Summary: More Moore
Review: Even if you don't agree with his politics, he does raise some interesting facts of both the Bush administration, and Clinton's. And all of it is done with his wicked sense of humor that cuts right to the bone. Anyone who saw and liked "Bowling for Columbine" or watched his acceptance speech on the Academy Awards will already be familiar with his irreverent attitude. The book is chock full of facts and figures of the calamities our leaders have been commiting without many of us knowing anything about it. Several chapters had me laughing out loud including, 'The End of Men' and 'The People's Prayer', which is a heavenly plea to smite our leaders with poverty, gay sons and daughters, handicapped children and rotting teeth without dental coverage.

Summary: Good book for true patriots
Review: Moore did himself a huge disservice when accteping his Oscar. On the show he came across as an overweight liberal nut. However, he is much much more rational and funny and his book proves it. The book is very good and I reccomend it. He is very smart and angry people like him are, whether liberal or conservative, required to keep the other half in check.

Summary: A stunning work of fiction!
Review: From WSJ ("Unmoored from Reality", 3/21/2003):

In print, too, Mr. Moore plays fast and loose with the facts. In his "Stupid White Men," his best-selling book, he blithely states that five- sixths of the U.S. defense budget in 2001 went toward the construction of a single type of plane and that two-thirds of the $190 million that President Bush raised in his 2000 campaign came from just over 700 individuals, a preposterous assertion given that the limit for individual contributions at the time was $1,000.

When CNN's Lou Dobbs asked Mr. Moore about his inaccuracies, he shrugged off the question. "You know, look, this is a book of political humor. So, I mean, I don't respond to that sort of stuff, you know," he said.

"Glaring inaccuracies?" Mr. Dobbs said.

"No, I don't. Why should I? How can there be inaccuracy in comedy?"

Summary: A good old fashioned rant against authority.
Review: Moore makes entertaining reading as he pulls down some of the sacred cows of American society. Much of his rhetoric is overblown and exaggerated (Pure Irish Blarney) but this makes it a good hearty laugh. He is especially funny on the subject of 'the unelected leader of the USA' Mr G.W. Bush.

But underlying his funny poke at American society lie some very hard truths that have been properly researched by Moore. Why do such a small number of media companies control the papers and TV news stations in the USA? How can you have free speech where you have only one mouthpiece?

Who is educating American Kids and to what goal? Why do Coke, McDonalds, Nike and Ford have free access to the classrooms?

Who has access to the Whitehouse? Why do so few Americans vote? Why are there only two political parties in the land of democracy? How have large corporations convinced ordinary americans to drink poisoned water so that their CEO's and CFO's can buy a second yacht and another corporate jet? What is happening to all that rubbish I separate religiously for recycling. Does it all end up in the same landfill? I intend to find out for myself!...

Summary: provocative but sometimes excessive
Review: I enjoyed Michael Moore's book as another perception of America, a country where I live temporarily and am enjoying immensely. From a literary point of view, I found the book a little too flippant and 'dumb'. I would have preferred a more intelligent approach (not incompatible with humor) which doesn't play down to the lowest common denominator. With regard to the content, this book confirms what I am experiencing first hand; that Big Business runs this country and the politicians are their puppets. The real myth in this country is that what is good for Business is good for the people. Big Business needs a counter-weight and politics doesn't provide it. I am stunned that women tolerate the treatment they get in this country. Over 140 countries in the world have paid maternity leave, the US isn't one of them. The philosophy of 'Survival of the Fittest' which is one of the fundamental cornerstones of American society is one of the reasons I will not be staying, enjoyable as my own life may be. I don't want a better view because I am standing on the weak.

Summary: It's a good starting point!
Review: Stupid White Men is an apparent collection of essays that have arisen from the painful reality of our nation. In its usual thought-provoking, social commentary style, Michael Moore embarks himself in a quest to unearth some of the buried, appalling facts about the corporate U.S government during recent years, including a more or less detailed description of the suspicious happenings during one of the most controversial points in American history, the two thousand presidential elections. Unfortunately, ad hoc to persuade the populace into his doozie ideas his arguments become one-sided, subjective and unverifiable. His writing also leaves much to desire. Nevertheless, he makes us think; and for that he succeeds.

Summary: Take With a Grain Of Salt...But Still Laugh...
Review: I don't know if there has been any one man, that isn't the President himself, who has been the focus of more controversy recently than Michael Moore. I give this book four stars because I cannot forgive the proven factual inaccuracies contained within this book. I only took one star off, because at it's base, pretty much everything in this book is true. For example: Moore is 100% correct when he says that racism still exists in America, only it is not as ostentatious as it was in the past. How do I know? Because I've seen it, and so have you. Read the chapter, and you know what I'm talking about. Also...everyone that attacks the "disgusting falsehoods" throughout the book assumes that Moore is serious about everything. In my opinion, Moore is a comedian first, political activist second. Many of the things Moore suggests are so insane and implausible that no man in his right mind could possibly suggest it. And Michael Moore is not insane. Remember in "Downsize This," the "How to Conduct the L.A. Memorial Riot" chapter? People...HE'S JOKING. I'm sure Moore wants change in the political scene, but many of the things he suggests are just in jest. What Moore does is no different than any other comedian. He just picks a subject that is a lot more real, and he attacks it with more vigor. In closing, it's true that many times he does not have his facts straight, but what Moore is saying at it's base is true. This holds for Bowling For Columbine, Downsize This, and this book, Stupid White Men. Buy it, have a good laugh, think about the basic statements of Moore's ideas, and don't worry about the details too much.

Summary: hey all you moore-haters, listen up...
Review: Don't worry. This isn't a mindless rant about how all of you are morons etc. I'm a staunch democrat, and I have a friend who is a hardcore conservative. He's done a lot fo reasearch on this book. Says its a bunch of lies, and that Moore himself is a 'pathological liar'. Too be honest, I haven't done any research, because even though I like this book for Moore's facts, that is only a small reason I like the book. You know what, I'll admit it, 'Slander' has endnotes, 'Stupid White Men' doesn't. However, Moore talks about getting active. I took a brief look at Coulter's book and it didn't seem like she cared about what anyone did after they read her book, except hate liberals (by the way, if I'm wrong about that, feel free to mark my review 'not helpful'). Moore does. While he doesn't have the quotes, he was the weblinks. He wants you, the reader, to take his message to heart and run for political office. Or donate money. Or sign a petition. The bottom line is, Micheal Moore tells the reader that if they don't like what's going, they can try to change it themselves or get up and give up. And there's nothing more American than that.

Summary: Be a real American - support this man's courage
Review: The America that I grew up believing in valued freedom of speech over censorship, and created a safe place for dissension. But today, even hard, documented facts are no longer regarded as facts but opinions up for dispute. God bless Michael Moore, he's got a lot of facts in here written in a funny way - funny in that you laugh because the truth is so horrendous that laughing sure beats crying! I cannot understand fellow Christians who are blinded by those currently in power whom Jesus would most likely call a "Pharisee" today. Hypocrisy is a human foible in any circumstance, but to use religion to gain voters or shareholder profits is far beyond the evils of politics. Even if you don't like what Michael Moore has to say, you should hear it - and read this book. Every single American should read it, and really think about it in your own heart and mind. I would much rather ignore what Michael Moore has to say than to acknowledge that he is right - something is horribly wrong in this country and no one really knows how to begin to fix it. But accepting the truth is a good start...

Summary: In Michael we trust
Review: There is so much that has already been said, so I want to keep it short and sweet. First and fore most, Michael Moore, like myself, is a patriot. We love this country and he refuses to stand on the sidelines and watch as this country is abused by the current political regime(its a another word for government, Jingoists, look it up)that alternates between brazen and insidious efforts to transform democracy into tyranny. It is possible to both love this country and disagree with it's leadership. That is one of THE CORNERSTONES OF DEMOCRACY. Whether or not his facts are 100% I don't care. This book puts to shame all of the jingoists, platitude shouting false patriots, and wanna be Caesers in this country. Go get Mike.
