Summary: Michael is right on the money!
Review: If you'd like to get an idea of what shape our country is in and how it got there this is a great place to start.

Michael's use of humor and fact really get his points across to the reader. I found it hard to put the book down.

Summary: One of the Best of the Type
Review: Page after page of truth, love and pro American thoughts that should make all Republican's cringe when reading it. The author tells it like it is and the truth hurts especially when talking about the Bush rerun Presidency. This author has never walked away from talking about issues that may be a bit uncomfortable and this book is no exception. I just can not say enough good things about the book. I read it in one weekend and reread it the following week. The only negative I have is that it makes me so mad at some of the things that have gone on over the last two years. If you are a proud American that loves the country buy and read this book now

Summary: disappointing, racist, sexist and not funny
Review: I was expected a good natured laugh or serious facts. Instead, I got a long racist, sexist diatribe of political correctness, since he only bashes whites and men. Now I know how blacks feel about the "Uncle Toms" who shuffle and grin for the massah. This pathetic guy humiliates himself in a desperate attempt to "be cool" with the liberal crowd.

It doesn't work. Hey Mike, guess what? You're white, and male, like it or not. If everything you say is true, then nobody can trust you since by your own logic you must be a thief and a liar.

Take off your dress and remove the blackface, Mikey. Ah, who am I kidding? He only says these things to make money. It's right there in the book. He's a white male, so he wants to control the liberal movement and make lots of money manipulating people and their opinions. That's what he says being a white male is all about, so we must believe this comes from self-knowledge.

Summary: Not Even Good Propaganda
Review: This book comes off as the ramblings of socialist who truly is out in "left field". Good propaganda should at least try to be convincing. I found his arguments devoid both of reality and humor. The far left may enjoy this book, and I mean far left. For everyone from moderate-liberals to ultra-conservatives (who aren't much different) this is a testament of how out of touch with reality the far left end of the spectrum can be.

"Stupid White Men" really is as far as you need to read. It goes down hill from there. One race of stupid people to blame for all the problems of the nation? That sounds familiar...maybe he's a closet fascist? It's that same kind of mean-spirited whining that goes through the entire book that we are supposed to find "funny". Good propaganda should at least try to sway people to its way of thinking. Moore is just silly, divisive, mean-spirited and quite frankly...boring.

Summary: As a Liberal, I found this book racist and sexist
Review: Any true Liberal knows that the cure for racism and sexism isn't to turn it onto those who practice it, thereby giving it legitimacy. This book was not funny, at all. It was a serious in tone, sloppily written, and ill thought out rant. This is the kind of polarizing race baiting and sexism that one would expect the right to employ, and I ashamed that is was done in the name of Liberalism.

A book entitled "Stupid Black Women" would not be appropriate, or accepted. Those supporting this kind of rhetoric are responsible for legitimatizing the continuation of racism and sexism.

Summary: no, no, read "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" instead
Review: "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" by Al Franken was really funny, and I couldn't wait to read this book for more of the same! Only this book isn't funny. It is virulently racist, sexist, and hateful. I mean, it's OK, because it's only racist against whites, and sexist against men. It's still politically correct. However, I thought the title was a joke. It's not. He's dead serious. He believes that white men are the root of all evil, in this country and worldwide. He isn't joking.

Imagine a book entitled "Stupid Black Women" that seriously attacked black women as the root of all crime, raising bastard children with no morals. Imagine a book that said this very seriously, much less in "fun" -- what would you think?

That is what this book is: seriously racist and sexist.

If you are a true Liberal, you will be sickened by this book, and I suggest you read it at your public library so as not to encourage Mr. Moore, who in a strange way proves his point by having written such a book. There really are stupid white men ruining this country: they are like him.

Summary: Moore is a master satirist, and bright political mind
Review: I approached this book not quite knowing how to take Moore. I've just heard bits and pieces, I didn't know if he's more of a personality like a left wing PJ O'Rourke, or if he is more of a serious political thinker with a personality. I make a case that he's the latter. While very funny and entertaining (as he is with his movies) he makes a clear point, backing it up with facts that are hard for the right wing to deny and explain. Moore comes across as an angry citizen fighting for the little man in society, the people whose jobs are getting taken away, the people who are getting taxed unlike the rich and the big corporations who donated lots of bucks to Bush. He also takes on topics that most politicians are afraid of, like racism in America and Moore is never condescending, except of course to the right wing few who own this country, and must be peeing thier pants about such a great book as this. Keep up the good work Moore, and please don't make this your last book, we need to hear your unique voice, because your clarity and humor are a breath of fresh air for those on the left-wing who are getting discouraged with the democrats sliding towards the right. Read this book!!!

Summary: Glib
Review: This book has about 10-15 pages of useful information regarding government policy, contacting government officials, etc. However, the bulk of this book is a rant or whine that becomes tiresome. When MM is still writing quotations around the title "President" (referring to GW Bush) 150 pages into the book, it's time to let it go. His wit is short-lived and information too sporadic. Interesting how MM insults the rich - yet after movie and book deals, what is he?
Somehow Michael Moore was able to drop out of college simply because he could not find a parking space. Many of us would enjoy that type of luxury.
Buy this book used. There are many copies available. Do not keep this type of sub-par material on the NY Times Bestseller list any longer.

Summary: Refreshing and direct: Moore's polemic hits the spot
Review: This book has hit the best-seller slot in several countries, and has also just won the non-fiction Book of the Year prize in the UK. I can see why. It's not that anything Moore says is especially new or challenging - at least, not to a UK reader. Over here, many of the things he discusses, and in particular the sad state of electoral practice in Florida, has been very widely reported.

What is really refreshing about Stupid White Men is that it emerges from the US, where much of this sort of dissenting view is stifled: by the media, by politicians, by conservative thinkers. In a land which prides itself on its Bill of Rights which, among other things, guarantees freedom of expression to its citizens, critics of government policy are being silenced. Academic critics of American foreign policy, for example, are witch-hunted and hounded out of their jobs.

In such an environment, it is amazing that Moore's book got published, and indeed in his foreword he explains the way in which his US publisher attempted to censor, and then bury, his book. Interestingly, once it shot to the top of the best-seller list, they were happy enough to print additional copies; it just shows that the almighty dollar is supreme, after all.

Of course, much of what he says can be applied to many Western democracies, which means that at times it's hard-hitting. But it's good to reflect and be critical of the world around us, and to look for ways in which we can change that world. Moore's book should be compulsory reading for anyone who's not happy about the state of the world today and wants to know why. Buy it!

Summary: Never has a book title so aptly reflected the author...
Review: Misleading "facts", emotionally-based opinions and very little else - which is really a shame.

I'm a European ex-pat, living in the US, and I was present during the election debacle. Yes, we KNOW it wasn't exactly "above board"...and yes, we know that the family ties linking the President to various self confessed extreme right wingers are stronger than steel...but Moore could have (and should have) chosen a much different formula in getting his message across, and some of the blatantly misleading facts he offers are something I'd expect from a 10th grader - not a respected journalist.

Sadly, the book reads like yet another "Stupid White Man's" pity party, and fails to give a solid or even factually accurate representation of the US.

I gave this book two stars - because in some places the material has great comedic value. But if you're looking for an accurate critique of the nation, save your money.
