Rating: Summary: Still Wrong Review: Mr. Moore is a very talented writer, who recycled and repackaged old liberal views. These liberal views were wrong some 80 years ago (when they were conceived) and they are still wrong.
Rating: Summary: Moore is better Review: First of all, anyone interested in learning more about Moore should visit his internet site (www michaelmoore dot com)...In 'Stupid White Men', I believe Michael succeeds in putting a human face (heart, and funny bone) on American politics where other critics or politicians most often fail or fall short. He gathers and confronts the facts head-on, bypassing the mainstream corporate media, unafraid to take a closer look at the worst and the best of all that's recently come to pass within that strange large-scale capitalist experiment the world calls the United States. The result is a humorous and deeply humanist exercise in journalistic investigating that any healthy society needs in order to maintain as a part of their cultural landscape the will of the people. He's fine-tuned his craft, having become more and more relevant with each book or documentary, and as far as I'm concerned, this one is a must-read. Now more than ever, I can't wait for what Michael Moore will bring us next. Perhaps someday he'll run for President...
Rating: Summary: Republican's are Stupid White Men Review: To all the right-wing extremists that are critizing this book and calling it 'Liberal', I really do wonder if you've sat down and read it. Moore quite clearly states in SEVERAL chapters that Clinton was WORSE then Bush, and that the only reason why some people can't see that was because Clinton had charisma. Clinton did things much worse then Bush has done so far, and he states this very clearly. There's no left or right slant in this book, Moore just state's what happened and why it was bad. Read it before you criticize it!
Rating: Summary: Political Science should be taught like this in school Review: If we had more teachers like Michael Moore in our schools then our education system wouldn't be in such sorry shape. This is a fun and interesting book - you'll have so much fun reading this that you won't even know you're actually learning something. The only problem I had with this book is that it got a little bit repetitive, but I suppose Moore thought that's what he needed to do in order to get his point across. Still, if you're interested in why America is falling into such hard times in the 21st Century, this book is a great place to start.
Rating: Summary: An equal opportunity critic Review: Michael Moore isn't out to bash only the right or the Republican Party. He criticizes all of the (usually) men in charge, and spares no one out of political correctness. He is interested in results, not what party or group our political and corporate leaders are attached to. This is a refreshing change from most commentators, who only go after the "other side", refusing to honestly assess their own. Mr. Moore has marshalled the facts, and gives phone numbers and addresses to contact now that he has stirred you to action. He is funny too, which is also a refreshing change from the humorless media names! It is a shame that while there are many famous right wing media opinion-makers, Michael Moore is the only one who fills this role for the equal oppotunity center and the left. He acknowledged this week in an interview (quoted in the January 1 New York Times) that he is "tired of picking up the slack for, well, everyone. 'I think it's an embarrassment that it's somebody in a ball cap with no college education that's going in to ask these questions,'he said. 'It's disgraceful. I can't stand to look at myself on the screen cause I look at that and I think, `Boy if that shows there's anything wrong with the American media, it's that the job is left up to this guy.' ...I'm just waiting for the media to start doing their job so I can go back home and watch more sports. This is way too much work for me. I'm a very lethargic person." Please don't go home, Mr. Moore. You are irreplaceable!
Rating: Summary: First I was angry, but he does have a point Review: My husband started reading this and I was getting angry at all the anti-american rants he would be reading out loud to me. Before he even finished the book But he has footnotes for all the things he says, so that must mean that a good number of them are true. He has an annoying tendency to only see things through a leftist critique that can be just as easily seen through a feminist critique or other viewpoint, and he repeats himself a lot. But on the whole, it was a good read, and I do hope enough people get active and write their Congressperson about important matters such as arsenic in the water.....
Rating: Summary: didn't make me laugh OR think Review: intelligent liberals across america will dismay at the success of 'stupid white men.' rather than providing an ideologically sound look at the state of american politics, moore just dishes up more cheap cannon fodder for the conservatives. if this is where the left is headed, I might have to stop calling myself a liberal. if you're expecting the makes-you-laugh/makes-you-think wit of 'bowling for columbine', wait for the paperback. better yet, go to an iraq protest. this rag isn't worth the time it takes to read it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent.... Review: A must-read for anyone interested in politics, humor, or the future of the United States. I've suggested this book for American History, Cultural History, and Political Science classes in high school and college. This would be a fantastic supplement to a high school civics class (in particular, the chapter on student activism and subversiveness). Read by Arte Johnson, who has a very good voice for this presentation, though he needs to learn what a "dot-com" is. :) I strongly suggest the audio version over the book version. While Moore is a fantastic with wit and commentary, his writing style is rigid and sometimes difficult to read. It's very entertaining to hear Arte Johnson present it. Everyone should read Moore's open letter to President Bush, in which Moore presents strong evidence that Bush is a felon, an alcoholic, a drug addict, and is neglectful of his own family and children. I've kept my name anonymous - last time I wrote a review like this, you conservatives and fundamentalists out there send me e-mail threats, signed me up for mountains of spam, and even phoned a few death threats to my home. Please refrain this time - and instead concentrate on how you can help keep this a free country.
Rating: Summary: Guilt Trip Psychobabble Review: Yes, the author may very well be the stupidest white man in America. I'm #2 for wasting my money on this garbage.
Rating: Summary: Stupid White Men by Michael Moore Review: Hillarious and right on the mark. Many of the things we suspected about Bush winning the election and the people controlling him are out in the open and well researched. I think Bush can share notes with Mugabe on how to [destroy] democracy. Recommended reading for any one interested in U.S. current affairs and the world.
