Rating: Summary: Awesome - not predictable! Review: Savored every chapter - well written - couldn't put it down, but didn't want it to end either:)
Rating: Summary: Excellent Audio Book Review: The Audio Book version of this book is very entertaining as it uses a full cast - every character is voiced by a different actor - Anna, Sarah, Julia, Campbell, Brian - all fully fleshed out. So many reviews have discussed the plotline that I don't need to go over it again. Some people like the ending and some think it ruins the story.
Unfortunately, I was listening to the ending of this book while on my way to work and arrived in tears. If you think that it's sad reading, it's much more devastating hearing the last few chapters read aloud.
A touching book with a interesting concept and plot.
Recommended as an Audio Book.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful! Review: This is the first novel by Jodi Picoult that I have read. I picked it up because the title intrigued me ( I have three sisters) but almost put it back down after reading that the subject matter dealt with a child and illness, normally these kinds of stories disturb me. I'm so glad I didn't pass it up! It is fantastic!! I started it on a Thursday evening and finished it by Friday morning as I could not put it down. The novel tells the story of one child's battle with leukemia and the effects this struggle has on the other members of her family, most especially her younger sister who was conceived with the intent to provide the sick child with a perfectly matched donor. The story is told from the perspective of each family member and contains an ending that took me completely by surprise. This is easily one of the best books I have ever read. Ms. Picoult is a very fine writer and I look forward to reading more of her novels in the future!
Rating: Summary: A Story of our time Review: With a child having a rare form of leukemia, the parents conceive a younger daughter to be a donor for her sister. Through the years the younger daughter has undergone many hospitalizations and invasive procedures to get body parts for her sister. At 13, the younger girl learns that a kidney transplant is planned in order to save her sisters life. She decides to sue her parents for the rights to her own body. She hires a lawyer and proceeds with her case, despite the fact that she deeply loves her sister as well as her parents - and that her sister is becoming more and more ill by the day.
This is a story of our times, when medical procedures can create situations where there are no easy solutions. Here Picoult forces readers to think about the question: If you use one of your children to save the life of another, are you being a good mother ... or a very bad one.
