Rating: Summary: Tired, tired, tired... Review: Tried and true anti-establishment "group think". Not even that well written. Yawn.
Rating: Summary: The "truth" hurts... Review: But this book isn't it. Indeed, most of Michael Moore's politics seem to consist of desiring revenge over the "corporate bigwigs" (whom, according to Moore, have all been stupid white men, thus the title of the book). He either ignores all of his detractors' arguments or only presents the weakest ones or the very essentials of the strongest. Why, then, would I give this book a 4/5? It's just a really fun read. Unless you're a cold-hearted evil reactionary who thinks that this book is heresy (or hearsay, which it very well may be), or a diehard liberal treehugger who thinks Moore is going easy on the "stupid white men," you'll almost certainly find a bunch of things you agree with, in whole or in part. And even if you don't, you'll enjoy hearing about Moore's conversations with homeless people, comany suits, and his constant defeats at the hands of the Bush family, to either get you riled up come Election Day, or to laugh at the failure that is the Democratic Party. Everyone can enjoy this book (and Moore's similar book, "Downsize This"), if they just keep an open mind.
Rating: Summary: Capitalism is good! Review: I guess this is review number 476, and so far it seems like everyone has either 5 stars or 1 star. So obviously people are very divided on this issue. On the one hand, you have the left, the Greens, the socialists, the "good guys" and on the other, the right, the Rich White Guys, or in other words the "bad guys". The reviews with five stars are like "Yeah, Michael Moore, you really took it to those Nazi rednecks!" and the ones with one star are like "This is a bunch of tree-hugging hippie lies!" I give it three because you have to read it and make your own decisions. So what I suggest you all do is figure out which side is right. Not which one is the bad guys or good guys (although here's a hint: both sides think the other one is the bad guys). Just use your mind for a change. Sure go on and read Chomsky, Nader, Marx and so on. But then pick up Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead" or "Atlas Shrugged". For a lighter read, how about P.J. O'Rourke's "Eat the Rich". And try and stop seeing things as a matter of black and white, maybe both sides have something to offer. When you look at both sides I hope you agree with me that Capitalism is the only system that protects personal freedoms. Socialism, "social justice", and rich hating that characterizes Michael Moore can only lead to decay and destruction, rather than wealth prosperity and freedom.
Rating: Summary: A Remarkable Autobiography Review: Michael Moore has written one of the most remarkably honest and candid autobiographies of all time! How someone can be this honest about his own weaknesses and foibles is profoundly touching. I hope this heroic effort at openness will act as the purgative he has been desperately seeking to rid himself of his ludicrous ways of thinking in the near past. Three cheers to Michael and this book! The Dipper's heart is greatly warmed knowing that there is hope for truly all.
Rating: Summary: I read this in one day Review: I couldn't put it down. Buy this book!... Do you know all of those questions that pop into your head that no one seems to talk about????? Well, here are your answers. Mike is the bravest man in the country! Moore for President!!!
Rating: Summary: The Flip Side to Rush Review: Too often in America now we have two extremes presented and call that balance. There is no more balance in this book than listening to Rush Limbaugh. But there is lots to thinks about. There is definitely passion. But, too much of the content is Saturday Night live material. I recently saw Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" and loved it immensely. The subject there is simple. We have too many guns and we use them on each other. Other countries have guns and violent histories but do not come close to the homicide levels in this country. The story was sad, funny and moving. Several times tears welled up because the material was so moving. This book is not moving. It raises serious issues but does not deal with them seriously. Name calling and character assassination won't built the kind of base necessary to deal with the issues about leadership that this book raises. In "Roger and Me" and "Bowling for Columbine" the issues are very focused. In "Stupid ..." we seem to be all over the place. So, I was very unsatisfied with this effort. Michael Moore is a talent and I look forward to other projects because he is capable of searing social commentary.
Rating: Summary: Stupid White Men Review: This may be the most interesting, eye opening, infuriating piece of literature I have ever read. I am a recently graduated UCSD student and I picked up this book in England after watching his Film "Bowling for Columbine". Once I opened to the first page I couldn't put it down, and that is saying a lot for someone who does not read much for fun. Its a drastic difference from the usual American media jargon that we are fed from the Corporate Conglomerates who try and keep us under their thumb and in a constant state of manufactured fear. Michael Moore is an amazing writer and I hope for our society that more people begin to read and write more material like his works.
Rating: Summary: REALLY STUPID WHITE MEN! Review: I loved this book although I was not pleased on the chapter dealing with the middle east. George Bush is our leader illegally and Michael Moore shows us why it is so important to remove him from office in the next election. This book depicts Bush for what he is, a spoiled, low functioning, dry drunk who is going to lead us into World War III. It's time for the Baby Boomers to wake up and remember some of the idealism they had when they were young adults. This book is the manifesto for the socially concerned American who believes in the government of the people. Bite me! George Sr., George Jr., Shady Cheney and the rest of the stupid white men.
Rating: Summary: Well written but utterly wrong Review: In this book you will find an entertaining and well written explanation of what's wrong with America. In short, Michael Moore thinks America is in a sorry condition because too many people actually believe in things like interpreting the consitution based on the original intent of the authors, the value of traditional values, the blessings of individual (rather than collective) liberty, and all the other factors that have made America a great nation. Mr Moore never seriously addresses these issues, preferring to make his case by character assaults instead. He may well be correct in some of his well written and engaging details, but he fails to see that order requires law, that liberty means inequality in economic outcome, and that the real source of our America's problems is a crisis of character fed by the leftist assault on our culture and institutions. Mr. Moore's book is another salvo in that assault, fired from the wrong side.
