Rating: Summary: GIRL POWER! Review: Becky Bloomwood is what you would call a neighborhood,"it", girl. She lives in a fashionable area in London by all of the overly expensive brand-name stores. And yes, she definitely shops there, a little too much. She also has a romantic obstacle with one of the richest men in London named Luke Brandon. They have a...let's say interesting relationship. She works as a financial journalist which is ironic because she fails to acknowledge that she is in way over her head when it comes to her bank account. She buys whatever she wants, when she wants it no matter what. Of course, she is well equipped with excuses such as a broken leg, fever, or dead dog, the list is endless. When a financial story finally comes along that has to deal with her neighbors she is finally interested. Unfortunately it is Luke Brandon's company she has to deal with it. Becky is so determined though; she won't let anything stop her now. She will do whatever it takes to report the facts and get the justice that she wants. One of the main points in this book is facing your fears. Nobody takes Becky seriously and she is determined to make them. She sets goals for herself and works hard to achieve them. Becky gives it her all to turn her life around and be the best person she can be. There were many obstacles that Becky overcame in this book and became girl who knew what she wanted and exactly how to get there. I am not saying that this was easy for her, by no means was it, but she eventually achieved what she wanted. I feel that this book is a great read for teens and above. Sophie Kinsella is a great author and used strong verbs, interior monologue, and cut to the bone. These writers craft tools really make this book clear and exceptional. This is a must read for people who love to see the girl taking charge. GIRL POWER!
Rating: Summary: Confessions of a Shopaholic Review: Sophie Kinsella's 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' is truly a refreshing, entertaining and light-hearted read. The main character Rebecca (Becky) Bloomwood is a 25 year old financial journalist who is in debt because of her frivoulous spending habits. The way Becky gets herself into deeper debt and more trouble is what makes this book so funny. I found that I could not put the book down because I just HAD to see how she was going to get herself out of the sticky situations she managed to get herself in. At times I would get annoyed with some things that Becky did, but I just couldn't stay mad at her. She is like a zany best friend. Her thoughts and the way she plotted things out were so comical, I found myself literally laughing out loud. This book truly kept my interest throughout. The farther you get into the book, the crazier the circumstances and the louder the laughs. I definatly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fun and light read. Thumbs up to Ms. Kinsella!
Rating: Summary: Bridget Jones Diary Rip-off Review: This book follows the same formula as Bridget Jones Diary. However, the "Shopaholic" is nowhere near as endearing as Bridget Jones is. Rebecca, the "Shopaholic" is materialistic, shallow, irresponsible, and a liar. "Jerk" is probably the best word I can come up with right now to describe her. I gave it two stars because it's a fast-paced book but I cannot find anything else good to say about it. I bought the second installment--"Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" book which I will read--but only because I've already wasted my money on it.
Rating: Summary: Could not put it down!!! Review: I absolutely LOVED this novel. It's alot funnier than I expected it to be. I found myself laughing aloud to some of the quirky and desperate situations Becky Bloomwood dug herself into. The hilarity of this book goes beyond the quirky scenarios and predicaments that Becky manages to get herself into. What makes this novel so damn addictive and loveable is the leading star herself, Becky. Sophie Kinsella's writing style and creativity really demonstrates itself with the character development of Becky. Though she is off the wall, she is somehow quite believeable. Kinsella has the talent to create an intimacy between the characters and her readers. I fell in love with Becky from the very start; she became my phantom best friend as the novel progressed. Though i'm not an excessive shopper like Becky, I could definitely relate to the her fantasizing lapses out of reality. Confession: Becky Bloomwood is just as, if not more, loveable than Bridget Jones. GASP!
Rating: Summary: Confession is always great for the soul!!!! Review: If you are looking for great entertainment as well as a lot of laughs, ""Confessions Of A Shopaholic" is a must read. I had to put down the book many times because I had to take breaks just to laugh. I mean really laugh. The main character Rebecca Bloomwood just does not know when to stop spending and charging her credit cards. She also has the goofiest of stories to tell her crediter as well as her bosses and her potential interviewers. She is also very convincing that the creditors can't help but give her a slight repreive. Everyone has their limits when it comes to Rebecca of course. This story is set in London and the city is described very well. Rebecca lives in London and her family lives in a North part of England where she visits often. This book explains the details of Rebecca's life as well as her charging habits and stories of her going broke. The reader cannot help but like Rebecca and feel sorry for her as well even though she is very reckless and inspite of her scheming ways. I give a lot of credit to Sopjie Kinsella for her active imagination and a nice story line that put this book together. I will definitely read her other 'Shopaholic' books that she has out. I will say that this story is a true original and that I have not read a story like it. The book keeps the reader guessing and it is very hard to put down. It also moves very fast and it is great read for everyone. I hope to see more books by Sophie Kinsella as she sure knows how to entertain.

Rating: Summary: Add Half a Star to This... Review: This is one of those fun, quick reads that you need after reading really heavy books by Thomas Hardy. It's not the pinnacle of literary achievement; however, I don't believe it was trying to be. It's exactly what it should be--a fun diversion. Although I couldn't quite identify with Becky's spending habits, I thought they were hilarious. But the best thing of this book is that Becky does grow up--not leaps and bounds, but a couple realistic steps towards being a better person. I'm looking forward to reading the two follow-up books.
Rating: Summary: Confessions of ME!!!! Review: I bought this book because lately it seems that all the good books are coming from the other side of the world (England vs United States). Am I glad that I bought the book because it is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I think what I most like about the books are the letters from Becky's bank and creditors. I too was once chased by creditors and unfortunately they were not as sympathetic as the creditor's in Becky's life were. I laughed out loud when I read the excuses she would give them in order not to meet with them. Becky is a likeable character and what makes this book really work is the conversations she has in her head when she is about to buy something frivolous. I think most people that are reading this book can relate to those conversations where you try and convince yourself that you are doing the world a favor by buying an item that you must have. Needless to say, I went ahead and bought Sophie Kinsella's two other Shopaholic books and did not need to have a conversation with myself although my husband has me on a "strict" budget. Go ahead, read it.....you will enjoy it.....
Rating: Summary: LOVED it! Review: don't let the name of this book fool you. it ISN'T all about shopping. granted it is based around becky's incredible ability to spend $ she doesn't have and dig herself in a rather huge hole but it isn't entirely what the book is about. yes shopaholics every where will LOVE this book, but there are us frugal ppl who find it incredibly enjoyable as well. i enjoyed this book so much that i read it in 2 sittings and immideately picked up the second one in the series after i was done. i just couldn't wait to find out what becky was going to do next. it took me a few more sittings to finish the last one simply b/c i didn't want the series to end!
Rating: Summary: What a hoot! Even if some of it does hit close to home... Review: For me, the best things about Becky are the conversations she has with herself about whatever's foremost on her mind at any given moment, and the way her imagination runs away with her only to have reality tap her on the shoulder, sometimes after she's momentarily forgotten where the line is between the two. My best friend and I have laughed about sharing that common trait between us for years, and I'm going to make sure she reads this book - Becky's musings to herself sound a lot like some of the the emails we send each other! Becky's being a shopaholic is mostly a vehicle to introduce us to this character, who is, when we meet her, more than a little at sea about where she's going in life, and who shares with us her obsessions and neuroses about whatever's going on at the moment - her love life, her money, her bills, her career, her parents, her neighbors, her best friend. She also sometimes shares with us, between chapters, letters she's received from creditors, which made me flinch while I was laughing, having once been in similar shoes (mercifully a long time ago). I thoroughly enjoyed myself from cover to cover, and laughed out loud several times throughout this book. My highest praise is that I hated to see it end, even though the ending was a little bit pat and predictable. If you're like me and don't have a lot of time for pleasure reading, but miss it a lot, this is a good choice. It's a fast read and a lot of fun.
