Rating: Summary: Stupid WhiteMen...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of t Review: This rather poor attempt at being a political activist by a delatante intellectual who thinks that the present administration is corrupt has a memory about as long as his manhood. President Clinton kept a misstress and sold out the country to china while he smiled and pretended to be a movie star. His morals and his treasonous provided the perfect behavior and atmosphere for the liberal falacy to proliferate. This Book writen by a stupid white man who is without doubt an expert at stupidity , so it is only right that he should appoint himself as the spokesman for the stupid white men and write a book that only idiots like he would ever read . The title attracted me but the book was a sham . Michael Moore should move out of the country and bring Babs and her cronies with him to Iraq so we could take care of two serious threats to the well being of our country and its peaceful existence with a few bombs well placed.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but scattered Review: Michael Moore has an uncanny ability for finding hypocricies and presenting them in an entertaining way. STUPID WHITE MEN is not much different in this regard from his recent documentary BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE or his first film, ROGER AND ME. But like those films, the final product seems a bit less than its parts. While pointing out trouble spots in American culture, he often stops short of developing a real coherent thesis. His work seems scatter-brained at times, as if written by a highly intelligent teenager with ADD. Moreover, he often seems more prone to attack high-profile figures than to pursue deep, underlying causes. He's an important figure for the very fact that SOMEONE needs to make the case for gun control and other issues; but I often wish he would stick to a point and develop it more thoroughly, instead of degenerating into theatrical fireworks and partisan name-calling. The left in America is currently without real spokespeople, and I think it would be unfortunate if Moore were to assume the role. He's a solid entertainer and this book is a good read--but readers looking for enlightenment may be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Review: This is a must read. It is a refreshing book, considering that most mass media is grossly conservative in nature (despite the ridiculous claims that the liberals are taking over). He tells the truth, and backs it up with FACTS...something clearly missing from the ultra-conservative, emotional, whiny rantings of Savage, Coulter, Limbaugh, and the like. I gave copies of this book for gifts, that's how much I reccommend it. A true accomplishment for the filmmaker of "Bowling For Columbine".
Rating: Summary: He's a Prophet; he's a poet. Review: Michael Moore is a Prophet and a Poet, if not a thorough researcher and footnoter. I was amused that a self-proclaimed New Yorker (not native) could be so naive as to believe that commercial airline pilots make no more than $20k per year. There are a lot of other chuckles in this book too. It was fun to read. It has something for almost everyone, the extreme right wing excluded. My favorite line is on page 199: "It was just business as usual, under a national press that's thoroughly asleep at the wheel." Amen. Amen. Amen. I agree with many of his views and disagree with others. But whatever his views, Michael Moore gets an A+ for the courage to take a stand in the "please-everybody-all-the-time" phase this country seems to be going through. He's also a very talented writer. It's a great book.
Rating: Summary: The Book is written by a stupid for stupid people. Review: I am also a very open mind when it comes to politics but this book it's stupid. He has no brain and I wonder who published this garbage. Money I suppose, because it is in faction to be against the USA and President Bush.
Rating: Summary: The "Mein Kampf" for the liberals Review: Don't waste your money. I am glad that Michael Moore hates our president and our country. Perhaps that will encourage him to move to France, where he will fit in quite well. Hitler had his "Mein Kampf" and Michael Moore has his "Stupid White Men...". Of course, I don't think anyone will be reading this book decades after it was written! I would like to point out the Michael Moore is white and a man. Need I say more?
Rating: Summary: I bought this book and now I feel like a STUPID white man!!! Review: I bought this book because I thought maybe Michael had something new to say and I was pretty fed up with the current administration.....I didn't think anyone could make Clinton look good. However, after purchasing this book I can see that Michael only wants to become the Rush Limbaugh of the Liberals. , spouting the same old rhetoric as if there is a difference between the two parties. When will people wake up and see that the people running our country and corporate America today (both Republicans and Democrats) are nothing more than a bunch of greedy, self-serving, theiving, Nazi thugs.
Rating: Summary: Written by a pretty stupid white man! Review: The title of this book says it all and reminds me why this country is in such a mess. People like him, prejudiced against anyone from the South (..."we know nothing good comes from the South.") Michael Moore overcompensates for his insecurity by berating all things conservative or traditional! The author's elitist attitude is abominable; his discussion of people outside of his circle of liberal friends is cruel and unfair. He makes the foolish assumption that intellectual persons feel exactly as he does about everything under the sun. Women have known for centuries that white men can be stupid, this white author exceeds the limitation of ignorance!
Rating: Summary: Thank You Michael Moore Review: It is a big relief to be able to laugh in the midst of such a horrible and disastrous time. Thank you so much for bringing a smile to my face when for so many days all I have been doing is crying.
Rating: Summary: A Polemic Review: Webster's defines as a polemic as "an aggressive attack on the principles or opinions of another." Books such as "Stupid White Men" (on the left) and "Slander" (on the right) exemplify polemics: they preach to the converted, are dogmatic and self-righteous, and are generally one-sided. I gave "Stupid White Men" three stars because, while polemical and strident, it's funny as heck also. However, I would recommend any partisan, whether leftist or rightist, to consider reading the United Nation's Human Development Report (hdr.undp.org) to place such critiques of the American system in context. The United Nations began the Human Development Index (HDI) in order "to draw attention away from the more usual economic statistics to focus instead on human outcomes, not economic data. The HDI was created to re-emphasize that people and their lives should be the ultimate criteria for assessing the development of a country, not economic growth." Sounds like something Mike Moore would agree with? The HDI rates each country according to a variety of factors, including levels of education, quality of life, and longevity. What might surprise Mike Moore and other critics of America's capitalist system is that the US ranks #6 overall in human development. Liberals like Moore often tell us that America is the land of stunning inequality, divided between the "truly needy and the truly greedy." They often point to "progressive" Western European nations as their models, with their "cradle-to-grave" welfare systems. However, the United Nations ranks human development in the US higher than in the Netherlands (#8), Switzerland (#11), France (#12), Denmark (#14), Germany (#17), and Italy (#20). Other statistics tend to refute Moore's argument that wealthy white men run the country on the backs of the poor, and the US is one of the most unequal countries in the world. The US spends about as much money (as a percentage of GDP) on education as France, and more than Britain, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, and Italy. Most of this is spent to provide free education to minors. Moore tries to depict the US as a country where the "ordinary guy" can't get ahead. But if employment is necessary to personal advancement and human dignity, then Americans are truly blessed. Unemployment rates are defined as the number of people who want a job but can't get one. Here are the unemployment rates of various developed nations in 2000: Spain 14.1%; Italy 10.7%; France 9.5%; Germany 7.5%; Belgium 7%; and Canada 6.8%. The unemployment rate in the US at the same time? Just 4%. Even during the recent recession, unemployment remained lower in the US. Moore's title, "Stupid White Men," suggests that men reign supreme in the US. But the United Nations rates America as one of the four nations in the world with the GREATEST EQUALITY between men and women, in terms of equality of income, education, and life expectancy. While the US ranked #4 in this index, France rated #11, Britain #12, Denmark #13, Germany #16, and Israel #22. America is not perfect. Crime levels are still higher here than in Europe or Japan, and we can't seem to beat our addiction to gas and oil. But at the same time the US is nothing like the caricature of inequality and oppression drawn by Moore, Nader, and other left-wing polemicists. In fact, according to the UN, it's one of the best places in the world to live.
