'holier than thou' tone. Also, it's refreshing to hear a dissenting voice amongst the corporate voices that seem to dominate the media (especially in the States).

Summary: Sexist and Racist Premise
Review: The most offensive part of this book is it's title. Imagine the uproar that would accompany any book entitled " Lazy Black Men " or " Greedy Jewish Women ". We are all, in theory, working toward a society without racism or sexism. That means that degoratory and inflammatory comments directed at any race or sex are equally unacceptable. The Democratic electorate that will enjoy this book claims a moral high ground on issues of racism and sexism. How interesting that they have embraced a book with a clearly sexist and racist title.
The book itself is highly biased and benefits from a selective view of the facts. In this, it is no different from the books that used an equally bised view to bash the Clintons. It is simply written by someone from the other side of the aisle. Democrats will love this book and Republicans will hate it. That small group of true independents will find themselves as disgusted with the two parties as they have always been. If Bush bashing is your thing, then read this book and revel in it. If W is your man, forget about this book.
The text is meant to entertain, not inform. The current administration, like all others, has serious flaws. However, this book is simply too biased to treated as a serious critique.

Summary: Should be Recommended Reading for Americans
Review: I thought that this book was outstanding because it exposed a lot of things going on in American politics and how to make positive changes. You will definitely put the book down and be changed by the contents.

Thanks Michael Moore for this one!

Summary: Good Book - Exposes the Lunacy
Review: ...P>I will give credit to the author that he does seem genuine in his positions and was willing to take risks in asserting dubious statements as facts. This at least shows that he has guts and that is something that I can respect him for. With that being said I will detail the main point that the author got right that a lot of citizens of the Unites States of America have not realized yet.

#1 The Republicrats and Demicans are nearly identical parties. Many people prefer to call them Socialist Party A and Socialist Party B. Mr. Moore does a decent job in delineating the sameness of the parties, however he does it from an extreme leftist position. Mr. Moore is so far to the left that just about everybody and everything looks like a right wing position. Mr. Moore tries to show that the Democratic Party has moved to the right, certainly this point is highly questionable at best. With that being said, the author and I at least agree with his premise that they are basically identical parties. And we defiantly need to see some party that will rise up and be PRO-AMERICAN rather than the ANTI-AMERICAN socialistic parties we have now.

Reviewing this book is tricky due to the enormous amount of internal inconsistencies in this book. (This is a large problem in reviewing almost any book that has a decidedly socialist agenda due to the relativistic nature that socialist put on the truth and facts. A socialist views the truth and malleable and has no problem contradicting himself over and over again. This of course poses a problem for those on the right since they view truth as a non-bending principal.) A few examples of the internal inconsistence are:

IS THE ECONOMY GOOD
"There is no recession, my friends. No downturn. No Hard times. The rich are wallowing in the loot they've accumulated in the past two decades, and now they want to make sure you don't come a-lookin' for your piece of the pie." (50)

OR

IS THE ECONOMY BAD
"Part of the reason you're hearing so much about how bad the economy is these days is that many of those who are getting their pink slips are friends and family of those reporting the bad news" (54)

CAN'T HAVE A TREATY WITH A KAPUT COUNTRY
"No, Sally, the Soviet Union isn't our enemy. The Soviet Union has been kaput for ten years. . . . " (106 ellipsis in original)

OR

CAN HAVE A TREATY WITH A KAPUT COUNTRY
"He started a new Cold War with Russia by actively preparing to violate the anti-ballistic missile (ABM) treaties of the 1970's" (164 - by the way Mike, The treaty was with the Soviet Union, which as you know, see quote above, that the country is no longer around.)

A PRESIDENT WHO USES MIND ALTERING LEGAL SUBSTANCES IS BAD
See pages 39-42 for Mike's diatribe against George W. Bush's drinking.

OR

A PRESIDENT WHO USES MIND ALTERING ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES IS COOL
"We were all relieved that the Regan/Bush years were over, and it was kind of cool that we had a President who had smoked pot" (211)

I will end this review with just a few random points:

#1 George W. Bush won the election using our constitutional electoral ballot system. Mr. Moore believes that a popular vote is used to elect presidents. (2)

#2 The Florida election was originally called for Gore not Bush. (7)

#3 Military ballots cast in a federal election fall under federal rules for overseas ballots not states rules. The military ballots were legal; even Gore's Attorneys tacitly admitted this. Mr. Moore unfortunately does not know the law and would rather have the legally cast votes of our brave soldiers who are protecting our freedoms that he takes for granted, not count. (10-11) (Remember Mike is more concerned that Convicted Felons, you know those people who rape and kill your grandmother, get a fair chance to vote because they vote for democrats.)

HEY, just a thought: Why do protectors of freedom vote conservative while destroyers of freedom vote liberal?

#4 Mr. Moore thinks that independent Palestinian nation will stop the fighting in Israel. By the way Mike the Palestinians were given there own independent nation in 1947. They turned it down of course so that they continue to follow their stated goals of the total extermination of the nation of Israel. Kind of hard to negotiate peace with an opposition who says we will only have peace when you are dead. (180-181)

#5 Mr. Moore believes that we need to spend more money on education and this will solve the problems. Wake up Mike, the United States of America spends more money on a per pupil basis than any other country in the world. It's not the money buddy, it's the curriculum. This isn't about poor teachers or shoddy school building it's about a methodological dumbing down of our students by design. Remember Clinton's Goals 2000? Read it and the UNICEF education plans and you will be amazed, the system is performing as it is intended to. (That's why all the rich liberals send their kids to private school, they designed the system)

#8 On page98-99 Mike encourages students to be different, go against the trends, be unique then on page 206 he criticizes the United States for being different, going against the trends and being unique. America must conform to what other countries tell it to do!

I hope I didn't turn anybody off of the book. I will be giving several copies to friends, it exposes just how radical and illogical the extreme socialists (whoops, in deference to Michael Moore we should call them the green party) supporters can be. This book will do wonders to help those of us on the RIGHT side of the issues.

Summary: Far left wing liberal!!
Review: Let me start by stating the simple facts: 1.) the media is by far a liberal organization. They will pull anything to attack Bush or the republicans. If the writer is correct about what he was saying: where in the world was the media? It seems to me they missed a huge story!! 2.) If Al Gore was all about protecting the rights of voters, Why didn't he say something? Or would it not be the right thing to do? Apparently Al Gore and the rest of the democrats let the voters down with their silence. Why are they not saying something now? This is nothing more than a lame attempt to degrade the President of the United States, and the Govenor of Florida. Not to mention try and divide our nation at a time when we should be pulling together as a nation behind our leader and looking to the future! I strongly urge all Americans not to buy this book and further divide our nation. Instead help bring us closer together to make it through such a hard time in our history.

Summary: Typical liberal point of view...
Review: With a book like this, you're either going to love it or hate it. If you're a Republican, or even the least little bit conservative, this book is going to grate on your nerves. If you're a liberal, you're going to like it.

Personally, I'm a conservative. I bought this book so I could get a liberal point-of-view. After reading it I found that I still don't agree with anything in this book, but it was an interesting read.

Moore uses typical Democratic tactics. Throughout the book he criticizes every member of the Bush administration, at times calling them flat-out crooks. But never once does he EVER give a single reason to vote for a Democrat. Rather, he gives reasons to vote against Republicans. Republicans, as a group, have their flaws like any other group of people. Even more so, seeing as how they're politicians. But before I will ever support somebody else I need reasons to support them.

Now keep in mind, he isn't outright CAMPAIGNING in this book, but he may as well be.

Basically this book was written as propaganda against the Bush presidency and should be treated as nothing more. Propaganda.
