Summary: The Confessions of a Shopaholic had me addicted to the book!
Review: This book was great. I couldn't put it down. I am not a big reader. Actually...I probably read 2 books every year on my own terms, but when I read The Confessions of a Shopaholic, I wondered if there were any other books I could read like it. It was so realistic and funny too! If you are sick of stupid childish books and are ready to enter the world of adult literature, this is the book for you. It's got comedy and romance in one. My favorite! This is a great find.

Summary: Garbage, utter garbage
Review: I was hoping for a funny, well-written easy, breezy read. God, what a disappointment. This is a sub-Bridget Jones rip-off; appallingly written, dreadfully cliched and full of despicably shallow characters that no-one in their right mind would want to have anything to do with. The dialogue is stilted and hokey - does anyone really talk like this? The 'heroine' is incredibly stupid, shallow and actually quite spiteful, in a way. Perhaps, then, this book was written as an ironic nod to vaccuous morons everywhere. Alas, no: that would have been a far better book.

Please, I urge you, stick to Bridget Jones - lightweight in its own way, but at least readable, funny and warm. We can identify with Bridget - with Rebecca, all we want to happen to her is have a bankruptcy judge send her down to jail for a few years - that will stop her overspending pretty quick.

Do yourself a favor - avoid like the plague.

Summary: Must Read!
Review: What a wonderful and funny book. Rebecca's addiction for shopping and credit problems make mine pale in comparison! I enjoyed every page of this book and was sorry to see the story end. I look forward to more great works from Sophie Kinsella!

Summary: A great read!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book - I felt myself relating to the character and when reading this book, it felt like I was having a conversation with a good friend and hashing out our financial problems. A great read and has a little bit of everything that most women want: fashion, alot of humor and even an attractive guy, although I personally would have liked a bit more into the relationship of Rebecca and Luke - perhaps in the next novel? A rare gem of a book and I applaud the author for such a great story. Thank you Sophie for the laughs

Summary: What a bore...
Review: Ok, you can't help but like Rebecca Bloomwood's character, but did anyone start to get a little annoyed at her shallowness? Well, I did. As she shops, and shops, and shops some more...she she stresses out and gets nasty letters from the bank. Big deal...but this was going on for most of the book. Finally things start to happen and the story gets pretty good.

'Confessions of a Shopaholic' is a 'cutsie' little book that I couldn't wait to finish.

Summary: Priceless!
Review: Absolutely hilarious! I loved this book. I identified completely with the main character's attempts to rationalize completely irrational shopping sprees!

Summary: What a delightful, hilarious read!!
Review: I started it last night and stayed up till 3 a.m. to finish this book! I really enjoyed this book ~~ it was funny, lighthearted and cute! I laughed out loud in some places and found myself shaking my head in other places.

Rebecca is a girl who overdraws her bank account and maxes out her Visa card. I am not a big shopper (unless you call shopping for books a shopping spree ~~ then I am!) of clothes but it was funny just to hear her describe her clothes like she is posing for Vogue or Cosmo or even 17. Her justification for buying things are hilarious and the scene where she was trying to make curry made me laugh so hard! (I'm a cook and that scene just cracks me up because I've done the same thing she did!) Sophie took a character riddled with anxieties and insecurities and made her so likeable ~~ you can't help but laugh at some of her excuses. She has a vivid imagination which really carries the book through.

I can see why some of the critics didn't care for this book ~~ it does sound like something from a fashion magazine, but Sophie is a good, clean writer. I really enjoyed this book and would like to read more of hers. Her sense of humor is a lot like mine and it is a refreshing read! I recommend it for a light, easy reading and if you're looking for humor, this book has it all.

Summary: Shop till you drop, then shop some more!
Review: Move over Bridget Jones, Rebecca Bloomwood has arrived with Visa card in hand. Becky is a financial journalist who writes for a magazine that helps people manage their money. Unfortunately she is not very good at taking her own advice and that is where the laughs begin.

Becky is dramatic, flighty, and imaginative; the wheels never stop spinning in that head of hers. Her rationalizations will have you laughing out loud. Of course this is a never-ending source of trouble in her life, but it might just be her saving grace in the end. Her frivolous antics will bring her adventures that no one person could expect. This was a most enjoyable book and I can't imagine the person who wouldn't laugh at this character in action. Well worth the time. Kelsana 3/19/01

Summary: Couldn't put it down!
Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic is a delightful book; a real page-turner that I absolutely hated to put down. Rebecca Bloomwood, the main character, takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and adventures. At different moments throughout the book you laugh at Rebecca, you get mad at her, you find yourself saying "Don't do it!", you feel her shame and desperation, (especially if you've ever bought somethng you know you shouldn't have), and then you find yourself cheering her on. A truly wonderful way to spend a rainy (or sunny for that matter) afternoon.

Summary: My life exactly (I'm afraid to say)!
Review: After reading only the first page, I knew I'd found a great read. Brisk, funny, and, in my case, true to life. (Except for the last part...still working on that.) I highly recommend this book to anyone needing a pick me up after a hard day of impulse shopping.
