Summary: No Redeeming Features In This Book
Review: Humorless humor, silly mud-slinging, and smug self-absorption mark Moore's book as a classic look into typical Baby-Boomer type ideas of what is funny, what is wrong with the country, and what to do about it. He drones on, and on, and on with endless quips and uncomplimentary "facts" about American politicions, icons, and institutions. Is he stuck in the 60's (or 70's}?

It's not whether--what--he writes about U.S. presidents, politicians, corporate types, etc. is fact or fiction. Or, whether his proposed solutions to our problems are good or bad--or even workable. It's just that--how--he writes it is so utterly, utterly tedious, unfunny, and juvenile.

I have no idea as to the veracity of Moore's "facts" mentioned above. However, if the same lack of depth, as that found in his style and humor, is buried in his facts, are they then to be believed? The stuff in this book--like the weather--is known to everyone, and talked about by everyone. So what? It just isn't good reading. In this case, not good writing either.

Summary: All hail Michael Moore!!
Review: First off, if there's any justice, Michael Moore will get the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for "Bowling For Columbine."

Now that that's out of the way, this was the best book that I got to read last year. Michael does his research and it shows. After reading it, you can be sure of at least one thing. George W. Bush was not elected as President, he was appointed. This, now more than ever, is a perfect time to read the book considering the war that none of us want to see fought is about to begin. Once you read this book, you will be impatiently waiting for the current administration to be gone and not cause anymore damage beyond one term. After all, George W. Bush seems to be the mother of all Stupid White Men. He makes me ashamed to be an American sometimes. The facts that he uncovers makes you believe that certain admministration officials have greedy prospects in mind for this war (oil anybody?), and that we as Americans are not really all that innocent or are really the victims here. We as Americans will have blood on our hands as well when we end up going to war.

The world around us has become so corporate and so demeaning that human beings have become more like products than living organisms. Human life is cheap indeed. Even children are exploited for corporate gains as explained in this book. To call Michael Moore a leftist would not be entirely accurate because he is every bit as hard on Democrats (rightfully so) as he is on Republicans. Everyone is a target for Moore, and it's hard to disagree with him.

Let's all hope that this is not his last book, and that he will write many more.

Summary: Self titled? He's white?
Review: The first bit about the Bush election was interesting but after that it became clear the Michael has fallen into the same simple minded, whiny, pattern that so many of the hollywood stars have today. I mean he's whining because someone in Bushes cabinet has 50K in stocks... Please grow up your not 15 working at the local burger joint anymore. If your 40 and don't have 50k in stocks then your in big trouble when retirement time comes. This book was so bad I took it back. I didn't want to support this "Stupid White Man"

Summary: What a cry baby
Review: After seeing an interview with Michael Moore I decided to check his book out. I couldn't even finish the book. All he seems to do is vent about his hatred to George W. Bush. I kept thinking maybe he'll move on to something else when I turn the page. Nope. There are few pages that don't completely criticize Bush. There were some funny ideas and some good points made (that's why I gave it 2 stars). But don't buy this book. Check it out from a library or borrow it from someone unfortunate enough to have bought it.

Summary: What a joke
Review: Michael Moore wouldn't know a fact if it bit him in the...! He's just ANOTHER angry, bitter liberal who can't stand the fact that a good man is in the White House. I'd be willing to bet that he'd still love Clinton if he saw Billy Jeff club a bunch of baby seals, hit on another intern, and shoot a random pedestrian... just as long as he didn't smoke.

You leftists have spent too long blurring the lines between RIGHT AND WRONG, and forgotten which is which. Enjoy your Kool-Aid!

Summary: Important ideas, I just wish he was smarter about it
Review: Vintage Michael Moore. Fair warning - this book is for democrats who can see past heavy-handed alarmist writing in order to get to the funny jokes. He carves into how Bush got into office, and what his administration has done since. Later in the book he hits hard against Clinton as well, but mostly as a defense of Ralph Nader. He liters the book with a lot white male hating liberal guilt. If that's not your bag, then just try to tolerate it as part of Moore's personal style.

My only objection to the way he argues is that he will frequently use specious questionable data to promote a broad idea. He needs a counter balance to keep him honest. The book deserves a few stars because it is funny and his points are certainly worthwhile. But like other critics here, I thought Al Franken was funnier and more level-headed.

Summary: Crap.
Review: Michael Moore rants and raves against all things right of center without adding anything cinstructive. No answers just complaining and virtues of being on the far left. He disparages anyone well off except the those ultra left elitist.

Plain garbage. Its unfortunate that after a pretty good TV series that made yuo think he writes this junk wich thnks for you.

Summary: Can One Man GET Any Dumber?
Review: If it were possible, I'd strongly encourage the makers of the film, DUMB & DUMBERER, to go back in time and cast Michael Moore in both roles.

What I find interesting about Moore is that he's convinced that pounding his head against the wall works. It appears as if he honestly believes that, if he does it long enough and hard enough, society will eventually crumble and cower beneath what he perceives as his own gargantuan intellect ... basically just a wiseacre mind disguising Communist ideals.

Still, the book would've worked if Moore had stuck to what he does best: stand-up comedy. He's downright funny when he needs to be, but, unlike the superb Dennis Miller, his words carry little weight when he's arguing the state of world affairs. Despite what he would have you believe, "one man does not a democracy make," unless you're living on a very small island and willing to live by very limiting visions.

This book is not intended for adults with a brain.

Summary: A superb book
Review: I think that people that have given this book a one star rating have missed the whole point of the book. Also it's clear that those that view Mr Moore as "the extreme left" also have no idea what left and right are in terms of politics.

Moore is a modern thinker, someone who clearly sees where the US has gone wrong. He is not racist, he is showing us the level of racism that exists in this fine country as well as the other negative points that are sending the US down the tubes.

All the great thinkers of any era have started out upsetting a few people and I think between Mike Moore and Peter Singer they are probably upsetting their fair share.

I guess what I am trying to say is, that this book is clear and honest as to what the state of the nation is today and I think if you read it with an open mind then you will see the book for what it really is.........a commentary on todays society.

To call him left wing or racist is just too far off the mark. How Moore writes about the US in this book is exactly what the rest of the world sees but someone it's own citizens miss.

Amazing insights.

Summary: Those without a sense of a humor, just keep walking.
Review: Seriously.

Michael Moore has done an excellent job in this book. He fearlessly points out our own faults at us, and gives us advice on fixing it. It may seem cruel, but keep in mind, his advice is in JOKE form. ...
