Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud funny! Review: This book tops Bridget Jones. Rebecca takes justification of her spending to a new level. The best parts of the book are the letters she gets from the bank and credit card companies. Even if we don't shop like Rebecca what makes this book fun is that all of us can relate to this character on some level. I read this over a weekend and didn't want it to end. I want more from this author.
Rating: Summary: "Shopping should be a cardiovascular activity" Review: This book keeps you laughing and provides the reader with a character who is smart but has a problem with shopping. I enjoyed how the book takes a certin turn at the end which makes you want to keep reading!
Rating: Summary: We've All Been There Review: Well many of us have, and that is what makes this a fun and quick read. I know I used to have mail that went unopened because I didn't want to face the bitter truth inside! This is what the main character, Rebecca, goes through on a daily basis. Yeah, she is in major denial, but that's what your 20s are for - learning. Although I enjoyed the book, I only give it 3 stars because I was a bit let down by the ending. However, if you want a pleasant and funny beach-read, this is the perfect choice. However, after reading some of it, you may be possessed to hit the mall, instead!
Rating: Summary: I found myself! Review: If you are crazy about shopping? Or the majority of your clothes still have tags? This is a hilarious book written just for you. Sometimes, it cuts a little too close to home, but you empathize with her. I laughed out loud on many occasions.
Rating: Summary: Non stop laughter Review: This book was amazing and outrageously funny from beginning to end. I look forward to another one by Sophie Kinsella.
Rating: Summary: Almost worth being stuck at the airport... Review: Not really my kind of book this, but I won't get snobby about it. There are times when something light and fluffy is all your mind can take. And for those times, you can't do much better than this. It has the air of an extended magazine article, but thankfully, one that's very well done, very sharp, really quite appealing. I think it helps to be able to identify with the main character, so if you're one of those serious "my finances are all in order thank you" kind of people, you probably won't find this funny. But if you are occasionally, or often, overtaken by the desire to shop, and if you're a specialist in justifying it to yourself, you'll find it hilarious.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly enjoyable Review: I loved this book about a struggling journalist with a obsession for shopping. It was satisfying in every way a book should be. It's a great light summer weekend read. No deep underlying tones. No sexual promiscuity. (Well, not too much.) Just a simple humorous story guaranteed to make anyone feel better about their own shopping spurlges.
Rating: Summary: Oh, the shame! Poor girl ... but you will LAUGH. Review: Wonderful tale of lovable if pathetic single girl who needs to grow up. I totally related! Hated to see it end even though the end is great. I bought it because was looking for more Bridget Jones-type stuff. Now I think Sophie Kinsella is a better writer, frankly. I gave the book to my sister to read and she called me up and started reading it over the phone. I laughed as hard as I did the 1st time!
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed it Review: This book was a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe the other positive reviews here reflect my thoughts exactly. The only thing I'd like to add is that I could REALLY see this book made into a movie. For some reason I think Jennifer Aniston could play Rebecca Bloomwood very well (and Lisa Kudrow would make a great Su, too!) It's funny and heartbreaking (and oh, so familiar) to see Rebecca trying to "take control" and for all her efforts she only seems to fall deeper into the spiral of debt. Admit it, how many times have you, like Rebecca, believed that you've truly "done good" in not spending money, only to find out that the cappuccino and the bonus-buy makeup sale and the sandwich and muffin and newspaper and the clearance sale and ... and ... all those LITTLE THINGS have totally blown your budget? For all you "emotional shoppers" out there who daydream about how the purchase of a certain item will change your life, this book is for you. And you know who you are.... If you liked "Bridget Jones' Diary" and "Picture Perfect", then you will really like this book.
Rating: Summary: Predictable "Bridget Jones"-like story, with a twist Review: Becky Bloomwood is another Bridget Jones clone, except that Becky is addicted to shopping. She can't pass a store without lusting after what's inside, and usually buying something. The banks and creditors are all after her, and she is tossing their evermore-impatient letters and avoiding their phone calls. You just want to alternately shake her for being so stupid and feel sorry for her because you can see a bit of yourself in her, if you are a woman who loooves to shop. This book is a light, fun read and I enjoyed it. I just thought the ending was too predictable--Becky wraps all her problems up tidily and gets the guy, besides. Other than that, I recommend it for a weekend or beach trip read.
