Rating: Summary: More important than great Review: Don't miss the point here. Sure, Michael Moore is guilty of certain factual misinterpretations combined with a healthy dose of hyperbole, but anyone who has seen his film Roger and Me or glanced at anything he's done since then knows that is the man's job. He is not trying to be objective, he is not trying to pass himself off as an intellectual, and he did not submit this book in article form to Foreign Affairs. He is simply trying make readers ask themselves some questions, forcing them to either cheer or shout. And if you glance down this page at the list at the emotion praise or criticisms he sparked, he has done just that. This book is more important than it is great. Moore's insight, his talent if you will, is framing complicated problems in a way that is understandable and which forces a response in readers and viewers. Good for him. As far as the complexity of his arguments go, this is the drinkable house wine, your favorite tee-shirt and jeans, a catchy song you've heard a hundred times. But even if it is simple, familiar and even predictable, it is also important. As Moore points out, issues in the world today are not divided cleanly between good and evil, and in that context a well-stated voice of dissention is often more patriotic than wild cheers and applause. So kudos to Moore for speaking out at a time when we have heard too much of the latter and not enough of the former. As any patriot will say, I may not agree with many of the points the man writes in this easy-to-read book, but I'll defend his right to write them. So liberals, conservatives, libertarians, hawks, doves, anarchists, monarchists, oligarchists, numerologists, astrologists, everyone ... read the book, give yourself a moment to think about it and then come back to this page and tell us what you think.
Rating: Summary: Unchallenging Review: Reading books that will simply cement one's views rather than challenge them is an exercise in time wasting. While many of Moore's criticisms do have a degree of legitimacy, by couching them in left-wing platitudes and shibboleths he ensures himself a comfortable position among the converted's choir. Long on ranting and short on analysis, this book will be remembered as nothing more than leftist self-aggrandizement. Examples of Moore's obvious and immature prose are numerous and listed in several other reviews, but the fact that he calls for Antonin Scalia's head on a platter should ward off anyone interested in serious analysis. I should note that many people seem to have recommended Ann Coulter's Slander in substitution of this book. It's charmingly ironic that Moore's right-wing critics would offer up an equally (if not more so) vain, childish and innacurate polemical screed in response.
Rating: Summary: I didn't read this book Review: I didn't read this book, But it's content is so predicatable that I am confident I can write a fairly accurate opinion of it. It is a littany of venmous, hatred of conservatives and apparently "White Men". If Michale Moore's vision on the world was actually come to pass, does he honestly believe he'd have the opportunity to live such a posh existence? The people he hates, conservative-business men (white men, especially), have created the industries he so loths, but is so dependant upon. I've heard the man talk, his thinking is devoid of a logical rationale. In politics, (and in most arenas nowadays), the job of destroying people's reputation is becoming less difficult if that is the sole objective. Lord knows what could be undercovered about Mr. Michael Moore, and I eagerly anticipate it been revealed.
Rating: Summary: What the Dittoheads Don't Want Us To Know! Review: This is one of the best and most enlightening books that I have ever read and it should be required reading for all dittoheads! Moore, in his tougue in cheek yet piercing manner, strategically lays out the crimes of the Bush Dynasty and how our democratic process was preempted in the presidential election of 2002 by Bush and his cronies. Moore outlines beyond a reasonable doubt how the Supreme Court was compromised and thus cast the final blow against a democratic process that should have put Gore in office. Moore meticulously documents the corruption and hypocrisy of Bush and key members of his mafioso administration as well as their gaping conflicts of interest and their subsequent self serving, self enriching actions. Shame on a cowering media and a timid democratic party that doesn't hold Bush and his cronies accountable for their actions before and during the election as well as their ongoing crimes against the environment and our country as a whole. It amazes me how hypocrites like Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield are so quick to send children of lesser means off to fight their wars when they themselves cowered when it was their turn to do their duty to country. Bush should be held accountable for being AWOL while in the National Guard and Cheney should be looking at criminal prosecution for his actions while CEO of Halliburton and their traitorous trade with Iraq. This book will show you the double standard that conservatives by way of persecuting Clinton for sex and a small, two bit failed land deal yet turn the other way as Bush opens the country's vaults to allow his corporate bosses to ignore laws, the environment and the general good of the public in order to line their pockets. Wake up America!!! Moore rules!
Rating: Summary: Liberals will love this. Review: I don't agree with Mr. Moore on his views, but I respect his right to view them. The fact that he completely ignores Clinton as one of the "Stupid White Men" just shows how biased he truly is. That pretty much removes him from any relevance in today's discussions. It boils down to the fact that he just hates Republicans. The book is mildy entertaining and I read it just out of curiosity. After reading what he had to say I wonder why he still wants to live in America. Could it be that he is making a ton of money off of the the very Capitalism that he condemns? What hipocrisy. You will love this stuff if you hate Republicans. His book is a fitting title for himself.
Rating: Summary: More Moore Review: I've been forced to continue to read Mr. Moore's work due to my pursuit of an MBA. I grow weary of his style. He hates Republican's and tries to blame them for all the wrongs of the world. His political agenda is clear. A long time a go he made a very funny, poignant movie "Rodger and Me". He really hasn't produced anything since then that's worth the price. The 'New York Times" has better political editorials. Save your money for something else. This book stinks.
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore's genius Review: This very well researched, highly readable book dares to say things that need to be said. In this age of fear of being branded as unpatriotic for descenting opinions, it is a refreshing and honest book. This book will make you think regardless of your beliefs. GREAT BOOK!!!
Rating: Summary: Michael Moore for President!! Review: Why not? Mike seems to know more about the way things work than that shrub in the White House. This book is only the tip of the iceberg of what has become a major problem in our country, that being the Bush administartion. This book outlines every thing that was done illegally to get Bush elected, and no has would do anything about it. The best thing about Moore is that evertime he opens his mouth, Rush limbaugh and the right-wingers seem like their heads are going to explode. I am shocked Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly have not had a heart attack yet because of Moore. Keep up the good work Mike!!!
Rating: Summary: Frightening Review: I consider myself a moderate. I think both parties are equally to blame for the apathy that exists in this country. Michael Moore, unfortunately, misses the mark with this book. Instead of offering an insight as promised, he skews the truth and downright lies in order to foster the idea that he is an intellectual. He does not want to own up to the errors he's made. He is just a narcissistic liberal who feels he is smarter than everyone else and that people will listen to him because he is so brilliant. I read this book right before he made is inane, idiotic comments at the Oscars. And, some people defend him, saying his comments were so American. Well, I am exercising my right to say he is ignorant. Buy this book if you want to laugh at how self-absorbed someone can be. Avoid it at all costs if such selfishness turns you off.
Rating: Summary: Work Of Genius Review: Moore has a flair for humour, and disarming Neo-conservatives. This is a must buy for those those interested in Politics or the state of the nation...More teachs you more in a couple of minutes then you can imagine, Passion and Heart shine through!
