Rating: Summary: Why waste your money and time on this oaf... Review: when you can read Noam Chomsky or Gore Vidal? Purchasing this clumsy, childish little rant instead of elegant critiques of American Politics such as "Manufacturing Consent" or "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace" is like paying to drink out of a toilet instead of buying a bottle of Dom Perignon.
Rating: Summary: Original¿ unabashed and entertaining as all get out! Review: Michael Moore will never have to worry about being too subtle, nor should he bother applying for a job as a diplomat or arbitrator. But therein lies the appeal of his work. In a society that allegedly decries political correctness, Moore airs his views with a blunt force that can make almost anyone squirm. And while the Dixie Chicks might see fit to apologize or clarify a single off the cuff remark, Michael is unrepentant regarding the positions taken in his films, writings or commentaries. His true talent lies in his ability to be entertaining while lambasting what he sees as the inequities and injustices of American life today. Michael is a proud LIBERAL, who saves some of his ire for alleged leftists whose achievements he judges to be more conservative than liberal. By way of example, some of his best shots are aimed squarely at Bill Clinton, accusing him of being the president that did more to advance the Republican agenda than any of his predecessors. You might not agree with every conclusion that he reaches - I don't - but you have to admire the fact that he can produce a chain of evidence to support his opinions. Granted that the chain might be a little crooked or that a link or two might be a bit tenuous, but Moore goes to more trouble to research and defend his ideas than various high profile commentators of the Right (like Ann Coulter or William Bennett). Even his critics provide fodder when he notes that his first film generate ton's of negative mail for showing the killing of a rabbit (for food), but nary a complaint about the scene in which a black man is shot by police - on camera. If you're unsure about whether to read this book, consider Michael's appearance at the Academy Awards. It's vintage Michael Moore. If you agree with him, buy the book. If you don't agree with what he said but were entertained, buy the book. If his words disturbed you, you might want to just borrow it to browse through. But if you've already smashed all of your Dixie Chicks cd's, don't even bother!

Rating: Summary: BULLSEYE! Review: Michael Moore has one bad habit: Telling the truth in plain English. He is hated by conservatives and their apologists for his in your face delivery of the facts. If his footnotes were put to the test, they would pass...Anyway, the one "sorry" state of this nation is the emphasis on "infotainment." I love how, in the beginning of the book, Michael states that he was watching grown men audition for a sports quiz show asking each other little (useless) bits of sports trivia. I agree with Michael: That's a sad commentary on this society when people know the stats from 1943 of a baseball player yet they don't know who their representatives are. Michael, like Gore Vidal, touches raw nerves and I say if more people acted like him, we wouldn't be in the current mess we're in.
Rating: Summary: Truth hurts Review: Even if one-tenth of this book is based on truth, we as Americans are in a heap of [garbage]. Buy this book, read it slowly and absorb the message: We have the power to change what we don't like (e.g., the current politico disaster).
Rating: Summary: Read It With An Open Mind Review: I enjoyed this book very much, finding some parts to be disturbing and others to be very humorous. When reading this book you need to understand that since Michael likes to inject humour into the material, that not everything he says should be taken literally. The important thing is that you think about underlying points he is trying to make. As long as you are prepared to read this with an open mind, you will get a lot out of this book.
Rating: Summary: Stupid White Men Review: I do not agree with everything Michael says, but I give him credit for having the courage to say it. I encourage everyone with an interest in how this country is run to read it with an open mind. You should be prepared for serious topics to be mixed together with humourous ideas, but it is all trying to make a point. Whether you agree or disagree with his conclusions, as long as you think objectively about what he is trying to say you will get a lot out of this book.
Rating: Summary: Simply 'Stupid' would have been a more apt title. Review: I gave this book three stars simply for the entertainment value. I must admit, Mr. Moore does impart the Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation. Though I am not quite sure it is exactly what he had in mind. Take it from a middle of the road guy as far as politics are concerned, his views scare me. If you read between the lines you get the distinct impression that Mr. Moore does not like America very much, indeed hates the very founding institutions of this nation. I read this book in a single sitting, and several times, I had to pause to grapple with the issues. It was difficult due to incoherent digressions encountered on just about every page. It dawned on me that Mr. Moore may simply be confused or missed a dose of his ADD meds. I find it fascinating that Mr. Moore insists that the elections were in some way rigged, and Mr. Bush usurped the White House. In fact, this is the biggest fiction of our time. That may have been the most humorous irony. Mr. Moore accuses Mr. Bush and the republican party of running a fictitious government. He glibly states that we live in fictitious times. Then with this book adds his contribution to the fiction. I guess it stands to reason, believe me not a single page in his book does. Mr. Moore in one paragraph espouses the merit of a democratic society, and in the next alludes to democracy as prescribed by American rule of law is a sham. Mr. Moore and his ilk seem to only recognize an election as legal when a candidate of a particular party wins. Any other outcome must be fictitious and illegal. On a personal note this smacks a little of certain communist regimes. The wing nut that holds our democracy together, indeed separates us from the Fascists he accuses Mr. Bush and America at large of being, is the fact that regardless of political affiliation you can hold office. Democracy is useless if you do not allow people you disagree with to speak or hold power. I strongly disagree with Mr. Moore on just about every issue. That is my right just as much as Mr. Moore has the right to write such inaccurate rubbish. This book is pure fiction, and should be in the humor section under ironic satire. Strictly speaking, I liked the book and in general recommend it. The only thing to bear in mind is to take the author's comments with a grain of salt. After all, it is just fiction. Note: I recommend this book in spite of the fact that I disagree with Mr. Moore, because I believe that you have no right to disagree with a person unless you first hear what they have to say.
Rating: Summary: Very informative Review: If only every American would read this. I am just glad Michael Moore is out there and exposing the corruption. He is a grain of sand in a mountain but at least he is trying. Bowling for Columbine (the movie) is also excellent and disturbing.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: Stand out chapters for me were "A very American Coup" and "The peoples prayer". I enjoyed the book very much. Dont listen to people who say he is a "threat" to the U.S. On some issues I agree with him, and on some issues I dont. The book does present good research and strong arguments.
