Rating: Summary: IF YOU REALLY LIKE TO LAUGH, DON'T MISS THIS ONE! Review: Alright, let's see how many shop-a-holics we have out there! I once worked with a gentleman who could have given the character in this book, Rebecca Bloomwood, a run for her money. For all that he had a heart of gold, the man was a compulsive spender and an addict when it came to mail order catalogues. The fact he remained extremely financially secure is amazing. His office was filled with super deals, overflowing into mine - 100 pairs of earrings for $10.95, shoes in size 11 while he wore a size 9, telephones which made two tin cans and a string look state-of-the-art, tablecloths for picnic tables (he had no picnic table,)"flash gold jewellery" which meant you had to flash it by your eyes quickly before the gold turned to green. You name it, he had it. Had he taken his stash of goodies home to his wife, she would have packed his bags, and he would have been wearing all one hundred pairs of earrings through his nose! All of these collected treasures remained stashed in drawers and cabinets of his office, "just in case" his wife did a quick calculation of where his money was going. I finally left - alas, there was no room for me. It would have taken a bucketloader to clean out his loot when he retired. The same principle applies to Rebecca, in "Confessions of a Shopaholic." This spacey, airy, featherhead charges forward with a credit card like the running of the bulls! A bowl here, a sweater there - not that she needs these items, mind you; they are just there, and far be it for Rebecca to pass by a good deal...or a bad one. The word "save" is a foreign concept she has not begun to understand, nor does she see much need to learn about its mysteries. The book will give you a reason to laugh on every page. Don't miss "Confessions of a Shopaholic", it gives "Bridget Jones's Diary," a run for the money.
Rating: Summary: It'll Hit the Heart of a True Shopaholic! Review: I am the main character, Becky Bloomwood! The way she justifies all of her extravagant purchases.....I related. This book had some very humorous financial situations that many of us have found ourselves in. For those that shop, for those that browse, and for those that just want a quick read and a good laugh.....this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: A Little Too Realistic For Me! Review: I am a 20-something shopaholic just like Rebecca Bloomwood...although *maybe* not quite as bad! This book is so funny, and it makes you feel like there are people in this world who handle their finances worse than you. I know so many people (myself included) who shop when they're happy, shop when they're sad, shop when they are bored, or just simply have to buy something every day. This book made me take my mind off my own scary credit card debts for a a few hours and simply laugh with someone else's problems. Now I just need to figure out a way to either make more money myself or cut back - because dating a multi-millionare just doesn't seem to be in MY cards!
Rating: Summary: One of my Top 10 Review: This was a wonderful read! Rebecca Bloomwood is someone you can relate to and feel for. She is someone that you probably know and can really develop an attachment for. I only wish that it didn't have to end!! I can't wait for more work from this author.
Rating: Summary: Unimpressed Review: I bought this book because of the catchy, colorful cover and the idea that it would be a fun escape from my own little money troubles. However, I found the story utterly silly, the main character unbelievable and the writing uninteresting. The author goes over the top in nearly every situation she puts the character in, which makes the novel so unbelievable that it becomes distracting and absurd. ....
Rating: Summary: A book that is worth shopping for! Review: Becky Bloomwood is the least frugal financial journalist ever. She is living in piles of debt in a trendy section of London, and will find any excuse to buy something new. None of her plans to spend less or MMM (make more money) seem to work out. That is, until she becomes aquainted with Luke Brandon, an upper-class financial exec. I had the best time reading this novel! It is an incredibly fast read with great characters, and every page will make you laugh. This is the perfect book to read when you just want to be entertained. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: shop for this one, even if you're not a shopaholic! Review: Sophie Kinsella welcomes us to the mind of a real shopper ... the one who buys things she cannot afford, even things she doesn't actually need. The one who shops for Christmas in March, the one who deals with her stupendous bills with more shoppings! Here we cope with Rebecca Bloomwood's inner voice that leads her to grab a scarf, a weird wooden bowl, cardigans, kitchen set, etc. We enjoy the battle inside her soul as she's trying to live a Zen-like living, cutting down her fabulous expenses, making more money, and dating a multi-millionaire she doesn't fancy. We're drawn to engage with her mischievous ways of getting rid of her bills as well. Turning the page means turning to laugh louder. Maybe you will easily predict where the story will lead you, even the ending itself. But how Kinsella clearly explains the conscious mind of Rebecca Bloomwood is unpredictably amazing that it draws you back to yourself, dear Sale-goers! It's the kind of book which you'd love to recommend to your friends as a goodwill to make their day! In the name of fun and discounts, GRAB this book in the bookstores near you. (Don't mind using your credit cards ... and go for even the membership to gain more discounts!)
Rating: Summary: Fun book to put in your fabulous new beach tote! Review: This is a great beach read, or at least it would have been, if I'd been anywhere near a beach when I read it... Anyway -- funny, silly, entertaining and somewhat familiar (unfortunately) with respect to how I approached finances in my mid-20's. I did start to become annoyed with Rebecca's shallowness on several occasions, but there was something very Walter Mitty-ish about it -- no point in taking it too seriously, is there? And I can certainly relate to the part about how great new clothes make you feel (perhaps I shouldn't be admitting that...) Fast, fun read that made me laugh out loud in several places -- and at least Rebecca Bloomwood's not as obsessed with sex as Bridget Jones!
Rating: Summary: Move Over Helen Fielding Review: I can't count the number of times I laughed out loud reading this book, nor the number of times I said to myself "I know this person!" Just when I found myself in need of a book that tickles the funny bone, my book club buddies reccommended this truly delightful selection. The reader is drawn into Becky Bloomwood's world that for all appearances suggests a fiancial rollercoaster ride. I cheered for Becky as well as chastising her for her ineptitude in managing her money..this is a financial writer??? Not! Thank you Sophie Kinsella for a truly entertaining book.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! Review: I couldn't put this book down!! It's a quick, funny read!!
