Summary: Buy it and pass it on
Review: This was one of the best books I've read in a while. My fav. section was the opening about what went on during the Bush-Gore elections. I recommend this book for a rainy day when you have time to spare and soak up everything in this book. The only reason I gave this book 4 stars was because at time I thought Moore took things overboard, but I enjoyed his sarcasm.

Summary: A Prophet is never appreciated in his homeland
Review: Michael Moore's view of America is very much that his land, the land he loves, in now overran by a failing environment, and unelected Government monopolised by big business, that hides behind dubious 'beliefs' in its attempt to oppress working people, still has shameful race relations, has a failing education system which doesn't prepare kids for the real world, has a prison system which punishes the poor while rewarding corporate fraudsters, and has a 'Democrat' party which is no better than the Republicans. How much of this is true?

Much of it, but maybe not as severely as it's put here. The discussion of the electoral fraud only contains one side of the argument, as well as some shaky Maths - as he refers to 680 fraudulent forms, which, by the proportions of those (military) votes, 544 would be for the Republican, and so deducts these to proudce the 'true' results in Florida - but not the 136 Demoacrat votes this implies. Despite that, the evidence about the Supreme Court involvement and the limtied voting rights of blacks do convince me.

His analysis of leading politicians seems too left-leaning to me. He'd've done better by sticking to things like Condolezza Rice having an oil tanker named after her, Kenneth Lay's invovlement with Enron, Dick Cheney's history working for tax-dodging oil firm Haliburton, and Tommy Thompson's funding from Phillip Morris, rather than trying to bring his political and social views into it. On cases like abortion, there are two sides to the story, something he seems unwilling to acknowledge.

That said, anyone who supports the death penalty should read his chapter 'One Big Happy Prison' to see how wrong the whole system is. The Kerry Sanders take is especially terrifying, where a succesison of seemingly deliberate msitakes saw a harmless innocent man imprisoned for 2 years for a crime his namesake Robert Sanders committed. He ponders why corporate criminals who pollute the country or rip consumers off are not given the three-strikes-and-you're-in-jail-for-life rule. Overall, it seems like making the streets safe for middle-class types is more important than justice.

Race relations are a continuing theme throughout the book, and contain some of the most shocking statistics (that the pay gap between white and black is the same in percentage terms as it was in 1880), and some interesting questions, such as quoting apparently violent lyrics from Johnny Cash and Bruce Springsteen,a s well as more positive, inspirational moments form rappers such as Master P and Ice Cube, and asks why rap is always the criticised musical genre. The reference to the convicted Tiger Woods imitator ("Though Taylor looked nothing at all like Woods (but, hey, they all look alike, don't they?)") made me laugh loudly.

It's frightening to read about the excess of commercialisation in the US education system, and the effects this has on triggering the weight problems and poor education of the American people. That 2/5 of final year college students can't identify the 50-year period in which the Civil War occurred is amazing - but never mind, 99% know who Beavis and Butthead are, an that's what really matters! (whoops, I seem to have copied Michael's sarcastic style)

Some of these statistics have been stretched, and the man's reasoning skills appear flawed. He notes at one point that his family is very much biased towards female births, he also notes that his family tends to have children late, and elsewhere he states that parents who ahve chidlren younger are more likely to have boys. Yet he fails to make the logical connection here, and instead uses the fmelae bias in his family as evidence that men are become extinct, providing the msot stupid, useless and witless chapter imaginable.

The citing of Democrats as being as bad as Republicans is probably no longer true, post 9/11 and after some of Bush's extreme anti-Islam (sorry, anti-terror) moves, and again this comes back to Moore's own beliefs. he slates Republicans for endorsing pollution, theft and hatred, and slates Democrats for supporting churches, wanting to ban late-term abortions, and wanting to limit assistance to teenage parents to those who stay in school and at home. I think there's a big difference there.

All the same, this has to come as reccomended reading whatever your political persuations, just don't take some of it too seriously, and try to read more intellectual authors afterwards. it's very much aimed at Joe Public, and the style is suited for that. moore ought to awakena real political, social and moral conscience in his readers.

Summary: Dear Moore
Review: I thought Stupid White Men by Michael Moore was full of humor and kept my interest almost throughout the whole book. It's interesting to know one guy's opinion about how absolutly wrong the men that run our nation are. From their decisions to the outcome, nothing is done to actually improve our nation. The anecdotes and sarcasm makes this book one thats hard to put down. I also think that at times it got to the point where Moore was OVER criticizing EVERYTHING, and he really needs to back off some issues because they are important and he seems to make them out to be a joke. But, 85% of it was right on and fun to read. It's simple and easy , and I think everyone should enjoy Moore's book!

Summary: Republicrats -- or Demopublicans
Review: If I were to give out stars on how much fun I had reading it, I would give it 5.

If I were to give out stars for his addressing urgent social and economic issues that are not being met by the current administration, I'd give it a 5.

I'm not overly fond of our current administration, but I don't like "chop jobs" done on people. (I'd hate to think of what might happen to him if he wrote a work of this kind in countries where there is a REALLY oppressive regime.) For this I would only give it a 2.

But it's worthwhile reading. And who knows? Maybe some day a third party with some influence may surface! Whether Michael Moore will lead it remains to be seen.

Summary: thumbs up, and horray!!
Review: Michael Moore obviously dislikes the republican party, but regardless of what party you like. This is a fun must read!!

Moore has a clever way to whine, and keep you reading at the same time. This book does inspire you to take action, and make your voice heard. Highly recomended.

Summary: "Just because you read it, it doesn't make it true."
Review: That's something people often say, usually in regards to the newspapers. Newspaper editors have the odd, and powerful, position of being able to print whatever they like and have the majority of their readers read it and not even question it. Michael Moore, for some reason, has that same ability.

Look, I'm a liberal. I'm as liberal as you can get. But a lot of the things the man says in this book just aren't true. There are some good parts (like the letter to Bush), and yeah, he has an interesting sense of humor. As a humorous book, this is wonderful. However, many people are using it as a reference book, which it is absolutely not. As has been pointed out, many of his supposed facts are either taken out of context or are simply made up. Michael Moore doesn't always know what he's talking about, I hate to break that to you. Funny, he is. Noam Chomsky, he isn't.

Pick up a copy of the book and look through it. Feel free to enjoy it and laugh at his humor. Just do some double-checking before you start quoting him in political debates. Not everything he says is too credible.

Summary: Hilarious to the extreme
Review: After Scott Adams, this is the only guy till now who made me laugh aloud while reading a book.
On a more serious note - I partly agree with the folks who have given him a lone star rating. This book does present facts that might be twisted to bolster the author's point of view. It is definitely full to the brim with polemics. Maybe some of them will not stand upto verification. But I don't really care...the guy is just trying to ridicule stuff that people should actually be serious about. Plainly put - the book is simply making fun of infinite human stupidity.
To some of the readers the book might not present solid proof of what it says but the notes and sources cited at the end sufficed for me. If you don't like this guy's attitude try Noam Chomsky.

Nevertheless it is a good read - deserves a 5 star rating for this.

Summary: Moore uses his right to free speech...in glorious fashion.
Review: Michael Moore uses his right to free speech to try to wake up the nation as to what is going on. He uses wit and over the top situations to knock some sense into America...that a man who is not fit to lead a country is in office...and the man who would have saved it has been robbed of his rightful claim. Bravo Michael, the book is amazing and chock full of goodies that will wither make you laugh, cry or scream with blind anger!!!

Summary: One Angry White Man!
Review: This book was amazing! I was hooked from the first paragraph and finished it in one day. After I was finished with it, I lent it out to a few of my friends. I always wondered why Michael Moore was so upset, and after reading this book I know. Of course, as with any book of opinions, he does tend to selectively pick his facts at times (though at least he uses facts, unlike that maniac Ann Coulter...am I the only one who has the urge to give that chain-smoking banshee a smack?)...The bottom line is that this is a great and quick read, that will encourage you to become more aware of the goings on in our nation and form your own opinions. Go Moore, can't wait to see your new film Fahrenheit 911 !

Summary: Horriable
Review: This book digs up trash that is either untrue, or he has changed the original meaning of what the information was orignaly intended to mean. It is a horriable book, and I do not recommend it to anyone for its faulty base.
