Rating: Summary: Very irritating. Liked it. Review: There is a fair amount I find rather annoying about this book, that I find annoying about Moore generally. But I think that's actually his strong point. He's a pain in the behind. His style reminds me very much of that other great American loudmouth Frank Zappa, from whose Real Frank Zappa Book he may have stolen some of his crazed, gonzo energy. The rant style is a bit wearisome at times - not all of us are converted by a one sided argument. However I can't help feeling that the Right will always be stronger in America for as long as they have a writer as funny as PJ O'Rourke. Moore's not there yet...
Rating: Summary: One smart white man Review: This book is mainly just one long rant by Moore, but I found it entertaining and insightful. Moore's wry sense of humor has never been better. However, I'm only giving it four stars because the whining does get a little annoying after a while. Nonetheless, Moore makes a strong case that the policies of the Bush and Cheney White House are, well, not too smart. ... Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind".
Rating: Summary: Stating the Obvious Review: Michael Moore, gadfly for my generation, has pretty much written his last book ever. In Stupid White Men, he does nothing but state the obvious: that the world is owned by stupid white men. He isn't making any friends, except from the disenfranchised of the world. What does one do when one's back is up against the wall? Speak the truth. I have no doubt about any of the information in this book. Sure, I'm a fan of his, but I have read every one of his books, and the pattern that emerges from his writings is that he will tell the truth no matter what any of the Rich White Guys say.
Rating: Summary: Poorly written and illogical Review: I picked up this book to get a better understanding regarding the state of the nation and realized this book was an absolute joke! The book is written with poor grammer by someone who appears to have less than a high school education. In fact, the author admits in the book that he dropped out of high school. The book is rather entetaining but contains very subjective and illogical arguments. Read another book by someone with a little more intelligence!
Rating: Summary: Wake-Up America! Review: I truly enjoyed reading Michael Moore's recent book and am thrilled to see how long it has lasted on the Best Seller's lists. It certainly says something about George W.'s true support. Moore does an excellent job of gleefully exposing the corruption fueled by corporate greed in our present political system. Most importantly, Moore offers inspiration for the common citizen to take charge and make changes. A good example of two citizens who took heed of Mr. Moore's message is the authors of "Be Careful Who You SLAPP." That is an incredible story of two "little guys" who struggled to expose corporate corruption and abuse of the legal system in the heart of Silicon Valley. If you liked "Stupid White Men" for its battle cry against abuse of our fine legal system, you will love "Be Careful Who you SLAPP," the story of two individuals who took charge of their own struggle for Constitutional rights against the onslaught of a corporate abuse.
Rating: Summary: Informative and entertaining Review: Michael Moore seems to be a sincere advocate for the poor and disenfranchised and Stupid White Men makes some really important points and asks some hard questions that seem to go unanswered by those in power. Michael Moore uses wit and a touch of sarcasm to analyze the politics and thinking process guiding the United States today and, with the exception of Chapter 7 (The End of Men), his book touches serious issues, never loosing his sense of humor in the process. He exposes the hypocrisy of politicians and explains very clearly why paying a decent wage makes sense for us all. Even if one doesn't agree with everything he says or his way of saying it, you gotta admit he makes any reasonably intelligent person think. And Michael's heart is in the right place. He also bravely admits his weak moments in life such as when he met Jeb Bush or when he was fired by Ralph Nader. Yet he never held a grudge against Nader whom he later backed for president. Overall, a very good book.
Rating: Summary: don't waste your time Review: Don't waste your time on this book, Moore is a hack!
Rating: Summary: If you're upset about what's going on in America, read this. Review: This book simply blew me away. It is so hot, it could cause a revolution, and Moore will be its messiah with a clown's face. The people who don't get his humor can only be stuffed shirt bigoted neo-conservatives. They might as well be wearing blinders, and they don't even need any teeth because they just swallow, like baby food, all the puréed news that is delivered on US TV and in most newspapers. This guy is trying to take your blinders off, fellas! And he's trying to give you your teeth back.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but some factual errors are distracting Review: Michael Moore's polemic against the Bush administration and white men in general is entertaining and often right on target, but some glaring factual errors distract one from his points. He says, for example, that a woman has never been a candidate for president or vice president in the United States. Has he forgotten about Geraldine Ferraro? She was Walter Mondale's running mate and a candidate for vice president. He also goes on at length about how things haven't gotten any better for the African American, which I don't believe is supported by the facts. Entertaining, yes. Informative? Often, but not always.
Rating: Summary: Mike Runs Riot Review: Another laudable effort, very much along the lines of his previous work, Downsize This. It's irreverant (with provocative chapters like "All American Coup" and "Dear George"), blunt, humourous and ofcourse enlightening. With S.W.M., Moore establishes himself as one of the foremost political satirists of the day.
