Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Stupid White Men Review: The way you interpret this book depends on your own opinion. Those who are more conservative hate it, and for those liberal among us, we mostly enjoy it. However, if you have not been initiated with the facts about the 2000 election, you clearly must be horrified. I think that it is absurd that people dismiss the entire book as folly, with Moore merely twisting information to the advantage of his opinions. This book is also a satire book, so while you may laugh at loud at the idea of setting up a free speech club at school, you can't help thinking about what he was saying after you've stopped reading. The book also features frequent caption boxes on the sides, giving "fun" facts. I happen to think that Moore is extremely well written and after researching all different opinions, his has convinced me. This book is not a book full of just rantings, as Fast Food Nation was. It has information to back up these rantings. I hope that you buy the book, and become more enlightened than you were. However, conservatives be warned, this book is not for you.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Truly Patriotic Book Review: This is a book written by a true patriot. By someone who believes in the greatness of his beloved nation and suffers by seeing its ideals trampled upon by successions of administrations who lie, by big business who sacrifice the miserable wage of its employees to realize profits of billions, and by the mockery of democracy the election has become - namely, that democracy is reduced to choosing between two parties, each of which represent interests that run contrary to the Bill of Rights and the teachings of Thomas Jefferson. It is thanks to people like Michael Moore that the United States keeps radiating hope and maintaining a good image in the whole world. To his name, I am happy to be able to add those of Gore Vidal, Noam Chomsky and Scott Ritter, among others. And to quote the Cuban leadership, which has correctly stated that, as long as there are people like that, the United States is not likely to become a fascist dictatorship like most European countries in the 30's and Latin America in the 60's and 70's, notwithstanding many top people in the U.S. who do their best to transform it that way. I can testify to this in my own European ignorance. I settled in the United States in 1970, greeted by the ugly smile of former President Nixon at Immigration. In 1974, Nixon had to resign, Attorney General Mitchell was in jail, and one year later Vietnam was finally free, also thanks to the enlightened examples of those great Americans who chose to desert an unjust, shameful war, and who still who still have not been honored as heroes. In spite of the fact, as I claim rightly or wrongly, that I am a sophisticated reader, I learned a lot from this book. By "sophisticated" I mean that, for example, if I read that the United States charges someone with terrorism, it is because it is perpetrating it (e.g., Nicaragua). If it blames a country for not respecting some agreements, it is because it has violated them (e.g., North Korea). If it quotes God (a sin according to one of the Ten Commandments, namely, the injunction forbidding the use of the Lord's Name in vain), the Bible and morality, it is because it is preparing some brutal crime against mankind (Afghanistan, Iraq). Yet I did not know of the dealings of the Bush family with the Nazis, with the Talibans, with Saddam, of George W.'s serious personal problems, and these are just examples. All described in a light (though deep), hilarious and very readable style. The first page of the book quotes a sentence by President Bush: "It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, and incumbency" (dated June 14, 2001, when he did not know a TV camera was rolling). Now, I would like to believe that this quote was intended not only for American citizens who should exercise some care in voting - and this, because the President of the United States is the President of the world, as the recent mass murders in Afghanistan and Iraq have shown. But because the lesson should also be learned by Europeans, who have a hard time getting rid of their own Stupid White Men like Tony Blair and Silvio Berlusconi. But unfortunately, both in the "old" and in the "new" Europe, we do not yet have someone like Michael Moore, who reminds us that there are people who still keep alive the ideals of the American Founding Fathers.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A Good Primer for an Important Topic Review: Michael Moore, as always, is witty and on target with this book, however this isn't the best book I've read on problems of the political right. If a reader is looking for a humorous book that shines light on these issues, I would direct them to Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them or Jim Hightower's Thieves in High Places. Both of these books are funny and less dated than Moore's book and both of them contain better arguments than Stupid White Men.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Stupid book itself.. Review: Before reading this book, I personally agreed with the view of the author - That's why the title sounded ingriguing to me at first. But reading this book was just annoying to me. His voice is too subjective, biased and extreme... so it lost its power to persuade people - even it drove me to the opposite direction. And also I think he is not a good writer; he needs to refine his writing skills, at least. I decided to stop reading this book in the middle 'cause I didn't want to waste my time any more. Although I re-sold my book back after that, I personally recommend you to save your money and time.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: You're enjoyment will depend on why you buy it... Review: This book makes lots of assumptions and critisims about pretty much everything that happened during and shortly after the 2000 election. It dates itself a bit what with the events of the day, but also serves to remind us of how outraged we SHOULD have been about the events in our country during that time period and how liitle we did about it. It makes me realize how powerless we have allowed ourselves to become in our own country. I didn't buy this book to substantiate any of my political views, I bought it because I think Michael Moore is funny and I wish there were more people who weren't afraid to say what they think right or wrong, whether it goes against the grain or not. This book delivers. Minus one star because many of the conclusions drawn are unsubstantiated, but otherwise very entertaining.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: The facts are simply too distorted Review: I would only give this book one star if it weren't for some of the comic relief that it offers. Unlike the nuts on the far right like Coulter and Savage who simply try to create irrational anger with their distortion of fact, Moore at least attempts to poke fun from his (far left) point of view. The problem in political discourse today is the lack reason for emotion. To update Mark Twain, today there are lies, damned lies, and spin. The spin is where things get dangerous, because people don't stick to the facts, they just distort and misrepresent them. ...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Silver Ladder Award Review: I want to announce to the world that Michael Moore has been bestowed the Highest Honor that women can give by being awarded the Silver Ladder Award for his courage in acknowledging the rightful place of women in society. His book, Stupid White Men, encapsulates all the reasons that led up to the attack on the U.S. on 9/11. If the Stupid White Men in the U.S. Government and CIA didn't do the things they have been doing for over 50 years...there would have not been a 9/11. So...take heed Earthlings. Wake Up. Stupid White Men have you corraled in the Fence of Fear. It is an imaginary fence....just walk through it to your freedom from the dictates of fear that are imposed upon you by the blast of propaganda daily from the U.S. media. Step outside your country and see that the U.S. is hated by many countries because of their long history of raping and pillaging your planet, installing dictators in third world countries, and not taking responsibility for the hundreds of thousands of lives taken because of their greed for resources and control. Michael Moore is commended for his courageous acts of kindness, caring and justice in a Government Gone Mad with control and breeding fear. This book is just as relevant after 9/11 if not more so. There is such a thing as learning from hindsight. The United States is continuing its imperialistic domination around the globe and its Citizens obviously have not learned to take back their control from a government that points the finger at poor third world countries while doing exactly what they are pointing fingers at. Weapons of Mass Destruction? The United States government is in the process Currently, like Now, of designing new atomic weapons for "use" in current wartime, while it wages war against Iraq for the possession of so-call weapons of mass destruction. "Methinks the U.S. protesteth too loud." Michael Moore is someone who does something about the world's problems, rather than just critiquing. He obviously got K-Mart to take bullets off their shelves possibly saving more children's lives. What have you reviewers done lately to improve the world?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Finally, someone who's got the [guts] to speak their mind! Review: Finally someone in the most influential industry in the world- the American Entertainment industry- has the [guts] to speak his mind about our American government, our failing school system, racism, prison system, & our foreign policy, to name a few. Other writers and scholars have already gone into great detail about the social ills and politics Moore is writing about, but Moore does so in a hilarious yet informative way. Moore never claimed to be an expert or accomplished scholar of politics. He is using after all, what we Americans are known for using and are quite proud of- it's called "Free Speech". This book is a testament to that principle. He is simply as an American doing his patriotic, yes patriotic, duty of actually caring about his nation so much as to make movies & to write a book from the viewpoint of a film maker and as an AMERICAN CITIZEN. And that indeed, is patriotic, considering there are many others in the American media who choose to focus exclusively on consumerism, sex & violence since it "sells better" & those American citizens who would rather consume and watch shows and films on sex & violence because it is more entertaining- so as not to shatter their bubble of isolation. However, if you doubt the credibility of what Moore is saying, or if it just seems too outrageous, you could try reading the works of accomplished scholar, expert & MIT professor, Noam Chomsky. Try "9-11" or "What Uncle Sam Really Wants"- if the spirit moves you. If you have doubts about the truth behind the presidential election of 2000, read Greg Palast's "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy". Or better yet, don't Moore's word for it- do your own damn research and write your OWN book! Contrary to Some Previous Reviews: 1) He DOES list his sources of information- all you have to do is turn to back of the book to a section called "Notes & Sources". Duh. 2) He has a WHOLE CHAPTER devoted to the environment called "Nice Planet, Nobody Home". One reason Moore no longer recycles is because it ends up in India- and Moore cites this info from "Dumping Pepsi's Plastic" by Ann Leonard 1994. 3)Throughout the book he does provide things that the reader can do to be proactive- such as running for office in your local town & ways to get specific measures on ballots. He has listed websites, and organizations to look up- should one take the initiative. His website does list alternative news sources as well. Michael Moore has accomplished something so few have been able to do: he has actually got the mass consensus of America talking about our politics and thinking about who we are in regards to rest of the world, especially the so-called "Third World". However, it is still too bad that politics has to be presented in an "entertaining" format for the American masses to take note & get talking on a grand scale. Thank you, thank you Michael Moore!! More, Michael, more! Finally, a man who knows his place in the world- that as second to WOMAN! (You'll just have to read the chapter called "The End of Men".) Dare.... to Take Responsibility.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Disappointing Review: Its too bad that Michael Moore has the privilege of living in the United States and has his free speech protected. In this society (which he seems to hate) he have to put up with his "un-American" statements, but we sure don't have to read them.
