Summary: Wow! What fun reading!
Review: As a mom (named Becky, of course) who spends all of her time with children, this book is a fun, cute, romantic and very good way to spend my quiet time, which is very little. Becky's letters to her creditors are just hilarious, especially when she tries to use "I have found the Lord Jesus Christ" as the reason for not paying her VISA bill! I couldn't put this down, and looked forward to the times at night I could read it!

Summary: The Greatest Book
Review: I could not put down this book. I can totally identify with Rebecca and her tendency to itemize! This book had the perfect mixture of shopping, touching parts, humor, and romance. I wish there were more and more books just like this!

Summary: A Book I couldn't put down
Review: I have never felt the need to review a book until now. I want to get ahold of Sophie Kinsella and beg her to write more. I found "Confessions of a Shopaholic" to be absolutely hysterical. I found myself laughing aloud on the stairmaster at the gym and in a doctor's waiting room, oblivious to all the people around me.

I can relate to Becky's creative way of thinking so much, although I know when to stop spending before I get in trouble! I just thought she seemed like someone I would be friends with, so fun and carefree, yet sensitive and vulnerable.

I am recommending this book to all my girlfriends; it was one of the most entertaining novels I've read.

Summary: Hilarious, vivid and maybe even a cure for impulse spending?
Review: Then again, maybe not. The heroine of this book , Rebecca, reminded me, oddly enough, of Winnie the Pooh, if Pooh had been set loose in a store - and if Pooh had found shopping as delightful as consuming a large pot of honey. Rebecca approaches stores the way Pooh approached a tree full of honey, ignoring the "buzzing bees" of guilt in her mind and the financial pitfalls and consequences of buying the most expensive, luxurious items. She has a sheer delight, even an innocent, naive delight in the sounds and sensations of shopping malls and unique little stores and can rationalize her way through even the most frivolous purchases, managing to ignore the creditors and bank managers who hound her for payments and (literally) show up on her doorstep. The real irony in this tale is that Rebecca is a financial writer who actually understands much of the world she writes about. But, just like the perpetual dieter who gains weight while being able to recite the calorie count for every food out there, Rebecca has a hard time applying the financial wisdom she writes about. One of the funniest parts of this book is when she puts herself on a strict budget - and immediately buys the nicest notebook and other items to keep track of her(decreasing) finances. The book is far from predictable, although I found it to be a quick read, a very enjoyable one. I'm sure many a reader will recognize himself/herself in this book, especially those of us who do like to shop.

Summary: OK - but not great
Review: For the first quarter of this book, I kept thinking, "uh oh, I sure wasted my money on this". As one reviewer on Amazon.uk(giddily) put it - "it's all about the shopping". Well, it sure is. And I got sick of it really, really quickly. It's not that I couldn't relate - I was like Rebecca once, making ends just barely meet from credit card bill to credit card bill. The story of a chronic shopper, who needs some direction and purpose (and self-control) is not a bad premise for this type of light romantic comedy. But I found it very hard to have any kind of sympathy or empathy for Rebecca at first. The story did start to move along and become more interesting about half way. Luke is prime romantic lead material and Rebecca actually DOES something besides shop. The supporting characters are amusing and just right for this kind of book... In other words - the story had the makings of a good one, but falls a bit short. Perhaps this is the editor's fault, not the author's. At the end of the book, I wasn't totally disappointed, but I didn't love it. If you are interested in British "Chick Lit", you can do better. There's Jenny Colgan (Amanda's Wedding, Talking to Addison), Catherine Alliot, Christina Jones, Melissa Nathan,Robyn Sisman, and Fiona Walker. Having said all this - I think Ms Kinsella shows promise and I'd probably risk her next book.

Summary: Move over Bridget Jones!!
Review: What a hilarious book this is! All British literature and/or Bridget Jones fans will love Confessions of a Shopaholic--it meets every expectation.

Twenty-five-year-old Rebecca Bloomfield is in love ~~ with shopping! She has maxed credit cards and an incredibly overdrafted bank account. But, surprisingly, this does not stop her from frequenting shops and cafes during her lunch hour. Rebecca is aware of her problem, however, and tries to do better. Her schemes for cutting back, saving money and making more money are downright funny, inventive and quite honestly, desperate.

Confessions of a Shopaholic makes it's mark. One of the Top 10 best British novels I have ever read. Definitely a pick-me-up if not a confessional for others who suffer from Overshopping Syndrome. Will absolutely appease those who crave lighthearted, fun comedy with a message. Two dollar-signs up!

Summary: Hilarious! But 1 thing ...
Review: I finished this book last week and I absolutely love it. I could easily identify with Rebecca just from the ways she rationalized the enormous amount that she spent on sales (who can resist sales, really?). I like Rebecca's character because the only flaw in her character is she just doesn't have control when it comes to shopping; otherwise, she's a really good person (from the outrageous reasons that she gave to delay paying her bills ... for god sake, she can't even lie! she has to be a good person). Also I think the storyline is pretty good except for one thing: what're the chances of a SINGLE girl who's making entry-level salary and in debts (a few thousand pounds) has 2 of Britain's most avilable bachelors (with multimillions assets) have eyes on her at the same time?

Summary: Bloody great
Review: I hate to compare to Bridget Jones because I think this book was much better. Very fast moving and funny. I think there is a little of Rebecca in all of us and I could relate to several situations. The lighthearted story and amusing characters make this book very fun. Summer's coming...great for the beach!

Summary: Go Girl!!
Review: As soon as I saw the title of this book, I knew it was for me! This book is hilariously addictive! The only thing is that it is set in England, so references to stores and calculations of her finances in British Pounds didn't quite make as much of an impact - I would've been able to relate to her adventures just a tad bit more if she were shopping at Macy's, Bloomies and Sax! Other than that, I sincerely loved this story.

Summary: Frothy fun
Review: If you are looing for great literature, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a fun, read in one sitting and laugh out loud, then you have found it. This book was one of those "Ohmygod, this is totally about me" books. How many of us haven't gone to the shops on a particularly bad day--just to browse--and come out with bags of things we don't really need?" Becky is a fun, real, character, and her predicament is not all that different from that of many other 25 years olds. (Trust me, I know). I loved her fantasies about how to earn more money, and the end is very sweet. Plus, it gave me some ideas on how to avoid paying my credit card bills--who would have thought to date the check 2200? :) A great fun book, perfect for a day at the beach or a long plane trip.
