Rating: Summary: Buy this book Review: To all readers buy this book.... Best thing going... The man speaks the truth.... A great book
Rating: Summary: Perfect title for a STUPID WHITE MAN! Review: Somebody must have dropped Michael Moore on his head when he was a child. Something has to be behind the babble and ignorance that this STUPID WHITE MAN dishes out. THANK GOD I DIDN"T BUY THIS BOOK!! I borrowed the book from a friend, a fellow democrat, who agrees that the book is drabble! Yes, I am a Democrat. SURPRISE! This book is not worth purchasing from a garage sale 50 cent book bin!
Rating: Summary: A really stupid and vicious white man Review: I have a lot of disdain for those who at the beginning of the 21st century are still ready to support the bankrupt "philosophy" of Marxism. Moore represents this group. Unlike the radical left-wingers who never read books expounding viewpoints different from their own -- which you can tell from talking to them or reading the reviews they write on Amazon.com -- I read a variety of sources. I subscribe to "National Review" but also read "The Nation" -- out of sheer fascination (which does not equal admiration or respect!), and out of desire, I admit, to feel superior to the mad-dog leftists. So I picked up Moore's book in a book store today, opened it, and the first thing I saw was a chart listing presidents and prime ministers of the 50 largest countries on Earth (Digression: I guess the purpose of it was to state how dumb anyone is who does not know these names. I wonder what percentage of people from those 50 largest countries are familiar with the names of foreign politicians, capitals etc. Believe me, the levels of education outside of the USA are not that great). The list contained the names of some of the most corrupt, brutal, dumb - you name it- people the world has ever seen. Yet, only G.W. Bush's was preceded by the word President in quotation marks...And that was enough for me. Is it not a perfect example of liberal bias in the media? Isn't the title of the book another example of it (can you imagine a book on crime called "Violent Black Men" ??!!) ? I am sick and tired of such garbage going unquestioned but by a few sane people in the media. When you look at the history of the world, everything our civilization stands on, we owe to those "stupid" white men. Moore can't be that dumb; the question is: what is his agenda? Or, maybe he is that dumb. He's definitely white.
Rating: Summary: A Great Way to Get Young People Reading!! Review: As a high school English teacher, anything I can do to get my students to read on their own is worth it. That said, I have had a few students who have read this baby at my recommendation and have thoroughly enjoyed it, even while they were learning something! Mike does a good job of slamming both the Republicans and Democrats, as both parties are increasingly resembling each other. Hopefully, this book will inspire more people to vote in the election of 2004, so we don't have another "stupid white man" raping the land and enraging the rest of the world.
Rating: Summary: SOMEBODY has to get out there & tell the truth! Review: He's absolutely right on so many fronts - I'm so glad he wrote this book and that it's selling well. It shows there's hope - a little - for America. This, in combination with Micah Wright's "Back the Attack: Remixed War Propoganda," makes me think that maybe Americans WILL stand up to the attacks on civil liberties and corporate welfare that are going on in America today. Thank heavens for Michael Moore! Keep up the great work!
Rating: Summary: An affront to all non-bigots. Review: 300 pages of anti-white Bolshevism from a disgusting, self-hating white. Any African-American or female readers who enjoy this book are inveterate hypocrites. Any white men who enjoy this book deserve the title. For Moore to imply that the passengers on the two WTC planes were cowards is unforgivable. Any black man who spoke this way about his own race and sex would rightly be recognized as a self-loathing, sycophantic sell-out. Keep that in mind.
Rating: Summary: Every American needs to read this book! Review: After viewing Michael Moore's tremendously entertaining and infuriating film "Bowling for Columbine," I checked out this book. And, boy, I am sure glad I did! Michael Moore is a skillful communicator, and a true patriot! And more than that, he has inspired me to get more involved in the politics of our nation and world. This book awakened me to the fact that so many of us Americans freely give away our power on a regular basis by not voting, and, to be specific, by allowing an unqualified, unelected rich man to hold the office of the President of the United States of America. We Americans take so much for granted...and we directly and indirectly victimize so many people to maintain our safe-inside-the-bubble lifestyles. And many of our most powerful politicians are more concerned with keeping corporations happy, and keeping rich people rich, than tackling our society's woes, and really improving the U.S. from the bottom up. Moore's fantastic book sheds some seriously needed light on many, many topics that the American people need to think long and hard about. And Moore does the research to back up each and every statement he makes. Moore is not just some hack spouting ideas on a whim; he has thought long and hard about everything in the book, and he took the time to make himself extremely informed about these subjects. On the converse, if you are someone who believes that Blacks belong in the back of the bus, gay people belong in the closet, and rich people belong on top...well, then, you probably won't agree with most of what Moore has to say. But I would indeed challenge you to read this book anyway, if for no other reason than to argue with those of us who agree with what the books says. Also, I have noted that some reviewers have cited portions of Michael Moore's book as being "anti-American," which is the furthest thing from the truth. The topics that Moore discusses are things that the American people need to think about. And questioning our officials, elected or not, is a cornerstone of behaving like an American! And there is nothing anti-American about a thing in Moore's book! Anyone who believes otherwise is ignorant and afraid of hearing the truth. So, wake up, America! We are better than we are being treated! Read this book...get inspired...get involved! Something to remember: until very recently, George W. Bush (read: the leader of the free world) believed Africa, the second largest continent on the planet, was a country. I hope that scares you...it should!
Rating: Summary: An Incisive Reflection Review: NOTICE THAT THE RATINGS ARE PRETTY MUCH EITHER 5-STAR, OR 1-STAR. Michael Moore shoves a mirror in front of America's face and what we see in the reflection is not only amusing, but disturbing. And all of the republicans I've spoken with about Stupid White Men, get very flustered about it, while liberals just love it, hence the 5-star, 1-star dichotomy. He not only includes a several page bullet-point list of all of the acts against the greater public interest committed by GWB, but also shows us that Clinton was no angel either. Not because of the diminutive oral pleasure episode but for actual political reasons. I am not a green party supporter, but recognized the faults of the democrats, in addition to that of the republicans that Moore points out as well. A very entertaining reflection of American politics, and the massive failure of politician's to not work for the greater good of the ENTIRE public, not just the wealthy but the good old middle class that buys the stuff that makes the rich, rich. Buy this book, and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Stupid for sure Review: Thank God for free speach! Only in America could a clown like Moore have a book like this published. Not part of the solution Mr. Moore continues to degrade the fabric of this country with his silly little book of fiction. Good for a fast read when you have nothing better to do than stare at the vacuum tube. I see why GM moved out of Flint. Michael Moore is the Stupid White Man.
Rating: Summary: Combining humor with incisive insights into today's America Review: Moore has a superb sense of humor and discusses all of the absurd socio-political aspects with unfettered sincerity. Indeed, his discussion of how Dubya (aka Bush Jr.) and his pals "stole" the election will have you laughing out loud whether you are a conservative or liberal or whatever else along the political spectrum. The section called Idiot Nation is probably the funniest and scariest chapter as the facts and figures that Moore mentions (such as the state of the nation's ivy league graduates) are nothing of short of shocking. One would think Harvard and Princeton students would have at least a rudimentary grasp of American history, politics, science, and literature. What Moore reveals is pretty surprising. He makes other hilarious parallels such as discussing how millions of Americans can recite obscure sports trivia, but don't know when the Civil War was fought or where Afghanistan is on a map. You'll be somewhat surprised to read that a prominent proponent of teaching classical literature in schools (a conservative newsman named Barnes who is a semi-regular on the MacLaughlin Group and who voices concerns about teaching world literary works rather than teaching the established classics) who fears that future students will not know what the Iliad is admits to not having read the book or anything by Homer and not even knowing what it's about! Just a tad hypocritical, yes? Another superb section is devoted to the Democratic Party, which gave up the ideological fight and has been co-opting the Republican and conservative position on a number of key issues such as the death penalty, gun control, taxes, and welfare. In effect, the Democrats have shifted to the center and thus there is no longer a viable American leftist movement other than at the grassroots level. Does Moore exaggerate when he calls Clinton one of the best Republican presidents ever? Perhaps, but he drives home the point that the state of American politics is that the right-wing movement in this country has pulled the mainstream to the right and done so by making words like "liberal" synonymous with communist! In other words caring about your fellow man and being tolerant of other people and their beliefs is a bad thing, while wanting to hoard as much wealth and material possessions as possible while waving a flag and seeking to incorporate religion into secular institutions such as schools is a "good" thing. So there is a recession on, but as Moore correctly points out, the wealthy elites remain untouched, while the masses take the bad news and simply go on because the news tells them that everybody is having a tough time! Moore is tireless crusader, willing to fight the good fight against the very hypocrites who claim that things are just fine as they are.
