Summary: Stupid White Men...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State...
Review: Not Moore's best effort. He was more factual and funny in his earlier works on film & television. I have no interest in the liberal/conservate conflict, so I find the bias in this book anti-intellectual. Playing loose with the facts will only please the ignorant. If you are that, you will love this book. I'm sorry to say this, but the only truly stupid white man in this book is the author. I hope he will do better work in the future. By the way, I am not white, and it should not matter anyway. I am a student of history, and this is no history book.

Summary: DON'T LISTEN TO THIS LUNATIC
Review: Michael Moore has undoubtedly attempted to dupe the American public once again by turning this country on a very good president...stop reading his stuff and expose him for the true liar he is...

Summary: I am one of the stupid white man who bought this book.
Review: I hope Mr. Moore enjoys whatever financial gain produced by this book so fulfilling another american dream (or whatever).
You see, it's not so funny a read from the exterior of the boundaries of the empire, he is probably very much worried by the fact Mr Bush is a not so neatly elected "president", we could'nt care less... Do you think if Mr. Gore was the Supreme Commander things would be much different?.
How naive... You see in "Old Europe" we saw Caligula's horse nominated as Consul or Proconsul long long time ago, and not the wiser...
We apreciated the fact some americans seem to develop a sense of humour different from "The Naked Gun" etc. (with the honorable exception of Mr Woody Allen slapstick is becoming gross&grossier exponientially...), BUT and it's a BIG BUT if you think you are funny dealing with the Palestinian or Northern Ireland Question... then YOU have a problem.
The book, as someone has already said, is a sorry intent of stretching to 300 pages a funny article. OK it has his moments, but really won't make history (nothing to do with fast bucks anyway).
After so much fuss I was dissapointed. As an average stupid white man i rate it three stars, if really stupid on the left paranoic politician side or if an afroamerican male with your vote cancelled by nonexistent felonies you can rate it four or five stars (mind, if you are able to laugh at yourself helps...), if a radical orthodox rabin (jew of course) or a protestant living in Northern Ireland I am sure you can rate it two or one stars (if you have a sense of humour left...)
Get the cash and be happy, we falled for it (not going to see "Bowling for Columbine" just in case...).

Summary: Great Book
Review: Michael Moore really makes sense of whats going on in this country. This is a well-written and well-documented book, aside from informing the public about whats really going on, he also makes this book fun to read. I highly recommend.

Summary: I agree, but...
Review: First of all, I have to say I totally agree with 99% of what Michael Moore says here. And, I probably trust a good percentage of his often un-referenced 'facts' and details. But, this book should be considered little more than entertainment. I enjoyed and trusted his rants about Bush stealing the election from Gore, which were the most convincing and detailed arguments he makes in the book. But, this book is far from productive...I don't think it makes anyone think any more than they had before. It doesn't convince anyone who wasn't with Moore to begin with. And, it certainly doesn't help many of the serious issues that are addressed in the book.

I thought 'The People's Prayer' was hilarious. But, I think much of the humor in this book (obviously not to Moore's fault) is probably much less funny than it would have been pre-911. Much of what Bush has done since 911 is much more serious (or at least not as funny) than even Moore could have predicted, although I do give him credit for already touching on some of the issues which have now become full blown post-911.

I do have to say that I haven't seen his movies, yet, and that he does quote sources at the end of the book. Many of the sources, though (as is often the case with liberal-slant books) are other 'liberal' or 'left' publications.

Read for entertainment, or inspiring rage only; not for a good dissection of contemporary issues and the Bush administration...

Summary: Not Mike's best
Review: I would have to say Downsize this is a much better book. In Stupid White Men (SWM) Mike starts out really strong with the first two chapters, but he keeps working his way left until he's left all sanity and reason behind. Overcompensating isn't going to help anyone, but when you make a career out of pointing out problems and offering no solutions it's difficult to avoid that pitfall.

Mike' humor also tends to fall rather flat in written form. In SWM his ranting, sarcastic style comes off more grating than humorous. His comedy really only works when he shoves a microphone in someone's face and lets them dig their own hole. A little editing and some poignant voice-over and you have yourself some entertaining and relevant material, but you'll find none of that in SWM obviously.

If you want to see Moore at his best pick up the Awful Truth DVD set. It's more expensive, but more entertaining and really more informative since video keeps Mike at least somewhat grounded in reality instead of just spouting random ideals.

Summary: Michael Moore Still a Lier
Review: Wow, Michael Moor does it again. He distorts the truth to fit his Extreme Leftist political Agenda. I implore you don't to buy this book...

Summary: Mike is the S.W.M
Review: The book begins with a rant and how he rants!!! His writing style is so irritating and idiotic you can feel your IQ drop down. Read it if you plan to lynch the author cos it would certainly put you in the mood.

Summary: A vitriolic pen.
Review: This wildly hilarious (Prayer to afflict the comfortable, A proposal for a merger of the Democrat and Republican parties), but damn serious book shoots with red bullets on the dominating force in the US: white males. And amidst those the principal targets are G.W. Bush and his rigged election, the members of the Bush junta (very revealing portraits), white politicians and corporate gangsters.
They are responsible for the disastrous state of the US education system, the staggering defence budget (the Pentagon plan to built fighter planes in one year is enough to pay the tuition of every college student in the US!). They don't give a damn about the environment and the coming climatic changes. Misogyny is their gospel.

Michael Moore gives also healthy comments on, or reasonable (but politically unachievable?) solutions for international conflicts (North Korea, Northern Ireland, the Palestine conflict).
This highly recommendable sarcastic book has the same high standard as the vitriolic book of Gore Vidal, or the sometimes too dogmatic pamphlets of Michael Parenti.

One small minus point: there is no Index.
Not to be missed.

Summary: This is one Must-Read book!
Review: I have to admit that I held this book in my hands with doubt for two or three times before I could finally make up my mind and buy it. Especially since September 11, 2001, it's literally raining books containing facts, assumptions and explanation attempts for and against the current US policy. Anyone who did not suspect something before must know by now that something's terribly wrong in this world. There is a number of great journalists and authors out there - such as Greg Palast, Peter Scholl Latour or Noam Chomsky - researching the facts and jotting them down. However, it always happens to me that I'm closing their books with a bad feeling in my guts and a considerate portion of anger and resignation on my mind. While they're all worth reading, they're also terribly depressing. They have to be.

And this is different with Michael Moore. While you virtually have to suffer reading most of the other books on this issue and have to make a break after every 10 pages just in order not to go insane, Moore writes easily, amusing, with an outstanding humour and biting cynicism. "Stupid White Men" is the right book for anyone who wants an entertaining read before going to sleep as well as for anyone looking for some basic insight into American policy (without lying awake for most of night). There are even a number of good laughs in it!

Books like this should be mandatory.
