Rating: Summary: Terribly inaccurate Review: Although Moore's book is categorized as a comedy and not a serious work of non-fiction it nevertheless uses facts, figures and polls to draw political conclusions. That would be fine, except that Moore has taken several liberties with the truth and the facts. These disparities include, creating facts that do not exist, manipulating evidence to prove a political agenda, and simple lying. If purchasing this book, please remember that this book is a comedy and should not be taken for anything else.
Rating: Summary: worth reading Review: Honestly, for me some of the chapters were interesting and some of them dragged. That is the way most books are. The First chapter was very good. It is on the problems in Florida, and it made me angry at the American media. Moore writes about an innacurate fellon list. If that list wasn't used Al Gore would probably be president. That is as far as I can go into detail or my review might not be allowed for giving up to much of the plot.
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore is one stupid white man Review: Michael Moore hates America, and this book proves it. Full of distortions and socialist propaganda, Moore tries to deconstruct America as we know it. Just so you aren't blinded by his (and others') ignorance, Bush did not steal the 2000 election. He won it fair and square, and Gore was just a "Sore Loserman". And legally, Bush won all 25 of Florida's electoral votes. And for pete's sake, he won't even recognize Bush as the leader of our country, referring to him as "President" Bush. This fact alone makes me sick. When you don't acknowledge your leaders, what's the point of staying here? Maybe he'd be happier in France, where the government is a lot more socialist and the people stink like he does. Michael Moore distorts many of his facts. "There is no recession, my friends. No downturn. No hard times. The rich are wallowing in the loot they've accumulated in the past two decades, and now they want to make sure you don't come a-lookin' for your piece of the pie." WHAT??? The recession is just a figment of your imagination and is a ploy by the rich to get richer? Good Lord, anyone can see that America is currently in an economic slump, whether liberal or conservative. If he can't see reality clearly maybe he should get some nifty new glasses that help him spot recessions a whole lot better. (Spinsanity.org has a whole lot of proof that Moore's book is full of lies and deceit.) And speaking of distorting facts, his Academy Award-winning documentary "Bowling for Columbine" was full of distorted facts and altered events for a more dramatic effect. His film shouldn't have been nominated in the first place because of these reasons. And his disgraceful acceptance speech at the Academy Awards proves he has no respect for our leader and country either. If he can't make a documentary to portray real facts, I don't want to know what he did in this book. Michael Moore also paints white men as the enemy of America. He goes on about how he has never been robbed, mugged, threatened, etc. by a black man -- they've all been white men. I speak for a lot of folks when I say that very few people have been treated like this in their life and to make such claims is a bunch of bunk. Reader beware. Unless you want to be deceived by a bunch of socialist propaganda and anti-American sentiment, go ahead and read this book to increase your level of stupidity.
Rating: Summary: Full of Baloney Review: Michael Moore is certainly off-beat with the majority of people in this country. Lucky he lives where he is free to share his views. I'll be sure to donate my copy to the local library so no one else has to waste their money purchasing it.
Rating: Summary: Silly, trite, angry book Review: This is a silly book ...If one wants an inflammatory book with corny humor than this might be for you. It reminds me of Al-Jezeer news coverage of the Iraq war. Trueth doesn't matter. The objective is to say things in an attempt to justify hatred, occupy enough of the reader's time so they won't be able to read or listen to more comprehensive coverage of the facts, and to incite enough suspicion to deter people from accepting reality.
Rating: Summary: Yet again, the ... opens his mouth Review: The fool has done it again. He has succesfully yapped and yapped and never made a truthful statement, typical of liberals these days. Not only this, but it also follows the traditional drift of liberal nonsense, whining and more whining. Bush was elected by the laws of the land, if you're upset, don't yell at Bush, he didn't have the power to change anything (Clinton, and every president and official before him did). And as far as his ideas, perhaps all those people out there who are lazy, and most likely ignorant, should get off their butts and get an education like their bosses (the smart ones who figured out you have to work hard to make money, this would include the time you spend learning. But no they didn't, and now they wonder why they can't make money, so no they whine and cry and somehow blame their own stupidity on people who had nothing to do with their education. But this is only half the problem, the other half is that we seem to be encouraging this rampant stupidity in our nation by subsidizing it. If this continues, as it obviosly will if Moore, and the rest of the liberal loonies gets their way, we will become not only a stupid nation, but a poor one!
Rating: Summary: biting social satire for us all Review: As a centerist moderate right winger, no I don't agree with every point Micheal Moore makes. But because we are blessed to live in a country in which all people have a freedom to speak their mind, Micheal Moore is a godsend. "Stupid White Men" is a scathing, articulate and brilliantly funny social satire that attacks every possible target, including Micheal Moore himself. His writing is clear, clever and well supported as is his ability to turn a phrase. Whether one agrees with Moore or not (and as I said previously, I certainly don't) is simply not the issue, he provides an extremely fascinating, inspiring and entertaining call to arms for all people to voice their opinions and take social action. We must all be willing to take an active role in our society, perhaps as active as Moore himself. The time to be passive consumers of mass culture has ended and we must all ante up and kick in. I believe this is Moore's ultimate message and he delivers it with wit and bite. A great weekend read to spure debate over the water cooler. Have at it!
Rating: Summary: Not a funny book Review: This is a great book of you are in the choir and like getting preached to. I'm sorry, but this book seemed rehashed and canned. It felt like I had heard everything before. I also find Moore to be an untrustworthy source, and question his claims. If you don't like Republicans read this for your own succor, but don't take him seriously.
Rating: Summary: Awful Review: This book is terrible, the author rags on Bush, yet makes no sound argument of how he would change things. If you want to read a book by a Democrat ... , buy it, it won't dissapoint.
Rating: Summary: Strong Medicine Review: Gazooks! This man doesn't care for George W. Bush Jr. I have never read so dark an outpouring of loathing for our intellectually mediocre and trigger-happy prez. ... The book is somewhat repetitive, and tries to take on too many issues at once. Its left-leaning ways are a bit knee-jerk, since Moore doesn't take a single conservative stance. That being said, it's nice somewhere out there is writing with passion and erudition in a blase centrist era like ours. The book is also packed with humor, both brutally assaultive and subtly ironic. If a social revolution does get started in America, we'll need Moore's voice adding fuel to the fire.nscientifically conclude that Amazon.com proves Moore's case. I also wonder if these same upset reviewers have not noticed that the "stupid white men" aspect of the book is a gimmick, and that Moore's analyses are either more complicated or, sometimes, intentional parodies of paranoid leftism. He's a wily guy -- white, male, and definitely not stupid. So, inarticulate, palefaced dudes of the far right and smug liberal center, there is hope for you, too: just keep reading and practicing those language-arts drills. The rest of us are just relieved that someone out there is so brilliantly keeping track of the increasing human misery quotient in Dubya's land of the free and home of the brave.argic person." Please don't go home, Mr. Moore. You are irreplaceable!present the wealthiest 1% or the party that seems to represent the wealthiest 10% while having the remaining 90% with no true spokesperson?h the Democrats and Republicans have made much of "welfare reform" in recent years, which did little more than shuffle bottom-scale earners (mostly people of color) into dead-end jobs with no health care or benefits, and removing any responsibility for them from the richest ones at the top (almost all white). Simply put, black and brown people have implicity been held as responsible for the USA's problems (allegedly drugs, street crime, welfare, efc..) when in fact the problems with the USA are systemic (capital/labor inequities, electoral system corruption, corporate welfare handouts, systemic racism.) and are directly the result of policies adapted by those with corporate and goverment power....white heterosexual men. Not women, Not black, Not brown, red or yellow. And yet everybody but white heterosexual men--- women, minorities, lesbigays, unmarried people and others--- get blamed for social and economic ills (also see Pat Buchanan). Moore just thinks it is time for a major, systemic, change in the power structure of the USA. This book puts his argument forward better than "Roger and Me", The Awful Truth," or "Downsize This" ever did. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition
