Rating: Summary: forget about political differences--Just a BAD book! Review: Despite coming to some of the same conclusions that Moore does (albeit by different reasoning), this is just a BAD book. It really is not funny at all. ...It is nothing more than his opinions, but he is not humorous. I agree less with P.J. O'Rourke or Christopher Buckley politically but find them more enjoyable to read. Anyone can rant on without facts or logic and Moore does just this. I particularly find interesting how he categorizes all the "bad guys" into White Men. When he comes up against women or non-Caucasians who are on the "wrong" side, he names then "Honorary White Men." What a jerk!...
Rating: Summary: Reality Check Review: I have an idea for people who criticise this book... How about instead of just making fat jokes about Michael Moore and saying "God Bless America", give factual reasons as to why this book is so horribly wrong.Stupid White Men is one of the few books out that gets to the bottom of what goes on in the United States government. Rather than just spewing ideology, Moore uses statistics and actual cases to back his writings. He provides a good book that is a nice alternative to the conservative bantering of Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh.
Rating: Summary: Truthful and Hilarious Review: I was very impressed with Michael's book. He tells it like it is. Be ready to laugh as you read it. It is hysterical! I don't consider him an "anti-American" - in fact, he is a very caring American. He has been an activist for the American people for a long time. Just because he exposes the truth does not make him "anti-American." We have to be careful when we label people as "anti-American" or "non-patriotic." This book is an eye-opener. Michael gives us an analysis of the state of the nation in an informative manner. You did it again Michael!
Rating: Summary: A Juvenile, Lefty Rant Review: Moore's 'bee-in-the-bonnet' motivation centres on the Republican success over Al Gore in winning the Florida vote. He rants about it in the jacket flaps, the introduction, nearly every chapter and in the epilogue. Bush stole the election. Moore, the quintessential sore loser, just can't get past it. So, Bush and company are arch-evil benefactors of a vast-right-wing-conspiracy. But his 'arguments', being factually suspect (as noted in other reviews), amount to little more than crude, juvenile insults - some of which may have been intended as humour but in the end are just tiresome. Moore even tries to hint at his objectivity - for example on Bush's Florida win, saying "I didn't vote for Al Gore, but I think any fair-minded person would conclude that the will of the people in Florida went his way". Moore certainly didn't vote for Bush. And if he didn't vote for Gore that leaves who? You guessed it .... Ralph Nader. So being far left of Gore is supposed to convince us he's objective towards anything the Republicans do. And if some in the Bush administration don't immediately fit Moore's stupid white man stereotype, for example Colin Powell and Condi Rice, it's because deep down they really are just too ...... well .. white. Moore, like many on the left, has an habitually pessimistic view of the world. No matter what the situation if there's a possibility of being an optimist, neutral or a pessimist he'll choose the latter every time. The glass is not half full, it's half empty or cracked and leaking at an alarming rate! Moore's outlook does not correlate well with the traditional American 'can-do' approach and it's remarkable successes. Instead, in paroxysms of nihilistic self-loathing, Moore sees only gloom and doom - all the fault of stupid white Americans. Don't waste your time and money.
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore Stupid White Men Review: The lowest possible form of humor, gender bashing, people bashing, culture bashing, all I suspect to raise his sense of self-esteem, which must be extremly low. Clearly a person who doesn't understand the concept of cultural tolerance, if you don't fit his mold of humanity you are on his bashing list.
Rating: Summary: Nice autobiography Review: Moore is the epitome of political correctness. He doesn't have to use facts. His opinions are so utterly brilliant that they become facts. I sure wish I were as smart as this genius. I'm anxious for his next book, 'Stupid White Women' to come out. Should be fascinating!
Rating: Summary: Not worth even a cursory glance Review: A friend had this book so I had looked at it while visiting, figuring I would get my own if it was interesting. "Tiring" is the best word I can come up with here. It's so full of hot-air and slanted banter that after a few pages it's already "old". He blames the current President for problems that started during the previous Presidential term. He makes it sound like "truth", but it's all biased and twisted around to the way he wants you to believe. Propaganda, and poorly written all in all, makes me want to warn potential buyers to save your money. BIG thumbs down!
Rating: Summary: Don't be Stupid. Review: A wicked blend of humor and politics from one of the few American political writers in search of the truth behind the spin. If you are a STUPID white man, then of course you won't like this book, but if you are a SMART white, black, brown, etc man/woman/teen and want to know why; -- The Supreme Court chose our last President -- Rumsfeld seems to have more power than Bush -- More money goes to war than education -- Fewer and fewer people own more and more of the world -- Blue collar workers work their fingers to the bone and get paltry wages -- Incompetent CEOs ruin companies yet pay themselves millions ...then this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Don't Bother Review: I have to be honest, after getting to chapter five, I could no longer stomach reading anymore of his book. His writing made me feel as though he was paranoid about everything in America. I consider myself a moderate in most issues and after reading this book I realized that the people in the far left are as dangerous as those in the far right. I am kicking myself for actually buying the book as opposed to getting it at the library.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderfully Entertaining Satirical Book. Review: This is a wonderful book to read. I could hardly set it down. It hits home on many points. Since it was written before 9/11 and the current "War On Terror", it's insight into political happenings has proofed to be quite insightful into what was to be coming. Mr. Moore seems to have an uncanny ability to forecast the trail our so called leaders are leading us down. I would definitely recommend this book.
