Rating: Summary: I wish I could get my money back. Review: I could not get through this book. The fact that they did'nt want to publish it after 9/11 should of made Mr. Moore think. It is so anti-American and, in a twisted way racist, that I put it in the garbage. If it was possible I would demand my money back from Mr. Moore.
Rating: Summary: The ultimate rant, you'll enjoy it. Review: This book reads like one non stop rant. Its funny, charming and packed with a lot of good information. At times Moore seems too one sided and that might turn off a lot of conservatives but at the same time he raises a lot of great points about social and environmental issues that everyone should be aware off.
Rating: Summary: Satire At It's Best! Review: This is a brilliant piece of satire which highlights the foolishness of political correctness and the extreme left. Moore's method of purporting to support these views while showing them to be hypocritical and nonsensical is worthy of Jonathan Swift. His psuedo tabloid style - a "fact" followed by emotive hyperbole, had me laughing out loud.
Rating: Summary: Too much -non constructive- criticism Review: After having read the first few pages, I thought that Moore stood against Republicans. Then, it seemed that he stood against Democrats that are a bit conservative as well. Later on, it became obvious -despite being white himself- that the title of the book reveled his oposition to white America and how it keeps black people oppressed. But then he showed words of "advice" toward black people that felt like a mock toward them, more than a joke. He criticizes Republicans for their disdain toward conservation and the environment and then jumps on recycling as being pointless because it "never" actually occurs (apparently he once saw a recycling truck dump an entire load of recyclables in the dumpster)... Get the point? The whole book (well, maybe I should admit that I couldn't get through more than half of it -I don't have much of a stomach this type of book-) is about what he is against of, what he opposes, and he sure is against a lot of things! What doesn't seem clear is what he stands for. Hiding behind a language packed with sarcasm and "humor", and basing his points on personal experiences (or inventions, I'm almost inclined to assume), rather than quotable evidence (I couldn't find a single reliable source for any of his points in the book's pages), he delivers a message that seeks to undermine most of America's institutions, and while I can't blindly believe that all the groups and institutions he criticizes are transparent and clean, I find it hard to believe that... simply there's nothing worth believing in in "Stupid White America", which pretty much is what the bottom line of his book is. Why, you might wonder? Because I come from a country where, unfortunately, things are REALLY screwed up! So I learned to appreciate and respect the level of organization that institutions in the US have, in spite of all the criticism that they might deserve. Do you think that the Postal service in the US is bad? Try "accidental" delivery for a change, which is the norm in several other places. Do you think your tax money goes nowhere, in spite of the public libraries (though with ever more restricted schedules) and perennial improvements and expansion to the transport system in most cities? Try none of some of the most basic books available at a country's capital main branch for a Public Library or streets filled with holes where you need to steer your way with care, to ensure your car is not swallowed by one. My point is that, sometimes we take things for granted... and not until we loose them, we get to appreciate their real value. All in all, I don't think this book deserves more than three stars, if that. I didn't find it neither funny nor solid.
Rating: Summary: What many think but dare not say Review: Michael Moore has not only drawn lines in the sand, but never had any reservations about crossing them. He is credited to make millions realize gross wrongs going on in our country, sanctioned by many governement officials and big business. Moore takes on the NRA, Detroit (The Motor City) and other big business out to get bigger while stepping on (if not crushing) the working man and woman in America. With his low budget, but no less effective team of hand held camera men, Moore travels the country exposing a lot of shady dealings. His best remembered (and most controversial) moment was his recent (political) acceptance speech at The Oscars', taking a statuette for his Documentary "Bowling For Columbine". Seemingly taking over the torch for Ralph Nader, who more than 30 years ago exposed American cars as "unsafe at any speed", Michael Moore is stirring the pot in order for a greater audience to smell not only the poison, but also the rats. People either love him, or they hate him. That's the way it goes with anyone leaning a bit far to either side of the spectrum. I much prefer having Michael Moore over for dinner than Rush Limbaugh, just like more Americans would have enjoyed meeting Bill Clinton rather than Ken Starr. Go, Michael, go! You've got a lot to say yet, and I'm definitely one of the many who will keep listening.****
Rating: Summary: Okay Review: I am German....I was born there and I've lived there all my life. So maybe I am not the one you can trust when it comes to books about politics in the US. But trust me, this one is highly entertaining and funny, but it doesn't provide ANY helpful information...except that all Republicans and Democrats are corrupt. It seems as if there were two people in the US who are not corrupt and not bad - Moore himself and Ralph Nader (I guess less than 1% of all Europeans know Nader and I bet it's not that different in the US). Moore also could have titled this book "No matter what happened...blame it on the Republicans".
Rating: Summary: Brilliant, riveting... Review: ...Jawdropping, eye-opening, and fun to boot. If you want the real story, and not something that the right is spinning harder than a dimestore top, pick up this book.. I couldn't put it down (except to occasionally hurl it across the room out of sheer frustration at the state of our government).
Rating: Summary: Best book ever. Period. Review: Easily one of the best reads I've ever had. If you havnt picked this one up yet your missing out.
Rating: Summary: A politicians are the same!!! Review: This book should be required reading for everyone regardless of their age or country, because at the end of the day all politicians are the same and Michael Moore does a brilliant job of highlighting this.
Rating: Summary: brilliant. dont listen to the whiners. Review: there is a big campaign to discredit moore by those whose politics are shown as less than human by the most human of all characteristics: humour. dont be put off by those who would hoodwink you. just read it and decide for yourself. this book should get 10 stars.
